The Maui Ocean Center does a terrific job of displaying the local marine life. While it is small compared to most other aquariums that I've been to, I still had a great time visiting. They have quite a variety of fish in the large tank - including a spotted eagle ray, and a tiger shark. The only knock on the Maui Ocean Center is that their gift shop is a little overpriced, which I expected. You can find a lot of the same items (ones not branded with the MOC name) cheaper elsewhere, like the shopping center that's connected to it.

It's a small aquarium but expensive to get in. They charge more than many aquariums I've been in, of larger size, on the mainland.

Nevertheless, it was very enjoyable for the kids. 2 year old in particular like the turtle presentation, the sharks, and the walk through tunnel (though I've been in several tunnels that are longer like the one in San Francisco).

Pluses: The fish are really interesting and some aren't found elsewhere in other aquariums, the exhibits are well done, the staff is very knowlegeable and helpful, and young children will be thoroughly entertained. There's lots of room too for the real wee ones to run around. They have child friendly food available.

Minuses: Some of the exhibits are half-baked. To save on costs, for example, the marine mammal section uses dioramas and videos like a natural history museum. There are only two small main buildings and a couple of other outside pools. The exhibits are beautified so they aren't a perfect replica of the coral reefs currently in existence. The price.

We visited in July 2010. It is a smaller aquarium but we enjoyed ourselves for a couple of hours. It was nice to see and read about the local marine life Before we went snorkeling, so that we could identify what we saw! We had young children, teenagers and adults - all who enjoyed it here. There were also a lot of different fish that we hadn't seen in any other aquarium. There is also a story time for younger children, and there a staff memeber answering questions in the aquarium and talking about the different fish! It's definately worth a look (between $18-25).

This exhibit was a huge let down. I love going to museums of all kinds especially aquariums! This however was way over priced for the small exhibit. I am glad to hear others had a good time but for me there was not much to see and I would have rather spent that money on a snorkeling trip and seen those creatures in the wild. If you have children it might be more worth it, but if not I highly recommend spending your time enjoying the island and ocean!

My family and I had a great experience. We liked all the marine life that was on display. The kids loved the feeding time and the talk with the diver in the tank. One of their staff came and patiently explained some of the marine life to us personally. All staff members were friendly and helpful. We also loved the food at the cafeteria. Overall we enjoyed the day we spent at the Maui Ocean Center.
