This place is exactly as advertised. It is a great break from the hustle and bustle of more busy resort areas. Our family of four had a wonderful time. We liked the location between Makawao and Pa'ia. It is also a great location for traveling up to see the volcanic crater. If you plan on driving the Hanna highway yourself (take a bus!), this is a great spot to use as your base. When you travel down Baldwin Ave. to get here, keep an eye because this driveway is right in a curve in the road. We looked forward to the pool and hot tub at the end of each day.Aloha!

Would highly recommend this B&B. About 30 members of my family came for wedding. She was married under the giant tree and it was the perfect backdrop.

This quaint place was perfect for all ages. The grounds are beautiful, the pool is refreshing, and the accommodations are clean and cheerful. Even the geckos were tame enough for the kids to pet.

This is not a 5 star luxury hotel but it is a 5 star place to place to enjoy with family and friends.

Having stayed at the Banyan Tree twice in the past, we almost made the mistake of choosing a hotel for our third visit. What a mistake that would have been! If you like giant, you-could-be-anywhere properties, this is not for you. Banyan Tree is in our opinion a real, olde Hawaii style place to hang your hat for a couple days of privacy, atmosphere and the feel of the tropics as locals experience them. I've never let my husband see the "tourist" side of Maui, because that would totally spoil the feeling and ambience for him. Up Country Maui is an unsung jewell. You're not just near the Haleakala, but also Jaws, various fishbowls (where you probably won't see anyone else) in the Makenna coast, Makawao town, great blues, country, jazz etc. concerts at Casanova's on Sundays, not to mention meeting local artisans. Love it!

After reading nearly every review on TripAdvisor I was sold. I was adding on to my vacation and wanted to experience the contrast between the high end toursit resorts and a more local establishment. The Banyon Tree has a beautiful setting, the lush garden and trees allows you to slow down from the normal "rush - rush" tourist pace. The room was simple, clean, and a nice place to sleep after a busy day out exploring. Speaking of sleeping, the comfort of the beds was superb! The cool breeze blowing through the room enhanced their comfort and made sleeping a highlight of the place. Another great benefit of the Banyon Tree is meeting your neighbors. Everyone is so pleasant and helpful. It was a delight making friends from Canada and Japan. If you want a simple, quiet, enjoyable retreat the Banyon Tree is the place to go!

I stayed here recently on a short getaway trip to Maui. I couldn't have found the more perfect place. The location is secluded and very quiet - and not terribly far from anywhere on the island - Hana, West Maui, Kihei/Wailea - all very accessible - and away from the tourist crowd. Marty is a great host and respects your privacy and considers your cottage to be yours while you are there. While I came by myself, I would definitely come back with the whole family - its a terrific value in Maui. And the bed was so comfortable - i really had a great time at Banyan B&B.

This was our first trip to Maui. Out of the 6 places we stayed over a 3 week period, this was our favorite! The place was very comfortable, relaxing and clean! The well kept grounds were beautiful and Marty the owner was so helpful and such a great guy! The view was great. Had a pool and hotub. Within walking distance to Makawao and centrally located to the sights. The prices were very reasonable for what you got compared to the other places we stayed for around the same price. We will stay here again if we ever come back to Maui!

Room Tip: I checked out several of the rooms and they were all great. Depends on what you need. Marty is very...

We decided to ease into our first visit to Maui by starting "Up Country" at the Banyan - a small complex of cottages in a lovely setting that used to be plantation managers' housing. It was very peaceful and relaxing, a nice small pool and hot tub, beautiful trees and plantings. We stayed in Sue's Cottage which was fine for two couples, adequate kitchenette and breakfast offerings brought to the door, enough to get everyone going for the day. While you seem away from it all up here, it is really quite convenient to drive to Paia, Makawao, or the coast. The host, Marty, is friendly and helpful.
Wish we could have stayed longer!

Room Tip: Sue's Cottage is handicapped accessible (but not noticeably so) if that is an important factor f...
