Great place to watch the sunset and surfers. We were told the turtles like to sunbathe here, but we missed them. Ran into a local who taught us all about coconuts and opened one up for us to enjoy. Even made us a bamboo straw to drink with (we're such tourists) loved the experience!!

On Hana Hwy just past Mama's Fishhouse. Great place to watch surfers and wind surfers. View is spectacular. Take lots of pictures.

This beach is the real deal. The waves can be huge and dangerous. We just hung out and watched the surfers, windsurfers, and para-surfers. We saw someone surfing with someone on their shoulders. The next time we were there we got to watch the fire dept do an ocean rescue drill. That was really cool. They lifted someone out of the ocean with a helicopter. Very impressive. It can get crowded and hard to find parking. I took beautiful pictures of the waves crashing against the lava rock. We went back 3 times. We even drove all the way from Ka'anapali.

We heard that turtles come up onto the beach at Ho'okipa Beach Park at dusk. We've stopped at this beach before to watch the wind surfers and boarders. Had no clue that at the far right of the beach, the turtles slowly make there way on shore to rest for the night. We were there mid May 2014. The Hawai'i Wildlife Fund volunteers were there to explain to us what was going on. By the time we left, there was a total of 7 Green sea turtles resting on the beach (their bedroom).
What a sight watching these creatures make their way from the ocean onto the beach. The volunteers were very helpful explaining to us why the turtles beach themselves.
Well worth the stop. Just a short drive from Paia.

We stopped here twice on one day we loved it so much! We stopped late morning and spent an hour watching the surfers. When we stopped on the way back there were also windsurfers in the ocean.
Parking is really easy and free. You can either stop at the top and watch people below or make your way down the path and sit on the rocks.
The scenery is stunning, the waves are fabulous, it's a great atmosphere and you can take some brilliant pictures. I would highly recommend at least an hour here watching the action.
