This is our second trip back to Napili Shores. What people need to understand about this place is that it's not a mega-resort. That's the total beauty of it. It's a more true Hawaiian experience - wtih its low rise, casual, but totally beautiful setting.
No, there is no big expansive white sand beach with lifeguards. What you do have is one of the best bays on the island [IMO] with Napili Bay. Literally steps from your doorstep here - you can spend a full day on the beach enjoying some of the best waves, and most beautiful scenery there is.
If you want upgrades and creature comforts - look around on the owner sites and rent directly from an owner. We have both times - and both units are upgraded to total comfort and style. The unit we are in right now is direct ocean front - totally redone - granite, limestone, surround sound, full plasma TV [should you choose to turn it on]. All the comforts of home wtih a full kitchen and a washer and dryer. It is possible to stay in total comfort - for roughly $200 a night if you do your homework. Our first stay was almost the exact same [sans washer and dryer] in a one bedroom here for around $165 a night. You simply need to look around on the vrbo listings and there are tons of options for this and the other Napili condos.
We just left the Mauna Lani on the Big Island [stayed in a golf villa on the Fairways]. That place was total luxury. Guess what? My family prefers Napili Shores. We cook out on the outdoor grills and the girls are outside playing shuffle board.
Wouldn't trade this experience, or this location for anywhere else on the island of Maui.
