It was absolutely beautiful. There are several areas where you can walk up some steps and get the beautiful views. It was worth the walk.

Great state park to visit; there is only a $5 parking fee.

On a beautiful day, it can be crowded, but visitors can make their stay as long or short as they like. The walk up to the Needle's viewpoint can be quick, but steep at parts for those less mobile.

You can detour down some garden/river pathways and find a nice place for a picnic.

The Iao Valley State Park was suggested to us by a Lahaina local, one of many who poo-poo'd the "waste of time" trip to Hana. So, if you want lush scenery boasted by the Road to Hana, but can't afford the day-long adventure, make a pit-stop at Iao Valley State Park!

This place is awesome, but a very small place to explore.
I think it is a must see, but was expecting more of an extensive exploration opportunity. Five dollars to park.

Great place for hikes, nature walks and overall enjoy beauty of Hawaii. No shopping here, just pure nature. $4 entry fee and bathrooms available.

Besides the breathtaking views of the mountain and the valley, make sure you bring a town with you and go down for a swim in the river. It's crystal clear and fresh, and not too cold either. It's not a full day activity, but allow a good 2 hours for the walk to the needle view point and then upstream a little. No fee, but $5 for parking.
