We loved our stay at the Aston Mahana. We stayed in room 817 which had a spectacular view.
Upon arrival we were greeted by Jean, she was very pleasant, friendly and helpful.
The condo was furnished very well and had all the facilities we needed for our stay.
There is a supermarket, Subway and Pizza Paradiso within 5 minutes walk from the condo.
Housekeeping were inconsistent and often did not complete their duties properly e.g. forgetting to replenish teabags, laundry and dishwashing detergent every day. Fresh towels were often dirty.

The phone in our condo was out of service but front desk did not tell us at check-in, however, it started "working" after someone tried to leave a message for us. Apart from those minor teething problems, the view was so breathtaking we did not want to leave Aston Mahana - it was like paradise.

Room Tip: Choose a room on a upper floor.

My wife and I booked this location through Costco Travel and were given a 5th floor studio unit, which was sufficiently high to truly enjoy the view. We had a class at the Honua Kai next door which would have been twice as expensive without the wonderful Oceanfront experience. Swimming beach is only about 50 yards to the left or right, because the Mahana is right on a large reef which enhances the waves and snorkeling experiences.

This is not a "resort" in the major sense; it is more like living in a residential apartment complex which is an experience we liked. Plus, there is nothing stopping you from enjoying all of the resort-like amenities next door with its own scuba shack, restaurant, etc. Kaanapali beach is gorgeous, and the pool / hot tub area are sufficiently large and clean for our purposes.

The unit was nice, although the wind gusts when we left the lanai door open and then opened the front door were sometimes shocking. The kitchen was adequate and the convenience of the washer dryer were welcome. The staff took care of us just fine and were non-intrusive which was appreciated. Susan the Expedia Concierge was exceedingly helpful (we won a free ticket to Ulalena during her a.m. intro meeting). She booked our whole week's activities and restaurants that first day we were there, and we managed to save a little money doing it. She gave suggestions and called ahead to each company/restaurant for us and we just picked up all of our reservations later in the day.

We intend to stay here again on our next trip to Maui.

Room Tip: All rooms face the ocean, so I can't imagine there is a bad one in the place.

We stayed at the Aston Mahana from June 9-16, 2012 in room 911. Overall, we found this to be a decent property but quickly missed the conveniences of a resort. The most disappointing aspect by far was the beach. The beach was not a good walking beach at all, especially at high tide. There was no place to even put chairs or lounges in the sand to get that true beach experience - even at low tide.

Our condo's accommodations were decently equipped, but outdated for the price. However, our biggest gripe was the extremely weak air conditioning unit. It far under performed for an oceanview unit that was absorbing the heat of the day and a setting sun. The unit didn't even have fans in the main living room which was 81 degrees by 2 or 3 pm, so we found ourselves overheated at the end of the day after a full day in the sun.

The positives ... The view was beautiful. The location was within walking distance of a grocery store and was also very close to shops and restaurants.

We enjoyed our time in Maui and plan to return, but we don't plan on returning to this property.

Room Tip: The air conditioning unit significantly under performed in Room 911.

We just happend to stay here at the last minute for a few days during our honeymoon, We made the right decision. It's beautiful! We stayed in room 407 which was unbelievable. The condos are individually owned so they are all decorated differently. Our room had an updated kitchen and bath, beautiful murals on the wall, mirrors everywhere, and a stunning stained glass door. The view was amazing. We could watch the sunset from the lanai. We also could here the waves crashing as we fell asleep. It was right on the beach. The service was wonderful and the beach area was beautiful. Definitely recommend this place and would love to stay here again!

Room Tip: Get a deluxe oceanfront updated room! Well worth it!

We recently stayed at the Aston Mahana during our honeymoon in Hawaii and we absolutely loved it! We found the resort to be well appointed and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We stayed in a 1 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment on the 12th floor and found the views to be the most spectacular of our stay in Hawaii. The resort is located right on the beach with views across to 2 of the other islands and on one occasion we saw a whale from our lani.
The apartment was equipped with everything you could need for a day down on the beach and all necessary kitchen appliances and accessories. It was great to have kitchen and laundy facilities after stays in other resorts without. While you are not able to swim in the beach direclty in front of the hotel due to the reef, only about a short 200m walk to either side of the resort you will find lovely beach areas suitable for swimming and snorkelling. The free DVD rental was great for a night in snuggled up on the couch. The concierge service was great and we booked several activities via this service with no trouble obtaining bookings at late notice. I would recommend a visit to Dukes resteraunt located along the boardwalk during your stay. Can't wait to go back again!
