“Away from the crowds”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2012

Condo 201, in our minds, has the best location in the resort: corner room and upstairs, and literally just a few feet away from the sand. It was stocked with everything imaginable, and the gift basket from the owner included coffee, macadamia nut chocolates and cookies, and more. Ideal location for those who want to get away from the crowds at Waikiki, PLUS great snorkeling and restaurants within walking distance. We will return soon!

Room Tip: 201, in our mind, has the best location

Great place for a couple. It's small but it has everything you need. We stayed in a corner beach front unit and it was perfect. A great value in my opinion!

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, you may not want a room right on the sand. The waves can get a little lo...

Napili Bay #205: PROS: In Napili Bay (LOVE Napili Bay...read about it elsewhere), a second story corner condo studio unit with 2 open sides on the lanai (a really very nice feature), and less expensive than many similar units in Napili Bay. If you can do stairs, get a second story unit...better views, more privacy/security, less noise, etc. Quite nice furniture suite inside, decently updated bathroom and usual site amenities for Napili Bay (BBQ area, coin operated washer-dryer, free parking, beach shower). Had a queen and a day bed (actually might have been a trundle bed which would have expanded) which was necessary for 2 friends who are not a "couple" traveling together. There were soap, shampoo, starter paper products, plenty of towels, beach towels, boogie boards, sun umbrella, beach chairs and flotation toys provided. There are 2 public beach access points to Napili Bay, but neither of them is adjacent to this property. A good market in nearby Napili Plaza and Snorkel Bob's around the corner.
CONS: Kitchen has not been updated. Rental agent Mauibeachfrontrentals.com described it as being "fully applianced" but there was NO dishwasher and NO ice-maker in the 'fridge. There is an ice machine on the property but the soft ice froze into a solid block in the refrigerator, which was not even provided with an ice caddy or anything you could use as one...just 2 ice cube trays. No wi fi. The patio furniture is horrible, with high, armless bar stool type chairs that your feet could not touch the cross bars on and were uncomfortable to the point of being unusable. A good concept (high table and chairs), but they chose badly. When you come to Napili you want to hang out on your lanai. You can drag the 2 little ottomans outside to provide a place to put your feet with these. We chose to drag an interior chair outside and temporarily appropriated a plastic chair from the common area (replaced when we left). These units require a lock box code to get into, which we did not receive by email until the day before we arrived, and since we were mid-vacation and not checking email (and there's no wi fi in the unit), did not receive this. No mention of this detail had been made in the previous booking emails. Fortunately for us, the office was open when we called; we would have been seriously out of luck if it had been after-hours. We had to call the office for repairs to the louvers, louver-cranks and the interior pocket doors. The doors were jammed in the open position, providing no bathroom privacy. A repairman (who came promptly, on Mother's Day Sunday) was able to yank the bathroom door out of the wall, but we had to be careful to not ever push it back open all the way and it was not repaired while we were there, which was probably just as well because this will be a big job. The second sliding door enclosing the sink/closet area was also non-functional. The shag carpet was tired and a bit icky, not surprisingly. The more updated units tends to have no-slip tile.
OTHER: There is a tree directly in front of the unit and from the unit photos I was afraid it would obscure the view, but it was trimmed down sufficiently low that it wasn't an issue and was rather pleasant, however because it provides some rare beach shade on Napili Bay, you get a lot of folks hanging out under it. If they're quiet it's not a problem, and wasn't for us, but it could be. There's no A/C and pretty much none of the condo units in Napili have it. Unless it's really hot and the trade winds have died, it's not a problem. The cross breeze from the louvered exterior door and wall/door facing the beach is strong. There was the usual overhead fan and a standing fan in the closet which in May we did not have to use. There is no pool. Lots of wave noise at night, but you'll miss it when you're gone!

If you don't mind the "cons" this was a good price for a well-situated unit, and I would stay here again if I couldn't find another corner second story unit with 2 beds. I'd pay more for a better-updated unit. Like anything in Napili, book waay in advance.

Room Tip: Second story corner units which don't have the side of the lanai enclosed have the best views.

We stayed in another unit last year, this time in 217. Really nicely updated, newer furnishings, bed was a memory foam(really comfortable) 2 nice ceiling fans to keep place cool, 2 good boogie boards and 2 beach chairs. We were welcomed with a nice basket of fruit, chocolate and a beach bag that we used a lot.
Mostly older couples who are quiet and tend to got to bed early, not a place for kids!
Highly recommend Napili Bay 217

This lowrise resort sits right on Napili Bay. No A/C, but ceiling fans were adequate. Also no pool which may or may not matter to some. This is not a luxury resort. Well equipped kitchen, limited snorkel gear and 2 beach chairs, hairdryer. Unit 218 is the furthest from the beach, but still has a limited beach view from the deck and is right above the managers office. Easy walking distance to a small grocery store and snorkel shop. Great walking routes around the neighborhood towards Kapalua and Fleming Beach Park. The only thing I would do differently is verbally confirm my reservations with the owner, as there was a bit of confusion about my checkout date with the cleaning service. This was cleared up fairly quickly with a phone call. I loved my stay here and will return!

Napili Bay Resort #209 was excellent. The condo was in good condition, right on the beach, with a beautiful view in two directions. It is close to a grocery store and snorkel Bob's. The condo was clean, the bed comfortable - we had a great stay. The only negative is that it is so close to the beach and the waves can get large and heavy. If you are a light sleeper and sensitive to noise, this may not be the condo for you. Otherwise outstanding.

We have stayed at Napili Bay a few times. It's proximity to the beach and the ocean cannot be beat. The view from the second floor units are better than the first floor. We stayed in Unit 208. We will probably be staying in a different resort next time because we like to have air conditioning and also get tired of hearing the waves crash after a few nights.
