This hotel is in its own category. It is sandwiched between resorts and timeshares. We have been coming here for 20 years. We love it because of its location and it feels like what Maui used to be. Unlike all the other resorts nearby, you are not part of a sea of people. You can grab a towel and a chair and read a book without being bothered by the 1,000 conversations around. The tower has been redone and has a great view, which is like every other resort. However, the bungalows are timeless. The also have been redone. The digs are not fancy like all the others resorts, however you can certainly feel like you are on a vacation. Most of the employees have stayed on, unlike all the other resorts where people and employees move on through. If you need fancy, sneak to any of the nearby resorts, but come be on vacation at the hotel.

Have stayed at RL several times. It's not as opulent or modern as many of the neighboring resorts, but it represents a great value in the 'pricy' Kaanapali beach area. RL has an 'old world' charm, the staff is very helpful and friendly, the grounds are well maintained and the white sand beach is fantastic and not too crowded. You are close to Black Rock (to the south) and a reef lies just to the north. Great snorkeling at both spots. The guest rooms in the tower have been updated and refurbished and are very nice. Many of the cottages have not been updated, and are dated and in poor condition. It's a work in progress, but you are definetly better off in the updated tower. The restaurant is good, but there are plenty of fine dining options close to RL. There is a free and convienent trolley to Whalers Village with connection to Lahaina. Overall a really nice resort with a staff that makes you feel at home, reminescent of a classy, traditional old world Hawaiian resort that celebrates the culture and traditions of the islands - not the 'Disneyesque' resorts of
today.

It's only our first day on the property, but we are in love with this place. Just perfect, friendly staff, amazing service and exquisite facility. Complimentary trolley service, and very affordable shuttle service to nearby towns. Everything you need is on site.
One "constructive comment" regarding the room, the mirror set up in the bathroom facility is a bit awkward.
The staff here has been more than accommodating and strives to meet all your needs. The breakfast buffet is unbelievable with delicious hot selections, as well as several varieties of fruit and juices. We are more than pleased with the Royal Lahaina!

Aloha. Thank you very much for the positive review. I see that you are at the hotel currently so I will contact you directly regarding the mirror. There is a little design trick and easy fix, that it sounds as if you may not have discovered yet. The mirrors are actually on a hinge, rather than mounted to the wall, so they swing open when in use. Also, our Housekeeping Dept. has a supply of lighted make-up mirrors available for guests who desire them. Mahalo.

My wonderful experience at the Royal Lahaina started the moment we walked into the lobby. My husband and I had a long flight from Dallas and were just looking to get into our room and sleep. Stephanie at the front desk hooked us up with an amazing upgraded room that was one of the best rooms I've ever stayed in. The views were spectacular! Room 1131 had three balconies, two with ocean views and one overlooking the golf coarse.
The breakfast buffet was large and tasty, the evening entertainment was great, and the service was quick. My only gripe was that the pool bar didn't open until noon and couldn't make blended cocktails. But the bar at the restaurant was more than happy to make us drinks for the beach.
A wonderful experience overall and the only hotel I will stay at in Lahaina.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view

Connection to Internet was very difficult in rooms, guest were in the lobby trying to get onto Internet in all 7 day stay. Parking cost $10.00 a day or $15.00 for valet parking. It was very hard to get parking, and when we did it was far away with no lights for safety for guest walking back. Breakfast was average, rooms very clean and tidy. No kettle to make a cup of tea. Staff friendly, but could not help with anything we requested. Also too far out.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't get the cottages, really old and smelly

Aloha. Thank you for the feedback on your recent stay. I will follow up directly with you to review the issues you have mentioned. I can advise that each of our guestrooms is equipped with a coffee/tea maker. Our location is within the resort area on Kaanapali Beach, which is located 3 miles north of Lahaina. There are only a few smaller hotels, including our sister property Lahaina Inn, located right in Lahaina. Most of the hotels and resorts in West Maui are located within the Kaanapali Resort or areas further north. Mahalo.

We stayed at the Royal Lahaina for our 30th anniversary. Our room was very nice and clean. We were upgraded to a partial ocean view which gave us a beautiful view. The beach was beautiful, but currents were strong. Also liked being able to walk to shops and restaurants nearby. The ice cream shop on the property was great for sandwiches and bagel breakfast as well as ice cream. The only downside was parking. One night we spent 20 minutes looking for a space. It was especially annoying because we paid a resort fee for parking.

Aloha. Thank you for selecting the Royal Lahaina to celebrate your 30th anniversary. Happy that you found us to be a good value and enjoyed our location. We do not charge a mandatory resort fee like many of the neighboring resorts, however there is a parking charge for guests with vehicles. Self parking is $10 per day, or for guests who prefer we offer valet service for $15 per day. Mahalo.

What we loved most about this resort was it was not too crowded and the beachfront location was amazing. Snorkeling was great to the north and south and the water crystal clear. The hotel provided good service and the beds were very comfy. Others in our group had to change rooms as they were initially put in a cottage under renovation and it was not in suitable condition, another couple found the non renovated cottage was very basic and had a few issues such as noisy air conditioning, another was in a recently renovated cottage and found it to be perfect, so ask for a renovated cottage and the ones closest to the beach are great. We stayed in the tower accommodation and there were no issues. The American breakfast as part of the package was very basic and exactly the same every day, with the quality being average, so would not recommend purchasing breakfast with accommodation. There was an ice creamery and general store directly out the frond door of the hotel to purchase a variety of food, wine, beer from and breakfast could be ordered from the menu at the restaurant. There was one hour per day free internet in the rooms and pay thereafter. The Maui Luau is also at this resort. Would I stay here again, absolutely, we loved the room, beach, water and location….highly recommended.

Room Tip: Renovated cottage close to beach

Aloha. Thank you for the positive review and recommendation. As you note we have fully renovated several of our cottage buildings and are currently renovating additional units. Until additional units are completed, we can only guarantee a renovated cottage room for guests who book a renovated cottage directly through our hotel reservations office. With regard to the in-room wifi, we offer two options: (1) a free service which operates at 512kb and is set-up to handle basic email communications and internet access; (2) a premium service which operates at 7mbps and is set-up for online activity that requires additional speed such as video streaming. The premium service costs $9.95 per day. The free service is not limited to 1 hour, however due to the way it is provided it times out after each hour and requires users to sign on again. Mahalo.
