I stayed here for the weekend with my mom. We had a wonderful relaxing time. The yoga classes were great, the food was tasty and the atmosphere very relaxing. We also drove up to the top of Haleakala for sunrise from here, this a great location to stay to be able to do this easily.

Loved everything about Lumeria, gorgeous spotless rooms, yummy breakfast, helpful staff, great yoga, meticulous grounds. Will return next year. Super comfy bed, beautiful linens. Recommend a day in Paia - very laid little town with exceptional restaurants and delicious coconut ice cream too

What they don't tell you is that Lumeria is on the Windward (windy) side of the island and it has a completely different climate to the Leeward side. Along with the wind you get cloud and rain. The Southern and Western side of Maui is much drier and sunny, so if you are wanting beach and water activities then either drive for 30-40 minutes every morning or choose the Leeward side of the island to stay. The breeze gets up about midday on the Leeward side as well, but at least it's warm and sunny!
The yoga at Lumeria is great but the classes were held in the lobby during my stay as the yoga room was booked by a conference (I learned this on arrival), it was very cramped and not such a great experience.
The rooms facing inward to the main garden have zero privacy unless you pull the blinds down, which makes the room dark and a bit claustrophobic. The furniture is heavy, dark wood, which doesn't help matters. To me, more money should have been spent on the rooms rather than the lobby, which is a good showcase for the owner's talents, but the average guest would spend about 30 seconds passing through during their entire stay.
The breakfast is average - outsiders get charged $15 - mushy fruit, yogurt and over-sugared, store bought muesli with a selection of bread to toast. I have had way better breakfasts at cheap motels. Not very inspiring. Thinking that if breakfast was that bland then I was not going to pay for the special dinner as an extra, so I went to the local market in Pa'ia and found an amazing deli with a great selection of hot and cold healthy foods which I ate every night

Room Tip: Rooms around the central courtyard area have less privacy than those facing out.

Aloha,

Thank you for taking a few minutes to give us your feedback. As the new general manager of the Lumeria Maui, I am especially interested in hearing feedback from all our guests. We are new property and in the midst of expanding so during one of retreats, we do need to use the lobby. This seldom happens since most of our classes are held on the meditation lawn if the yoga studio/meeting room is unavailable. Guests who choose the Lumeria do so because we are located on the windward side, which is not as hot and humid as the coast. You visited during one of our very few windy/wet days we see during the winter.
The décor of the lobby compared to the rooms is intentional. We provide a dozen unique spaces from which our guests can chose to relax, from the simple hammocks in the pine grove, to the WOW inspiring lobby with its four rooms. In order to honor the Lumeria’s roots as a plantation, the rooms are done in a simpler plantation style that is conducive to a good night’s sleep.
Regarding breakfast, we are in the midst of making some changes. Since we use local, organic fruit (from our own trees and farm when possible) and we have learned it doesn’t belong in a bowl ‘fruit salad style’ as organic doesn’t hold up as long. We have just added steel cut oats, sliced fruit and hard boiled eggs and will continue to garner feedback from our guests. We understand the Lumeria is not a proper fit for everyone and we are striving to get the message across on our website and overall communication efforts that we are an educational and wellness retreat and not a hotel or bed and breakfast.

Mahalo,

Gary Sterman, General Manager

Maui is a perfect location for an upmarket, zen inspired health retreat. Lumeria is trying very hard to build a niche market and provide a sassy soul space alternative to the big brassy hotels. Ideally located above the hippy, organic town on Paia- Lumeria provides relaxed, calm, classy and laid back accomodation. A pool was under construction when we left. The evening meals were excellent, the breakfast became boring after a few days- but healthy never the less.
Fellow guests were very interesting to talk with around the fire in the main house before meals.
The design, furnishings and care to the property are first class! However, in Australia we are very spoilt for excellent, classy health retreats and Lumeria fell short of meeting our expectations in the area of customer service whilst on the property. I felt lost in the yoga class as a new comer and didn't return after leaving the first class. I had hoped to be encouraged to learn. The meditation room was disappointing- we would have appreciated some guided relaxation and meditation sessions. The highlights included the relaxing rooms, bed and furnishings, the gorgeous gardens and main house ambience, the friendly advice on what to see and do to experience Maui from the gardener- the delicious dinner shared with friends and fellow guests and finally, the enlightening book in the room on Soul Space interior design- Inspiring!!!

I experienced balance, inner peace, health, beauty and deeper sense of awareness while staying at Lumeria. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The decor has a high end, stylish, zen feel to it. It's a boutique hotel so it feels very exclusive and warm. My favorite moments at Lumeria was waking up early to have specially prepared juices, then on to a very spiritually and balancing yoga class with Skeeter followed by a group meditation with Claudio. The perfect way to begin a day on Maui. Next it's off to the beach and water sports galore! I will be back to Lumeria many more times! I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a hotel that specifically targets rest, wellness and rejuvenation in a beautifully decorated atmosphere with like minded people.

We recently spent 6 amazing days at the Lumeria Maui celebrating my son's wedding. It was a wonderful time filled with tranquility and fun. The staff was excellent and took such good care of us. Breakfast was yummy and healthy. The grounds provided places to stroll, to relax, to be alone, or with family and friends. The planned addition of a swimming pool will make the Lumeria Maui even more enjoyable. I highly recommend the Lumeria if you are looking for a peaceful, unplugged stay away from the traffic and congestion of every day life.

Room Tip: I preferred the rooms facing the lawn.

Lumeria is not your average hotel in Hawaii. Many people get there in retreats, but we went by ourselves and had a great experience. Just being there gives you a feeling of calmness. The architecture and design of the hotel and the gardens is beautiful.

We also enjoyed the free classes of Yoga and Qi Gong. I've been to many Yoga classes and this one was one of the best I have attended, it is a real, professional, experienced teacher. The Qi Gong class was taught by a substitute to the main teacher, and she was great, as I enjoyed the spirituality of the meditation narrative of Qi Gong.

Breakfast while limited it was perfectly reasonable. The granola with yogurt and fruits was a perfect way to start the day.

Note that the location is uphill from the coast. When we were there, in November, the temperature was about 5 degrees lower than at sea level.
