Quintessential Hawaiian setting in northern Maui. The eclectic "built-up-over-time" setting provides a great story and ambiance. We visited here with friends who live in Maui. Their previous experience at Mama's was excellent but due to the cost, they don't go frequently. If you only go to one restaurant during the time you are in Maui ... this should be it. The drinks are perfect and generous if not overly unique - we sampled mostly rum based drinks. The appetizers are world class. Don't miss Papa's three fish sashimi or the grilled octopus (very tender and braised before grilling... far exceeded expectations). The main plates were all delicious. The Mahi/Ahi curry, macadamia nut crusted, lobster stuffed Mahi, and the Traditional Hawaiian were all generous in taste, quantity and presentation. The fish is so fresh, The fisherman who caught it is credited in the menu each night.
The prices are high here, but I've eaten at many fantastic places inn NYC, Chicago and elsewhere that cost as much but were not always this good. Its worth it.
