Thank you for the 5-Star review. Like you, I think that most of our guests really enjoy the nightly torch-lighting ceremony, music and hula dancing offered in our oceanfront Terrace Lounge. We hope to see you next year! Aloha.
We stayed three nights in a partial ocean view room at the Royal Lahaina resort. We asked for a handicapped accessible room and the desk clerk did try to accommodate us with several options, but we chose to stay in the main resort and it turned out to have the accommodation we needed--a large walk in shower. The room was very comfortable including the bed.
We had to use valet parking because there were NO parking spaces available in the self park.
Except for the original desk clerk who checked us in the hotel staff was pretty indifferent to the guests. There were never any greetings and when questions were asked the staff gave "non answers" , acting like it was an imposition to answer a question, When I asked for recommendations of places not to miss I was told, "Drive north." before the staff member turned and walked off.
The first night we ate in the restaurant because we were tired from traveling. We waited for 30 minutes before a waiter decided to greet us and bring menus. Several passed by and ignored attempts to engage them. After we placed our order, it took over 45 minutes to bring our food. Drink glasses were never refilled and the waiter never returned to see if we needed any further service. There were two drunk women who had been moved from the bar to a vacant table near us. Several staff members tried to move them out unsuccessfully. They were loud and obnoxious but got better service than we did! The same slow service was experienced at breakfast the last morning we were there. I understand being laid back and relaxed, but the service went far beyond acceptable delays.
It is a beautiful facility and we enjoyed exploring the beach and the grounds. The room was comfortable, quiet and well maintained.
Thank you very much for the feedback on your visit. I am sorry to hear that we did not provide the level of service to you that we are normally praised for. Friendly, positive guest interaction from all associates is one of our top goals and naturally we are disappointed anytime we find that we failed in this regard. I will be sure to share your review and experience with our entire management staff, so we can continue to strive for improvement. Glad to hear that overall you enjoyed our facility and your room and we hope you will allow us a future opportunity to offer our services to you. Mahalo.
Just returned from the Royal Lahaina Resort, and I have to say I thought it was a truly wonderful place. We were part of a group that was attending a wedding, so stayed at Royal Lahaina because that is where the bride wanted to have her wedding. I have to say that we were very pleased with the resort. We had a partial ocean view room which was lovely, very comfortable king bed. Absolutely no issues with the room at all. We had one issue with the safe (my fault) but security arrived within 10 minutes of being called to reopen the safe for us. We were never short of towels, the room was always cleaned. We liked the black out shutters that kept the room dark for naps or sleeping. I especially liked that the resort is not a huge property. It is so easy to get around. We took advantage of the early risers special in the Ocean Terrace Restaurant, which we thought was good value and ordered off the menu for breakfast once. We did eat dinner at the hotel as well on a couple of evenings and found the food to be very tasty and reasonably priced. I also liked the Royal Scoop, the coffee and ice cream store. We often just got coffee and a bagel for breakfast and you could also get a refill (for a small price) if you kept your cup. They also carry fruit, salads, sandwiches and other baked goods.
We loved the beach walk that went right through the hotel property and along the beach area. A nice alternative for walking, if you didn't feel like walking on the beach. And speaking of the beach, it is truly beautiful and stretches as far as your eye can see. The ocean was a little cool for my liking, and the pools were also quite cold. I only dipped my toes. The only thing that I could recommend for the hotel would be to have daily activities around the pool area that the guests could participate in. But then again, there is so much to do and see on Maui that we weren't always at the hotel.
I was very impressed with the wedding that we attended and everything that the resort did for the bride. The area where they hold the wedding/reception is really nice, on a lawn overlooking the ocean. The bride chose to have a harpist play at the wedding, and that was a really nice touch. The resort put on a really nice luncheon afterwards, dim sum, fruit, vegetables and drinks on the lawn. It was a beautiful occasion, not just for the setting, but for all the nice little touches.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this resort.
Thank you very much for the very nice review! Appreciate all of the positive feedback and great information, it really helps potential guests get a good feel for what we have to offer. So happy to read how much you enjoyed the resort, your visit to Maui and the wedding you attended. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Aloha!
The beach is great, clean, excellent water
Restaurant on the property is nice
BUT - the beds are just horrible - cheap and very narrow spring matrasses. My back was hurting every morning. Layout of rooms is a bit strange, with a vanity facing the room....
Breakfast is from 6 to 10 am only. There is just one restaurant on the property, not too much around it as well.
My other big issue was sanitation. At the pool side bar the barrista took money, cards, receipts, and then handled food without gloves and without washing her hands - mint, olives, pineapple slices, lemon for cocktails. This was shocking to me, so I brought the issue up with the restaurant manager, but nothing has changed. Next day - different person working there, but the same thing - no gloves - first take money, then touch food...
Connections to the other hotels were not very good, the shuttle starts only at 10 am.
Thank you for your feedback. Very sorry to learn that our resort did not meet your expectations, as we truly desire to assist all of our guests in making the most of their Hawaiian vacation. A couple of notes - Presidential Plush Pillow Top mattresses, considered to be top of the line in the hotel industry, are in each of our Tower guestrooms. There are two restaurants at the Royal Lahaina Resort, our Terrace Restaurant which is open for breakfast , lunch and dinner and Basil Tomatoes which is open exclusively for dinner. We also have an Ice Cream Parlor which serves continental breakfast items, sandwiches, salads and specialty coffees and a Trading Company which offers take out food items. Mahalo.
We were in a Garden room, and we loved it. It was airy and comfortable. Even though the hotel didn't have water for a few hours, our stay was wonderful. I walked every day along the beach path, so I understand there were newer and probably more luxurious resorts, however; this resort is a great buy and is every bit as comfortable.
Mahalo for the 5-Star review. Glad that you enjoyed the cottage room and the resort. Thank you for the understanding with regard to the busted water-main, we were really proud of the effort from our Engineering Team to locate and correct the problem so efficiently. Aloha!
We got this Hotel at a very good rate, almost everything on Maui was more expensive than Royal Lahaina Resort (RLR). I had initially gone through numerous reviews & judged the reviews according to whats really important to me, then realized this could be perfect even if i experience service issues as most people reported at this price point. We got there and it was a dated hotel, but besides that i had no issues, they are on the beach, awesome location, tranquil clear water & a very clean -efficient room. The wood accents all around room make the room practically dust free, especially the wood floors -balcony is tight but very nice on high floors. We spent very little time in our room as most would, but beds are very comfortable -could not find anything bad -bathrooms were tight, but just enough for most. We went up to the highest peak for sunrise at 4am.....then took bicycles down the mountain side, it was thrilling & the hotel helped set that up. Driving around the island to different beaches is something everyone should do, winding roads with amazing scenery -but most of all relaxing is the best at RLR.
Mahalo for your positive review! Glad to read that all was to your satisfaction and that were able to provide an environment in which you could fully relax and rejuvenate on your vacation. Aloha!
