92 of the 97 current reviews for this restaurant are for a totally different establishment, a restaurant that no longer exists, except in name. A banner above the door states, "New owner, new management new menu." We we're looking for a bakery, and since it was late afternoon, it is hard to know whether it still retails bakery goods, or whether it was too late in the day to get them.
when we first arrived at 4 p.m., the restaurant was closed, although the posted hours said it was open until 8 p.m. Returned at 5 p.m., and the restaurant reopened a few minutes later.

We haven't been to Moana for years - but the last few months, friends have been telling us that it's under new ownership, there's a new menu that's awesome.

We finally got there tonight, and 5-6:30, there's a great deal - a meal for $20 - you have choices for three things - salad/soup, entree, and dessert. I had the soup of the day, which was a vegetable soup, from fresh Maui veggies, light and tasty, then their signature cinnamon/tamarind ribs (I did kind of wish I could taste the tamarind more) which were falling of the bone - three ribs with a tasty Asian style coleslaw, and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. My husband ordered off the regular menu, had a salad, fresh Maui greens with a great vinaigrette, and then he had the steak - it was slices of steak, with a mushroomy, meaty sauce. I had their margarita made with Patron, it was fruity and very tasty. Dinner for two of us with 3 drinks was $60 - really reasonable.

Okay, if you're local and used to plate lunches with choke rice and huge servings, you'll be disappointed - it's not huge servings, but it's really just right! Can't wait to go back and try more on the menu!

It’s easy to miss out on a great meal at Moana because of the signage, which reads bakery and café. We ended up parking on Baldwin St. on a number of occasions, and each time, we walked past Moana because of the somewhat misleading sign. One day, my wife stopped at Sophie Grace and the artist, who was helping us, suggested Moana. As an aside, Sophie Grace is a great place to put together customized jewelry.

We tried Moana that night, and suffice it to say, we came back the very next day to check out the rest of the menu. The food is fusion share style with a variety of different size plates. As an appetizer, we tried the puff riced nori and the green papaya pickles, which were both excellent. We also tried the Poke/soba combination, which was tasty and had just the right amount of kick. “Mains” were the Korean osso bucco and the flat iron steak. The steak was tender- I just used chopsticks, and nicely accented by the black garlic butter. We finished one meal off with a superb Lilikoi cheesecake. It was not too sweet but rather pleasantly tart. Of particular note are the homemade fruit sodas (i.e shrubs) that really capture the aroma of fresh fruit.

Service was excellent. Kudos to Ryan, the assistant manager, who told us about the history of the place and the impending name and signage change. He also gave us great recommendations, and above all, made our dining experience very pleasant. We will definitely drop by, if not multiple times, during our next trip to Maui.

Everything was good. We stopped in after biking down Haleakala with a group of 12. Service was prompt and friendly with water and coffee appearing quickly and then switching to Maui time. The kitchen consistently puts out quality food, home fries are killer, hot and crispy. I have been coming here for years and it's always a pleasure. The house made kim chi was nice, not overly aggressive, perfect with breakfast. The croissant was crisp and buttery, bim bap was fresh, spicy and sizzling, paniola omelette rocked. Reasonable prices, great service and a cool vibe.

We went here for dinner and the food was excellent and reasonably well priced. The restaurant recently changed hands and the new owners brought in well trained chefs ... they are still a bit away from a great atmosphere and service, but the food and prices make it worthwhile.
