My husband and I decided to take our "babymoon" on Maui but we didn't want to stay in a resort area with thousands of other people. At 7 months pregnant, comfort and relaxation was key in choosing a place to stay. We chose Paia Inn because the location more exclusive feeling, romantic, and private. We were not disappointed!
The staff at the Paia Inn is fantastic. Carly, Nina, and Tina were phenomenal hostesses taking an interest in our comfort and happiness the entire week. They offered excellent advice on day trips, gave us a full tour of the entire property so we knew where everything was (beach chairs, etc) while we were there, and offered a friendly "hello" with a smile every time we saw them - you can tell that they really love what they do and that joy spreads to everyone around.
The rooms and common spaces at Paia Inn are tasteful, comfortable, and very well kept. The beds are very comfortable, linens are high end, bath products are spa quality and paraben free for you pregnant Mom's out there, and there are flat screen tv's in each room. We stayed in both a standard room and then were upgraded to a junior suite for our last two nights which was a lovely and unexpected gesture by the staff. Both rooms were fantastic. The standard room was cozy but comfortable and had a small refrigerator with mini-bar treats and drinks as well as room to put your own drinks and food, should you choose to keep some on hand. The junior suite has an additional sitting area with a microwave and dish ware as well as a small refrigerator.
We were able to use WiFi while we were there with no problem though if you prefer to travel laptop free, there is a MAC in the common area for checking email, printing boarding passes etc.
Breakfast is available consisting of fruit, muffins, scones, and pastries - if you require or prefer some protein, there are plenty of places on the surrounding blocks to get a cooked breakfast and there's an excellent grocery store as well with many vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic options.
The area around Paia Inn really DOES have everything one might need and the town is very safe, friendly, and just plain happy. There is a pharmacy, grocer, several cafe's, lunch, and dinner spots in the area (within walking distance) as well as lots of treats like gelato, cocktails, shaved ice, yoga, jewelry, gorgeous clothing, art galleries etc.
If you have a rental car, parking is free in the private hotel lot just around the corner from the building that houses the Inn. There are security camera's so you don't have to worry about car break ins.
Last and certainly not least, Paia Inn has private beach access across the lawn from their beach house which is also available for rental (highly recommend checking it out as an option). Though the beach itself is not private, it is very secluded and not busy at all. The sand is clean and the beach is very clear of rocks. There is a small rock pile to one side so there are plenty of little tide pools to view small fish, starfish, etc. - perfect for the kiddies to explore. We had a great time watching sea turtles swim in the surf... we couldn't believe that they come so close to the beach! It was a treat to see them.

With it's own secret path to the beach Paia Inn Hotel is a lovely treat. The suite we stayed in was roomy, with a super comfortable bed and AppleTV/Apple Alarm Clock (if you can't quite get away from it all!). It could have better noise insulation (we were worken by footsteps from the room upstairs) but it in no way impacted on our stay, the garden side is very peaceful. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Paia beach has some pretty heavy surf, which is worth noting. Swimming becomes quite adventurous at some times.

This is the first time I have written a review for any place i have stayed. We chose Paia as the last stop for groceries before the road to Hana. It is so much more than that! The Paia Inn is a great find! From the first smiling welcome(thanks, Karly!), you know you are in a special place....genuine friendly staff, a welcoming glass of wine, a lovely outdoor space for breakfast plus freely shared advice about the town's highlights. This town is full of hip young travelers, art galleries, surfers, and good eats....plenty to interest everyone. Next time, we will stay longer. And the Mana Grocery Store lived up to its reputation too.....

When planning our honeymoon we picked Paia Inn after the many rave reviews and it did live up to it! The staff went beyond our needs and treated us so wonderfully especially Tina and Carly who helped with restaurant choices and our road trip to Hana. Upon arriving we were upgraded to the One Bedroom Suite and TRUST me, we did not want leave at all!! The room was beyond what we expected and we had a lovely time on the private beach. The town people were very friendly even though it was a bit hippy-ish but for the hotel itself is what will make us want to return again! I highly recommend staying here even if it's just for a few days.

I've stayed in a lot of hotels and B&Bs and inns, so when I sat down to write about the Pa'ia Inn/Hotel, I had to think hard about how to describe the experience since it's unlike anything else.

Pa'ia is a small "hippie" town on the main road to Hana, just 4 miles from the main Maui airport. Pa'ia has two gas stations, some yoga/tattoo businesses and a few good restaurants. It's the anti-Wailea. I like that since Maui has changed over the past 30 years and I'm not sure it's a good thing.

If you look at the Pa'ia Inn on the surface, you see an old main street storefront with a yoga shop and gelato/sandwich place around the side, next to a gas station. The entrance is not even in front of the building, it's around the back. What???? Parking is in a tiny lot behind the building where cars double-park. Three other buildings make up the additional "rooms" of the Inn with one complete house available for the ultimate experience. A collections of building in a hippie town, why would anyone (other than hippies) care?

This is the point where worlds collide as multiple sensations attack your senses at once. If you have just arrived on the island, it's a bit jarring. Once you find the entrance and park your car, the real spirit of Aloha hits you hard. Walking into the entrance of the Inn, you pass through a large courtyard of shade trees and other people (guests?) relaxing, drinking beer or wine, eating fruit provided by the hotel. You look at them ("who are these people?") as they point you to the refreshments. You suddenly feel overdressed, over stressed and very out of place. About then, one of the hotel staff greet you in the most informal/friendly way. A lovely brunette girl/woman who you imagine will go surfing after work. A young man from Spain who happens to be the breakfast chef. Smiles, welcomes, good vibes.

It continues this way during your entire stay. After a few hours, a meal and some time to relax, you melt into the place. New people arrive, you feel a need to say "join us, relax". The staff rotates but the service is amazingly friendly. Restaurant recommendations? Path to the beach? Best places to buy swimwear? No problem!

We had just one night at the Pa'ia Inn since our condo wasn't ready until the next day, but I've got to say that next time I have to stay longer in Pa'ia. When the staff called me a few days later to follow up and ask for feedback, I felt like I was hearing from an old friend. I actually missed their friendly demeanor after a week of dealing with the crazy tourist strain on the west side of Maui.

Since this is a review, all I can say as a warning is that the rooms that face the main street in Pa'ia should be avoided if you are a medium-to-light sleeper. Truck traffic is heavy and the noise was disruptive to us. Otherwise, the room we had (#3) was comfy and well maintained. It wasn't a large room, but then you won't want to spend time in the room at all, you'll want to be on the beach or in the courtyard with new friends.

There are good things and less good (but definitely not bad) things to say about the Paia Inn To get the weak points over first: it's on a main road; we didn't find this a problem as far as noise is concerned, but f you're looking for delightful views from your room, this isn't the place. The 'Junior Suite' in which we stayed was oddly arranged, with a bedroom, a shower and loo in one room and a 'sitting room' with a big sofa and TV set, plus the washbasin, a fridge and a microwave. There was a distinct shortage of hanging space unless you're under two feet tall. But these minor drawbacks were thoroughly offset by the whole atmosphere of the hotel - very charming and helpful staff, an attractive little courtyard where breakfast was served (free continental breakfast or you could pay for a cooked one) and the secret path to an almost deserted, palm-fringed beach. Paia is a slightly flakey New Agey town, not like anywhere else we visited on Maui, very pleasant and laid back, with some good eating places. Would recommend both the town and the hotel.

We loved the Paia Inn. We loved the location, the Aloha spirit, and our special room. We stayed in Room 10 which has a patio and a kitchenette. We lived outside on our lounge chairs and it was just a short walk to the beautiful beach.

The hospitality is A+. The girls that work there really care and will do everything to make the best trip possible. My husband said that "they make it so you have to come back!"

If you are more earthy than fancy you will love the Paia location. If you like big, fancy, tourist hotels, this will not be your choice. If you want to enjoy the Aloha spirit this is the place to be.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The postcard perfection of Maui’s North Shore (white sand beaches, raging waterfalls, stylish cafes, and world-class surfers) just got even better with the opening of the Paia Inn. This beach town boutique inn seamlessly blends modern amenities with the historic character of its building. In a nod to the town’s plantation trade days, the building’s exterior has retained its charm with tin rooftops and rustic hues; yet, the interior mixes contemporary island furnishings with the chic lushness of the W Hotel. ... more   less
