“Making Maui Mine!”
Reviewed June 9, 2014

We stayed in studio/kitchen #503 which is a nice oceanview room. The room was spacious for 2 people and the convenience of the kitchen was nice. You could sit on the lanai and watch the swim/boat activities during the day and listen to the waves at night. Great central location; You will need a rental car to get around. We enjoyed great weather for 5 of 7 days. Great tours: Burning Love Theatre; Pacific Whale Foundation snorkel tour; Maui Princess Sunset Dinner Cruise; Hard Rock Cafe; KOA restaurant; and, Roy's. I rode while my husband played 18 holes at the beautiful Kaanapali course. On our snorkel trip we also saw 4 humpback whales (yes it is very later in the season for them) false killer whales, and plenty of fun loving dolphins. Although it rained in Kahana the last 2 days, we just got in the car and drove 5 miles to sunshine and fun. Great vacation....

Room Tip: Plurge and get an ocean view room. Don't miss the Burning Love show; the Pacific Whale Foundati...

Aloha. Glad to hear that you enjoyed your Maui experience and had a great vacation. I am not sure whether or not this review is for the Royal Lahaina Resort however, as we do not have a studio/kitchen unit #503. Mahalo.

Decided to stay on the quieter, more mellow side of Black Rock, and we loved the great service, spacious rooms, and easy access into a great snorkel zone. We've stayed on the south side, where you are side by side with hundreds of other tourists, and we really like the more relaxed pace offered by this resort. Excellent location! Front desk staff was superb. My parents were on floor 5 and needed to request a room change due to the jet noise from the A/C unit outside. They were able to move to the 10th floor, room 1022, which was quiet, except for some noise for the luau, but offered a wonderful ocean view. We were in 7005, nice partial view of ocean, and a nice breeze on the balcony. Go eat the ceviche in the restaurant if you need a delicious afternoon snack with a bit of a kick--sit in Ernie's section!

Aloha. Happy to read that you decided to stay on Kaanapali's North Beach for this visit. As you mention, although just on the other side of Black Rock, our location offers a totally different experience from that offered by the busy strip of hotels on the south side. Glad that you enjoyed the relaxed, peaceful ambiance of the Royal Lahaina. Mahalo.

My wife and I continue to return to the Royal Lahaina Resort as it is one of our favorite places on earth! This April/May was our seventh visit. We always enjoy ourselves immensely. We were given a break on the room rate as returning guests and also were offered a free upgrade to a beach front cottage. The beach is never crowded and the staff are like family to us. Kaanapali Beach with shopping and restaurants is a short 15 minute walk along the beach walk path. Watch the sunset at the Royal Lahaina's Beach Bar with Rebecca, our favorite bartender. You will return!

Room Tip: The cottages are a better value and more private. They are in the process of being remodeled.

Stayed here a fortnight ago and could not really fault it. The room had a great ocean view and was very spacious and clean. One of the best parts is that it is right on Kaanapali beach which is great for snorkelling. All in all a quite good resort!

We basically booked the exact same vacation this time around as we did the year before. Stayed at the same hotel, went to the same beaches, etc. It was easy because we enjoyed ourselves the first time around.

However, this time around RLR was a bit of a disappointment. We stayed on the 3rd floor again, no upgrades. We actually stayed in the room right next to the one we stayed in last year, 3021. It overlooked an AC unit but that was better than the first room given to us, which overlooked the valet area at the entrance of the hotel. No bueno.

Biggest deal breaker this time around: housekeeping NEVER once changed our sheets!!!! NEVER! Ewwwww. I mean for about $200/night, you would expect them to at least change your sheets once or twice, but never?! Gross!! And countless times, HK forgot towels, lotions, shampoos, ice bags, etc. It was annoying having to chase down a HK member and ask for an ice bag or some more lotion. Cmon house keeping, get with the program?!! It's your job to restock and clean the rooms, not just make our beds!

Here's the pros and cons:

- Parking.

Tight spots that are really far away. I think we got to park in the main parking lot once or twice, but overall, we parked all the way at the end of the facilities, which were near the tennis courts. It's only annoying when you have to walk through the rain or when you're carrying a bunch of stuff and you got a long trek.

- Staff.

Surprising, they were all pleasant. Read a few reviews saying the staff was not welcoming but I found that to be not true. They were pretty nice. When we checked in we were told there were no upgrades available. Which was fine I guess, we weren't looking to spend extra cash on a room.

- Our Room 3023.

This is where it starts going downhill. Our room, first of all, overlooked the AC Unit on the rooftop on the 3rd floor. So we basically for a week, stared out at a large AC unit, no ocean view.

The towels. It's a pet peeve when they don't resupply towels and such. I mean, we're paying for a hotel room, why should we have to reuse the damp towels again? Everyday it was something different. We would get bath towels, but no bath mat. Or we would get no wash cloths, no hand towels, only 1 or 2 bath towels. Other times it would be no bath towels, 2 hand towel. Super inconsistent!! What the heck was up with that. They were good about resupplying the bottles of shampoos and lotions.

The shower. It doesn't have a tub ladies. For those of you who like taking baths, there's no tub. It was fine with us EXCEPT they never removed the hair in the shower!! GROSS!! All week the hair and grim just sat there.....never cleaned up. Kind icky.

The bed. It was wayyy to fluffy and soft for my liking. It kind of hurt my back because the padding underneath would keep slipping and there were mounts of fluffiness here and there. It was wierd.

Other things. They were just really bad about resupplying. The ice bag for the ice bucket was never refilled. We had to go down to the front desk to ask several times. There are no frills or extras for honeymooners or anniversaries.

- The Beach. Definitely the highlight.

Kaanapali Beach was literally right there. We walked out to the pool, and bam, the beautiful stretch of beach is right there. So gorgeous. You can take your breakfast out and just sit on the beach, or watch the sunset. Surprisingly, with too many places to snorkel, we never got in at the beach here, but it did seem not crowded at all. Glad we stayed on the west side of Black Rock. Super crisp crystal blue water. Went on for miles. There's also a boardwalk where we jogged several mornings.

Aloha Leona. Thank you very much for making a return visit to the resort and for your feedback. I am sorry that we missed the mark in several areas with regard to Housekeeping services. This is obviously not the expected standard or the experience we want for any of our guests. I will definitely be discussing your review with our Housekeeping and Management Team. I will also follow up directly with you in the hopes that we can regain your confidence and work with you to come back on another visit. Mahalo.

I have lived five minutes from this hotel for ten years and have never had the chance to stay here until this past week. I was surprised by the beautiful interiors and the luxurious feel the rooms had to them. I extremely loved the view which overlooks the ocean and the island of Molokai. Another great surprise was the kind staff who took it upon themselves to make each guest feel welcome. I have stayed at many hotels on Maui and by far enjoyed my stay here the most due to the beautiful facilities, great view, and friendly staff. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Maui for their first time or 20th because nothing can beat this view!!!

Room Tip: Get and ocean front view they are spectacular.

Well it was one of those last minute things...

I hopped on a flight from Honolulu to Kapalua Airport (about ten minutes or so from the resort) and met up with an old friend from the service.

The place was right on the beach, and after spending a week in Waikiki, I was very much ready for something chill and low key. This place was exactly that.

In retrospect, I could have just grabbed a couple of beach towels and slept out on the beach. It was that peaceful.

Rented some snorkel gear and proceeded to absolutely enjoy the heck out of myself.... and get horribly sunburned.

This was an awesome place, the kind of place people go to really unwind.
