Owner description: Set in the gentle hillsides of "Up-Country" Maui, Pukalani Country Club overlooks the Pacific Ocean and offers breath-taking panoranic views of the Valley Isle of Maui. The Pukalani Country Club is nestled at the 1,100 foot elevation level of world famous Mount Haleakala, an extinct volcano whose name in Hawaiian means "House of the Rising Sun" and is appropriately reflected as the golf course's logo. Pukalani's 18 holes were designed by golf course architect Bob Baldock who designed more than 69 public and private golf courses throughout the United States. The Pukalani Country Club's greenery covers nearly 160 acres. Built in 1980, the course is 6,962 yards long from the championship tees, plays to a par 72, and features 19 greens in its 18-hole layout! On hole #3, golfers may choose a tough iron shot across a ravine and into the wind for one green, or a challenging chip shot straight down to a well-trapped green several hundred feet below into the ravine. No other golf course in Hawaii can compare or offer you this unique setting and challenge of our hole #3. "Pukalani" which in Hawaiian means "Entrance to Heaven" certainly describes Pukalani Country Club!

This course in the upcountry region became our favorite course during our one month stay. It's called a country club, but very much a public course. Twilight rate starting at 2:30 is $31 which includes cart. This is half what most other twilight rates run. We usually finished about 16 holes before dark, once only 12 when we got a later start. Call a few days early and try to tee off as close to 2:30 as you can. Golf carts have to be returned by 6:15. Nice wide fairways, but still plenty of challenge for the average golfer. Great views of the isthmus with the ocean on both sides. Greens have essentially no break. Putt straight every time and you will be rewarded.

of all the golf courses I've played on the islands Pukalani country club is the best I've played. every hole is a challenge, every hole is scenic. I will definitely go back. I rate it as a 10.

My husband & I have been to Maui many times but have never played this course until this visit. I'm glad we played it but it's not number one on our list. I'm also glad we got a reduced twilight rate through GOLFNOW. Even though the course sits on a prime piece of real estate in upcountry Maui (1100 feet elevation at the base of Haleakala) that has lovely views of the valley, the mountains, and the ocean, it is a very non-descript course that can use work, not only for aesthetics but maintenance too.

The course is challenging with nice elevation changes. It is woman friendly, the layout and setting are beautiful, the staff is super friendly and accommodating. Range balls are not included in the price but they are reasonable - $2 for about 25 balls. Bring a "Skycaddie" or golf GPS device with you. There are several water stations on the course but we did not see a beverage cart.

All-in-all, the course is a good course to play.

Be sure to play Pukalani while in Maui. It is upcountry and has some breath taking views! The course is in very good shape. It s on the side of Haleakala so everything is either up hill or down hill. They ave a great twilight rate that is very reasonable!

We nearly passed this one up first time when we pulled into the parking lot and saw the burned-out restaurant and temporary buildings for the cafe and pro shop. They had a major fire in 2006 and haven't rebuilt on a large scale.

As it turns out, this course is great fun, the staff is really friendly and helpful. Moderately challenging, especially with a lot of wind, which is pretty common on Maui. Great views from nearly every tee.

While they have water available at a number of places on the course, a refreshment cart would be a welcome addition. At the same time, the fees are pretty reasonable by Maui standards, so I could do without the cart and keep the greens fees low.
