“Great resort in Maui”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

I stayed at the Royal Lahaina in November 2012. I'm a wheelchair user and I had specifically asked for an accessible room. When we arrived, we were given a non-accessible room as all the accessible ones were already taken. After I spoke with the manager, we were upgraded to a two bedroom ocean front suite - a fantastic room with splendid view. The staff at the hotel was really helpful and friendly throughout our stay. We booked some tours at the concierge and they were both knowledgeable and friendly. The breakfast was not included in our stay so we only went for it once. It was really good but pricey. The restaurant was ok but nothing more. The bar was really good though and the Mai Tais amazing. I would recommend this hotel to anyone as we were really pleased with our stay.

Room Tip: Book in good time and ask for an ocean front view.

The location of this hotel, without a doubt, cannot be faulted. To step from the hotel grounds directly on to Kaanapali Beach is amazing! Having originally booked an ocean front cottage, I was worried after reading some of the other reviews. So, when offered an 'upgrade' to an ocean view tower room we jumped at the opportunity. Unfortunately, rooms are not ready until 3pm and we had to wait several hours so take note of your check in times as it seems this place uses every hour in cleaning the rooms. Once we finally got to our upgraded room, the view was breathtaking from the 11th floor. It literally felt like you were sleeping on the ocean. There is no denying this hotel is showing its age though. From the terribly noise air conditioning unit in our room through to the toilet that blocked several times during our stay, the signs of the 70's are evident. There is also a lot of outdated signs throughout the resort foyer, from the restaurant setting to the jeweler store and resort offices. The resort grocery store, however, was very competitive in terms of pricing and stock in comparison to the local ABC Store and so convenient to be within the resort itself. The service in the hotel was not what I would have expected for a beach front resort. We traveled as a couple but our room was made for a single person on a number of occasions (e.g. only 1 set of towels and hand washers were left). We were also quizzed as to the need for one king sized bed - a same sex couple confused the local staff a little I think. Housekeeping tended to be slow, with our room not made before 2pm most days. Not too much of a problem if you are out or lazing on the beach for the day but slightly inconvenient on days when rain comes. If you are looking for relaxation time in an affordable and comfortable surrounding then this resort is the place for you. If you are accustomed to luxurious touches as a traveler I would recommend the larger name competitors, such as Hyatt Regency, Sheraton or Westin, which are all close by but naturally that will come at a cost in Maui.

Room Tip: It seems from other reviews that seeking an ocean view room in the tower enhances a stay in this res...

We aare happy to hear you enjoyed the view and room for our Lahaina Kai Tower room. Our cottages are current project that we are working on this coming year, new outisde look, new paint beds, carpet and fixtures. They have been softly renovated a few time since the 1970's and being that they are usally sold out we always want to ensure you have a great vacation with us. At check in we do not guarentee the bedding, so the agents are trained to ask, no matter what the gender to the bedding type they prefer. We take pride in our cutomer service and accept everyone at our Ohana hotel. Thank you for the great review on our Royal Trading Company, I myself have to say we have a great wine wall and selection of souvenirs and snacks. Mahalo for staying with us and I'm sure you would be pleasantly surprised to see improvements we are currently working on.

My family of 4 stayed at the Royal Lahaina for 4 nights. We were given a cottage room which we were excited about until we got into the room. The carpet was torn up all over with stains. The bathroom had big brown splatters all over the walls. The sink didn't drain. The closet doors were big, heavy mirrored doors that immediately came off the track and were too heavy to lift so the closet wasn't usable. The air conditioner sprayed water all over you when you walked in and out the back door. The staff was unhelpful, rude and hung up on my husband when we were trying to talk to someone about our 2nd key not working. Overall, this place is a total dump that I would stay away from. But, we were able to laugh it off and enjoy our vacation.

Aloha an d thank you for your candid feed back on you most recent stay with us. We are sorry to hear your vacation was not what you expected it to be, The concerns you have brought to our attention are currently being addressed. The cottages are different from our main tower that has renovated rooms and many differnt views. The cost is more but it sounds like this would be more to your liking. We are sold out of the cottages year round but of course if someone is not happy and we have the availability we are always willing to help you get a room you feel comfortable in. We do take pride in our customer service and always try to ensure the best service available. We hope we can restore your confidence in our beautiful resort on your next Maui vacation. Please like us on Facebook and watch for great specials throughout the year. Mahalo.

We started out in a cottage room on the ground floor. The rooms were very outdated with a lumpy bed and dusty lamps. You could hear everything next to you and above you. Small kids were constantly running and jumping above us. We stayed here 9 nights, but after 2 nights, we were upgraded to Tower rooms. Much, much nicer!!! During our trip it rained at our resort 7 days out if 10! We had stopped at Walmart near the airport as soon as we landed to buy beach chairs, a cooler, alcohol, snacks and lunch food. That was the best decision ever! We rented a car every day and explored the island! We drove to wherever the sun was shining and it was not at Kaanapali beach all week! Road to Hana was great. Haleakala sunrise was the highlight of the week. We did the Molokini and Lanai tour with Pacific Whale Foundation. We snorkels with turtles, saw lots of whales and a few fish. The luau at Royal Lahaina is a complete joke!! Do not waste your money! Also, the breakfast next door at Castaway is half the price and much better (walk next door). Parking is horrible at this resort! Walk next door to Black Rock to snorkel with sea turtles (sheraton hotel) south side, walk through hotel. Even young children can do this one. Sandy shallow bottom.

We stayed at Royal Lahaina and found the staff to be very unfriendly and ignored you while we waited to be served in the restaurant. Would not recommend this resort as there much nicer places to stay as we found out by travelling down to Kihei and the beaches are fantastic. The beach is nice at Royal Lahaina this is definitely correct but the rooms are not what we expected for the price we paid.
The luau was a joke and we stayed to eat the meal only. Don't mean to be negative but in comparison to the other hotels we stayed out during our USA trip this one was not what we expected.

pretty resort right on kaanapali beach. View from our room on the 8th floor of the tower was awesome! The restaurant served good food, though birds flying in and out and landing on your table could be a bit unsanitary. No health club or workout room was disappointing, and the beach walk where we were told to run was way too short to get a good run and very little of it was actually on the beach or even had a view of the beach. Finally, parking was a pain with very tight spots.

We paid extra to upgrade from a partial ocean view room to a full ocean view room which was not available at the time of booking. The view from a full ocean view room was great. However, the room is small. Staff at Luau was not friendly. They served randomly. Some of the guests sat there without a drink but others had already been served twice. Had to show them your tips on the table and they came like bees sensing flowers.Their Luau performance was a joke. Look for other places for Luau. The swimming pool is so close to the restaurant, you would be performing in front of all guests at the restaurant. Location of the hotel is good. A clean and sandy beach is right in front of the hotel. It is just a short drive from the hotel to Whalers Village and Front Street restaurants. Their parking space at the hotel lot is narrow. Have to be very careful with your car doors. There is free internet and printer for flight check-in and boarding pass at the office near the main entrance.

Aloha and thank you for your recent comments. We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy our luau. Our luau is the best on the strip. Please let us know what you did not enjoy about the show as we host of 600 people a night and get very liitle complaints. Wea are alwasy looking for ways to improve and we appreciate more detail on why you felt it was a joke. Our luau has the largest variety of food and the only luau that has a children's buffet, including mac n cheese, chicken nuggets and fries for the picky eaters. Drinks are complimentary and the waiters do their best to make sure everyone gets served to their liking. We also have a service bar with wonderful bartenders at the entrance that you can go up to as many time as you wish. We are an ocean front property with 2 ocean front pools and a pool and jacuzzi up by our tennis ranch, one located to the left of the main tower with its own bar or one directly in front of the main tower. Free internet & printer is located in our Guest Relations office next to the Royal Scoop availible from 7-7pm
