It rains quite a bit up here but still go for the hike up to the Iao Needle lookout. It is quite a view when you get to the lookout as you can look back down at the parking lot as well as the river below. The weather does clear up for good photo opportunities as it took nearly an hour when we arrived there for it to stop and lighten up. It was worth the wait. An usual looking mountain that developed from the forces of nature eroding with a significant historical background to it.
There is a charge for the parking lot of $5.00 per car. Very peaceful place and great surrounding scenery of greenery in the area.

The Ioa Valley is a short drive from most of the island and easily worth the $5 per vehicle entrance fee. Hiking trails, while "closed" during our visit, allow visitors to spend as much time in the scenic park as they choose. Not necessarily a highlight of our trip, but given the relatively low time commitment and cost, definitely worth seeing.

We went here on our last day, looking for non-beach things to do before going to the airport. Really pretty park to wander around for an hour or two, esp for just $5 in parking. Btw, you can park right outside the gate for free.. The trails are short and paved for the most part, or you can climb down the rocks, and wade into the freshwater pools. The difference in the climate between here and the beach is amazing, and it's just not that far away. The views are awesome, the breeze is lovely and the smell of the plant life is amazing.

We were in Kahalui and then drove 5-10 minutes into this valley and it was like bam, we were in a totally different world. I live in British Columbia and see mountains every day....I know my mountains. This little valley and State Park were as beautiful in their own way as any I have seen.

It is a very easy "hike".....walk. Anyone of any age can enjoy the beauty of this park.
