I had read the reviews posted before our trip-I was worried.
I feel that this hotel and the staff were great. Our room was on the
golf course-oceanview side on the 8th floor. We had a perfect view
and it was very peaceful and quiet. We used the pool near the
cottages and it was adequate. Don't miss talking to the macaw named Kona that lives in a cage in the garden gazebo near the cottages during the day. He will repeat "Aloha".

There were many good places to dine. In Lahaina there is a place
called Mixed Grill that looks like a hole in the wall, but their prices are very reasonable and the food and drinks are excellent. We did most of our shopping in Lahaina on Front Street as there were many shoppes.
We found the travel agent located in the lobby of the hotel very informative.
We took an airplane tour of the volcano's on the Big Island. It was a 3 hour trip and to see the active volcano and lava was just breathtaking.
This was one of the most beautiful and relaxing trips we have taken.

This was our first visit to Hawaii and what a great experience. We were a bit apprehensive after reading some of the reviews which we found to be somewhat exagerated after getting there. Our stay at the Royal Lahaina was great! I will say "don't stay in the Hale building"! "It's old"! We were on the 12th floor of the tower...and what view! The view from our room and balcony was spectacular! The staff was very friendly and most kind and helpful. The breakfast buffet was delicious and the atmosphere most relaxing. The grounds were very well maintained and the beach awesome. We are already planning another trip in the future and will stay there again. Thanks to all at the Royal Lahaina for making our trip a wonderful and memorable experience.

Must say, Royal Lahaina Hotel is the perfect place for the cockroaches. Our first room had a toilet that couldn't be flushed - had to replace the ancient mechanism -. a shower that dribbled and was tiny, bamboo bedframe that was disintegrating on the floor, filthy carpet, ocean view of hedges and on the dreary side. First morning found 2 live cockroaches and reported to management who could have cared less but promised to spray the room. They did nothing and next morning there were more cockroaches.

So we had to pack up and move to the tower, 12th floor. Great improvement except for the never-ending moaning and whistling of the ferocious wind which also made the glass door rattle.

Forgetting all that, what we couldn't understand was why there were no facilities to sit on the beach other than either a towel or renting a cabana for $35 per day!!! Staff told us umbrellas could not be used on the beach because of the wind. Simply not true. We went to other hotels in the area and saw chairs, chaisses AND umbrellas. This beach is lovely unless you have to have some shade then you're out of luck. Why would anyone fly for hours to get to Hawaii, rent a car, pay for a resort hotel room and then have to get in your car everyday to find a beach with some shade.

Dining room - worst buffet - muffins fall apart in your hand , waffles and pancakes like rubber tires and unpleasant staff who are slow to show up while acting like they"re doing you a favor. Only place we found on our week's vacation where staff failed to make you feel welcome. Lahaina has great restaurants with charming wait staff and great food. Royal Lahaina should send its cooks (they are not chefs) to cooking school and the staff to charm school.

We arrived home last night from Maui and I wanted to write this while it is fresh in my mind. There's lots of good things going on in Maui. This hotel isn't one of them.

I did a package deal w/hotel and flight. The pictures that they showed online did not give you an "accurate" ideal on the hotel. The ONLY thing that was good about my hotel room was that i had an ocean view. The first night i was there, my shower wouldn't drain. The appearance of the room was very poor and definitely needed an upgrade. From the wallpaper, the carpet and DEFINITELY the bathroom. The bathroom was just HORRIBLE! Thank goodness I was only there 2nights, because there is no way i would have stayed for an entire week. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone! Unfortunately this was my first visit to Maui and the hotel did not give a good impression.

My husband and I just returned from Maui on our honeymoon. We stayed at the Royal Lahaina Resort and were overall very pleased with it. The view was incredible and I loved the area. The room was your standard hotel-type room, but it actually pretty nice. The cleaning staff was very nice.

The first night we got there on 5/3, we were exhausted as we had been traveling all day and there was a 5 hour time difference, so we went to bed early. Around 1am, we were awoken by the blaring fire alarms. We were on the 7th floor and the entire 12 floor hotel had to evaculate down by the pool. My husband and I found it a bit humerous just b/c it was a story to tell, but there were many older people who did NOT find it funny & were very angry. I still don't know if there was an actual fire or not, but I guess it's better safe than sorry.

Otherwise, we enjoyed our trip tremendously. We actually met another couple & drive the Road to Hana with them & made a day of it. The grounds of the Royal Lahaina seemed well kept & well maintianed. Very beautiful.

I'd stay there again & recommend it to a friend!

We stayed at the Hale wing from May 5th till 9th - room was basic, but clean and comfortable. Our room overlooked the Luau - they have it each night except Saturday. Luau ends around 8.30pm and the last 15 minutes are drums, so don't try to fall asleep. But again, if you are out - it won't bother you.
Bathroom - small, little bit scary looking, but functional.
Main thing nobody tells you - the bathroom fan runs 24x7, and you can't turn it off, so if you are a light sleeper - you'll have problems. It didn't bother me much, but my husband was waking up 3-4 times per night. When we complained, they said there is nothing they can do - all rooms are like that (at least at this building).
When we checked in, they have offered "paradise" package for $16 a night: parking, coffee/tea, local and 800 calls, 2 mai tais, safe. Parking w/o this package is $10 per day.
Beach is great, if you walk 200 yards north - there is a coral reef and great snorkeling, we have spotted 2 turtles :-).
Would we stay at this hotel again? If they fix the bathroom fan - probably yes.

We just got back from our 3rd trip to the islands and had a terrible time at the Royal Lahaina. When I booked the trip originally I was told that they had a food voucher you could purchase upon arrival. It would give you a few dinners at the hotel along with daily breakfast and a few lunches. When we arrived we found out that the voucher service had been discontinued. That was a major reason why we picked this particular hotel. Anyways, after that we were told that we would receive an upgraded room. The room we received was right next to several rooms being renovated. Our room smelled like paint fumes at various times during the day. When you went out on the balcony, you got a view of the torn up area of the hotel and cigarette butts, old beer cans and workers painting. Also our room looked like it was about to fall apart. The carpet looked about 30 years old. The furniture was also fairly distressed. Our closet doors were about to fall apart. When you took a shower the water ran hot and cold. When it came time to park your car at night, we found it hard to find a spot. They have several Luau's and they would take up most of the hotel parking leaving you to find spots very far from the hotel entrance. Also the pools are extremely small and not very inviting. We are not the kind of people to complain and due to the fact that we purchased the accomodations on a package deal we were stuck staying there. If we could have paid more to stay somewhere else at the time of arrival we would have. We will never stay at this hotel again.
