Description: Often rated Best Italian restaurant in the State of Hawaii, Casanova is a staple of the lifestyle of Upcountry Maui since 1986. From early morning breakfast thru lunch and dinner and to late night clubbing and dancing on selected nights of the week, Casanova is the ritual destination of Maui residents and of visitors on their way back from Haleakala Crater. The Casanova experience is much more than its awards winning sumptuous authentic Italian cuisine. It's meeting and mingling with Maui folks in the very spot where they like to dine, meet and mingle. A must do when in Upcountry Maui.

“Cheats with no service”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

This restaurant pays commission to Polynesian adventure tour company to hijack its busloads of unsuspecting tourists. We got off the bus for lunch and the waitresses forced us to form a queue and made us walk into this restaurant. They offered us choice of drinks on a buffet table which implied it as complimentary- however it was charged for in the bill. The restaurant was overcrowded by the tour crowds-3 busloads- and our lunch arrived after 45 minutes, leaving us 15 minutes to eat so we couldn't see the town before our tour bus took off. Food was horrible, pricey and service was non existent. Despite the goof up in our service the waitress charged 20% service charge to the bill and insisted on being paid - she screamed and was just being racist- she didnt charge the 3 white ladies with me for this. There were other restaurants in the town which we could have gone to so they hijacked us. with 3 bus loads of people to be served all at once what can you expect but chaos?all in all worst experience of Maui and Hawaii and USA- never have been cheated in this cheap Italian manner- having travelled to Italy where cheating and frauding is common practice- but USA doesnt prepare you for this.DONT GO to THIS RESTAURANT and spoil your holiday mood.

“Tour bus tragedy”
Reviewed May 9, 2013 via mobile

We booked a tour bus trip to Haleakala and Iao Valley with a lunch stop in between.
There were only a few diners already in Casanova and about 42 from our bus.
We placed our orders then waited...
Many people got their orders however some were completely forgotten, mine was wrong and some had missing drinks etc.
Another busload arrived and the place collapsed into total chaos. Some of our group were finished and trying to pay (there were problems with the bills) as others were receiving their meals. They barely had time to eat before the bus departed.
A third busload were waiting to come and join the chaos as we left.
In short, the food was good but the service was poor and if you see a bus outside, keep driving.

We went to Casanova yesterday for the first time. We had a great table near the back with the A/C keeping us nice and cool. We shared a Caesar salad (ample for two) and loved the Linguine vongole and spaghetti carbonara. The biggest surprise was the price of the Chianti (during happy hour), $10.00 for a full litre. Compare that to the $35-45 prices over most of the island for a non-descript bottle. The service was also excellent and needless to say, we will return again soon. The only "complaint" was that we had to wait outside for the doors to open for dinner. They should start their happy hour earlier. We in essence went next door to the Mexican place (for happy hour) to await their 5 o'clock opening, which was not punctual.

“Just a good place to go and eat”
Reviewed April 24, 2013 via mobile

Spent all day on road to Hana. Boy were we tired, spent and dam hungry. We were dri invite through Makawao and there was a very busy, yet compelling place.
The service was excellent and we never needed to ask for more bread or water or anything. The food was excellent and I recommend the specials of the day. Somewhat expensive but hey, it's Maui.

“Makawao town's Casanova deserves several visits”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

Go for the food, go again for the great music performances. International name musicians are often right there up close and personal. ANY Sunday afternoon show will be excellent. Even an authentic Hawaiian hula impromptu one day (not of the glitz Tahitian stuff). This is for real aficionados, and casual visitors are made welcome. All kinds of hand made pizza and pastas. Incredible bargain drinks. It's all good.
