Our first trip to Maui - WONDERFUL experience! Great condo- second floor - perfect view of the ocean, whales, dolphins - food at the resort - exceptional! Great drink specials and food specials. We even saw sea turtles along the beach - great bonus!! I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. Just 10 minutes from Lahaina - a very nice drive - south, then just 10 minutes north another beautiful drive. Only one negative I could find - the pool was too cold to swim in. Since it doesn't get very cold at night - not sure why it's so cold. But the hot tub was perfect. Also the activities they offer - outstanding. The hula lesson was very easy - and Bill was so nice. The grounds were kept up perfectly.... Amazing experience.

Room Tip: I suggest second floor ocean front--

Aloha, Ann! We are so happy your first trip to Paradise resulted in such a wonderful experience. You came at just the right time to witness the annual humpback whale migration, which lasts from December through April. We are glad you had the opportunity to witness this wonderful sight from the lanai of your spacious suite, which offers spectacular ocean views. We are sorry you found the resort pool too cold to enjoy. Most pools in temperate Hawaii are not heated. The surrounding ambient temperature is usually sufficient to self-regulate the pool water to a comfortable degree. Conversely we are glad the hot tub served its purpose to your satisfaction. Captain Billy Bones is one of our most popular activities coordinators. What did you think of his ukulele playing? Thank you for sharing your comments. We appreciate your generous review and hope you will consider us again.

As an owner for more than 10 years and have been returning each year to avoid the middle of winter back home, I have to say that the Sands of Kahana have been meticulously maintained and improved. I have watched the exteriors painted, the roof on the restaurant repainted & solar panels replaced, the kiddy pool overhauled, the elevator speed improved, carpets replaced, furniture reupholstered, washers & dryers replaced and the list goes on. I have stayed in all of the four buildings at least once and found each kept to the same high standard.
The facility is constantly being improved and at the same time meticulously maintained by a hard working pleasant staff, from the front desk clerk to the maintenance personnel. Each room is equipped to handle the living needs of guests, plenty of towels, comfortable beds with above average sheets. The kitchen is also well equipped no matter if you are just having breakfast or cooking all your meals in the room. Clean gas barbeques are available to cook out or take advantage of the on premises restaurant, which has also been improved over the years with new tables & chairs as well as new management.
The views of Lanai and Molokai are spectacular; at least one is visible from most of the rooms or both from some or the beach or pool.
I look forward to returning to the Sands of Kahana, this little slice of paradise.

We had a perfect condo right on the beach overlooking the pool and sand/surf. We viewed whales each morning while having our coffee. We got to see turtles, and seals each day too. Equipment rentals for fun on the beach was very convienent. The condo was well equipped with everything we needed. We rented this 3/3 through VRBO and it was the Penthouse so our vista was large. The resort (Sands of Kahana) needs some work as the pool was so cold that you could NOT swim in it comfortably to refresh yourself and the pool area needed a good cleaning as trash was there in the bushes each day and the tables, chairs and lounges needed to be cleaned too. The elevator system is very old and it was not working for almost 2 complete days (9 floors is very hard to climb up to each time we left the condo). All in all it was a good vacation, but the disappointment about the pool was almost too much since we envisioned swimming each day (but did not happen). Also, some sort of supervision should be taken to make sure all guests follow rules and children are not allowed in pool area unattended all day long without their parents.

This is our second stay at the sands. First time we had reserved a two bedroom, ocean view. We had three couples and one single. Sweet surprise! Upgraded to a tree bedroom ocean front at no extra charge. Very large and open floor plan. Full kitchen and two baths. Large living room with sectional...dining room with full size table that seats six. Children's pool, putting green, volleyball on the beach. Nice beachside restaurant. Very accommodating staff. Super slow elevator :(
Second stay close to match of the first (no upgrade this time..but still very nice room with ocean view.
Try to get in building one or three.

Room Tip: Building one or three for best view

Aloha, and thank you for returning to Sands of Kahana. We are happy you enjoyed your stay. It was our pleasure to upgrade you to a three-bedroom unit with full ocean view on your first visit. Not only does this amenity-filled 2,000-square foot suite afford plenty of space and privacy, it also offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Pacific. The two-bedroom unit, at 1,500 square feet, offers the same attributes in a slightly smaller space. We are happy to know our staff was considerate and attentive. We are sorry for the elevator difficulty. We continue to work on a solution. Thank you for sharing your comments. We hope you will consider us again.

We got a room overlooking the ocean, so that was great. Good size with a kitchenette and lanai, and ceiling fans to keep it cool. Washer/dryer, THANK GOODNESS, since we had beachy stuff to wash every couple days. Mid-week service, but we weren't up when they came, and we were supplied perfectly well without it. The only drawback: the rooms are at the center of the complex, adjacent to the breezeway/courtyard, and it ECHOES. Every drunken idiot who returns at all-hours echoes throughout the entire complex and will wake you up, so bring earplugs. Great pool and lounging grounds, BBQs, tennis courts, putting golf, ocean toy rentals. Restaurant is OK, but limited.

Room Tip: get an upper floor and bring earplugs to block the noise of the courtyard.

Aloha! Our ocean view units are prized for their breathtaking vistas that stretch as far as the eye can see. We are glad you found our spacious suite to your liking and appreciated the amenities. As you mentioned, we offer a midweek cleaning on stays of seven days, but are just a phone call away if you require additional housekeeping services. We apologize for the noisy neighbors. Thank you for mentioning our many resort attractions. They contribute to an excellent overall vacation experience, in addition to our close proximity to the beach. We hope you will consider us again. We stayed in a two bedroom unit from Dec. 21-28, 2012. I was disappointed that we had a "garden view" however, even though we were on the first floor of building 4 we could see the ocean. They offered to change our room the next day if an ocean view became available, but my family wanted to stay and not move. The property is very well maintained and very clean. Some of the furnishings in our unit could use an update, but it was so clean and comfortable, it didn't really matter. (It is my understanding that some of the units are condos that are rented so different units may be more updated than others.) The unit had a huge kitchen with everything we needed and then some. The master bedroom had access to the lanai as did the living room. The master bedroom had an attached bathroom-the double sink was outside the of the bathroom in an area I would describe as a dressing area-two huge closets-between probably 5 and 8 feet long. The second bedroom had a bathroom with the double sinks outside of the bathroom which kept my two college aged kids from fight. Their bedroom had two double beds and two large closets. It faced the main hallway of the building. Their room was loud-they could hear everything outside of the unit. The unit was mostly carpeted, except for the bathrooms, kitchen and entry way, however, the hallway in the building was all tile and very loud-especially on very windy days-it sounded like a wind tunnel. There was a huge linen closet with plenty of towels and extra soap, shampoo, tissues, etc. There was an old, but effective stack able washer/dryer unit and they included laundry detergent. We had a few issues-blinds that did not close, a clogged toilet, One thing I did not like about the unit was the sliding doors that separated the master bedroom from the living room(a wall of sliding doors). I felt that it compromised our privacy because we could hear our two college aged kids through the doors and that means they can hear us. The TV is meant to be shared(it swivels) between the two rooms. If I owned that unit, I'd put up real wall for privacy and put a TV in each room(there is a real door off the main hallway that leads to the bedroom. I also did not like the vertical blinds. They did not work properly nor did they keep out the light nor did they give us any privacy if the boys were on the lanai. I'd put up some some light blocking curtains and some sheers. The sheers will allow the breeze to come through and you can close the light blocking ones for privacy. The grands are beautiful. the beach was nice and clean, and the pool was clean. The hot tub was huge. We watched as they thoroughly cleaned the bar-b-ques everyday. The beach was narrow but nice and clean. You can see Lanai and Moloka‘i from the resort. It is really a very pretty setting. The restaurant was excellent. We had breakfast there once morning and dinner one night. The pancakes were great. My steak at dinner was the best one I had the whole week I was there-cooked perfectly. One note about the beach-while we were there, there were several days of high surf-make sure you take those warnings seriously. One day I went in just below my knees and the undertow scared me and that does not happen often. Even on the days that the ocean was calm the undertow was stronger than I expected. The sand on the beach/in the water moves easily-you sink into it, so be careful because could go in deeper than you think which is very different from the compacted sand beaches I am used to. Walked down the beach a little-toward Lahaina. We saw sea turtles near some rocks. They were cool to watch. Overall the place is great and I would love to stay there again.

Room Tip: High floor, facing the ocean. Don't worry about not having air conditioning-our room was cool wi...

We stayed at the Sands Of Kahana (SOK) in Mid November 2012. This place is about 15-20 minutes on the Highway north of the town of Lahina. Its about 45-55 minutes from the Kahalui Airport. We Had a 2 Bed Room in Building 4 Room 432. It was wonderful. This property is a series of 4 highrise buildings in a lush tropical part of North West Maui that adjoins the beach. There are so many things to cover where do I begin. The property has free gas BBQ facilities (2 per building). There is a jacuzzi, a heated kids pool area seperate from the main pool. The only complaint I had was the main pool is NOT heated and in November was freezing! There is a restaurant & Pub dividing the two pool areas. The prices there seemed a bit steep but they did have a few sunset specials that would offset things a bit. It was nice to have an on property dining option. There is a McDonalds about 100 yards up the road to the highway and also an Outback Steak house another 100 yards past that. Theres also a small pub in a stipmall across the street from the main enterance to this place. (Never caugh the name of it). Beside McDonalds is a 24 hr Whallers gas and convienance store. The Nearest grocery store is about 10 min south on the lower Honoapiilani Road. I think its 24hours.The resort has tennis courts and a small mini golf course. There is a small exercise room off the parking garage for building 4. Parking is free and each building had plenty of it. Underground parking areas were tight and filled up quickly.

The 2 Bed room was very spacious. The master bedroom had a king size bed and a sliding wall divider seperating it from the living room. The spare bed room was 2x Doubles. The beds were comfy and linnens were above average. There were starter soaps, detergent in the unit and toilet paper was supplied. Maintenance was meticulous. Rooms looked recently painted.

The beach was good. About 200 yards to the south on the beach was a rock area that Green Sea Turtles would come out and sun themselves on at mid-late afternoon every day. The water was a bit choppy and murky, so not really a good snorkelling beach. There were plenty of surfers spotted up to 300 yards off shore. Aparently there is a surf spot there called S Turns that gives an intermediate surfer experience. Im not a surfer, just going by what others were talking about that area. There was a good snorkelling area about 10 minutes North up the road by Napili called Kapalua Bay, that has just about everything you would want to see if your a snorkeller.

The Island of Lanai is about 5 miles to the west and obscures sunsets, but theyre still pretty. Not as good as the Kehei area, but still drawing a crowd each night to the beach. I prefer the Kehei area to Kahana, but Kahana is definately more green, lush and tropical, where as Kehei is barren, but has better beaches and snorkelling. We got a mist of rain each morning and the days were good, but a bit windy.

All and all this was a fabulous Holiday, my 12 year old made lots of friends with the multitude of kids at this place. I have fond memories of it and would return here again if the price were right. Other wise I would prefer the Kamaole Sands in Keihei or the Maui Banyan in Kehei (where the pool is heated). I dont think a person could go wrong at the Sands of Kahana. Its Paradise!
