“We were not happy with our stay at all”
Reviewed January 5, 2006

We stayed 3 nights here. It was our 1st stay at a B&B & we were not sure what to expect.
It is a decent property & the house itself is quite historic. The central room is very nice. It is kept very clean.
Our problems:
The windows are not very air tight. Our last night it was very windy & cold. We had an extremely cold & damp draft blowing on us all night since the bed is located directly under the window.
We had 1 set of towels each that were not replaced. It is in higher altitude so they were damp & cold when we used them. Yuck.
No one on site in the 3 days. We did have a contact to call if we needed anything.
No fridge in room & not enough room in kitchen fridge to keep our stuff.
Ants in the kitchen so we couldn't keep our stuff there either.
Breakfast is served from 8:15Am to 9 AM. Pretty tight window. We were gone before then & did not want to hang around for it.
It was not a great stay for us. We never felt comfortable at all while there. We thought maybe we were not B&B people but then we stayed at the Emerald View Inn on Big Island & just loved it. I think this place is not for people who are more accustomed to hotels.

Aloha, Sometimes I look back through all old reviews to make sure I am in good standings, and to address or correct any issues a guest may have had.
I have repaired window drafts, but the original old windows are still in place. There are no beds under drafty windows anymore...
When I am off island for a few days, I do have a manager presence, every morning at breakfast, throughout the day, and in the evening and over night...wtih contact numbers posted.
I also have made sure all guests have two sets of towels each, even for short stays, there seems to be an overabundance of towels in rooms these days.
Sorry these folks did not enjoy their stay, always hope people can direct their needs to us at breakfast while they are here............

We had a very pleasant stay at the Hale Ho'okipa Inn. We stayed in the Rose Room, which was very comfortable and spacious. We could leave the windows open during the cool evenings and it was very quiet, with only the breezes in the trees, no noises from traffic/people. The Inn is very nicely appointed, and the owner Cherie was very pleasant and offered suggestions for dinner locations and activities. We would definitely stay here again!

I go on frequent business trips to Maui, for long (2-3 weeks) stays. I'm also a young woman who travels alone. This bed and breakfast is great because:

1. The hostess is very friendly and knowledgeable. If I need help finding a good restaurant, or something to do on my day off, I ask her for help. She has lived in Maui for many years, and knows the area very well.

2. It is a short trip to Haleakala! There are few places to stay that are this close to Haleakala, and the prices at this bed and breakfast are quite reasonable.

3. There are other guests around, and the breakfasts are quite enjoyable (all the guests eat breakfast together). For someone traveling alone, it is nice to be around other people when you eat. I don't feel lonely staying here. The breakfast is good as well-- lots of fresh fruits (some from her own yard!)!

4. It is a short walk into Makawao. There are lots of restaurants in this town, and it is nice to get out and walk around a bit. The view is great (you can see the ocean, and you can see Haleakala), and if it rains, you can see lots of rainbows!

I really enjoyed staying at this bed and breakfast, and I'll stay here again for my next trip!

This is a good, centrally located B&B at a good price, especially for Maui. One suprise is that The Ho-okipa is in more of a resedential area than the website might suggest. Great access to the Volcano and the funky town of Pia'a. 20 minutes to South Maui Beaches.

I have stayed at this beautiful Bed and Breakfast many times over the years and it has been a joy to see it grow and mature. The feeling is both cozy and historical. It is decorated with beautiful Hawaiian artifacts and you can almost feel the generations that once called this old farm house a home. Great place to stay on the road to Haleakula, the gateway to the sun!

We just returned from a delightful visit upcountry Maui and stayed at the Kipa cottage, part of the Halehokipa Bed and Breakfast. The cottage sleeps 4, with a private bedroom and full bath down and sleeping loft and 1/2 bath up. The is a view of the mountain and partial view of the ocean. The cottage is beautifully decorated and has everything you could need, claw foot tub, 2 TV's, one with DVD, stereo, lap top computer with internet access, barbeque, full kitchen, off steet parking and right next to the historic Hale Ho'okipa Bed and Breakfast.

Charming location, home-like non commerical atmosphere. Excellant value for a family or group traveling together. Owner knowledgeable, and was very good with the young teenagers traveling with the family. They thought she was pretty cool. Breakfast of bread, jams, ceral and many fruits was also good and healthy. It was not too hot when we visited (about 85 degrees) but a storm was skirting the area. The individual air conditioners in each room were greatly appreciated on a couple of humid nights. Owner also conducts horse rides and tours. It is about 1/2 mile from a small interesting town with some fanastic glass art. I appreciated the Internet cafee in town where I could check my E-mail
