“Great resort, will definitely return”
Reviewed November 1, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

We booked our stay at Kaanapali Alii through Costco. It was a 2-bedroom with an ocean view. The room was very clean and had everything we needed during our stay. The staff at Kaanapali Alii is very nice and helpful. The facilities were great and we spent a lot of time out by the pools. The bbq grills were a nice feature, we ended up using those as well.
Kaanapali Alii doesn't rent surfboards or SUPs, but you can rent them through a local vendor who will deliver them to the resort. There is a secure spot to store them near the water, so it worked out great. We had no complaints about Kaanapali Alii and will be booking there again next year.

There's a reason this place is rated #1 in Ka'anapali on Trip Advisor.

I can't stress how relaxing this place is. On a pretty quiet stretch of Ka'anapali beach, but within walking distance of Whaler's Village (shopping, bars/restaurants) and Black Rock (snorkeling, spa, cliff diving, etc). Spectacular views of the ocean, pool grounds, and Molokai and/or Lanai (depending on where you're at). There is not one thing that doesn't totally rock about the Alii.

The pool area is pretty sweet. There are 3 pools and a hot tub, and plenty of chairs and cool areas where you can sit in the grass under a frond umbrella. There's a shaded open air area with couches and tables with wi-fi and two LCD flat screens. And most importantly, the grill area. 8 gas grills and a super chilled out area to eat what you've cooked up. It's such a nice set up that it's almost ridiculous. The landscaping is unparalled compared to all the other properties I walked by and saw or went into. Gorgeous.

If the beach is your thing, they have really cool wooden chaise lounges you can rent, as well as surf board and paddle board rentals.

The rooms are all different, but the one we had was super modern and could have stood in for a downtown NYC apartment. Spacious is an understatement....more like massive. The kitchen was extremely well-stocked, containing everything you need to cook with, and very new appliances, including a dishwasher. Spectacular views, a super chilled out lanai to sit out on and drink coffee or wine and watch the catamarans float in the ocean. Washer and dryer in the room, marble and tile everything...whatever you need, this place has.

The only thing I'd note is that Kaanapali, Lahaina and west Maui in general seems to cater to seniors, families and couples on their honeymoons...everything gets real quiet around 9pm, which is insane by my standards. I was left wanting to be able to hang somewhere and drink and hear music, but everyone hits it pretty early in order to get up early for all the awesome activities you can do on the island (snorkeling, helicopter tours, etc.). I had a great time, but I imagine that visiting with a significant other would be even better.

Room Tip: Choose a room as high up as possible for better views - we stayed on the top floor and it was stunni...

My wife and I just got back from our Maui vacation yesterday. We also took our 4 month and spent 7 nights at this place. This is our second time in Maui and we stayed at the Hyatt last time. We stayed in unit 122 in building #1 (i believe). The unit is partial ocean view and includes a den which has been converted into a 2nd bedroom. Let me tell you, i was totally impressed with this unit. The unit itself was very well maintained, contains tiled floors (no carpets) and looks like it has been recently renovated with new appliances. The Lanai has partial view of the oceans and overlooks the Swimming pool. The mgmt absolutely didn't cut any corners in maintaining the property and the staff is super friendly. I will be coming back to this place in a couple of years. If you are looking for some quiet family time where you get to relax at a beautiful pool located right at the beach then this is the place for you! We walked by the Marriott vacation club and we were glad we stayed here. There is a reason this place is rated #1 in Kaanapali.

Room Tip: Room 122 in building #1 contains partial oceanview and comes with an additional bedroom. So, you pa...

For my husbands birthday I took him to Maui for a 8 day stay at the Kaanapali Alii, we had stayed there before in 2010 and it was so great that we had to come back. The resort is gorgeous and it's right on the beach. The staff is amazing and always trying to please. We were able to book many different activities with Fuji the concierge, she knew all the best places to go and went out of her way to help us do everything we wanted. We will definitely come back!

Room Tip: We always like to get a higher room to enjoy the sunset.

Just returned from the Alii last night & wish we were still there. We were on the top floor with an incredible view of the ocean and the swimming pools. The unit is huge and the furnishings were top of the line. Everything looked out at the ocean. It was our anniversary and we could not have asked for a better vacation.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. We travel extensively and I would rate this facility right up there with the best.
The location is excellent. You are within easy walking distance to Whalers Village and several other major hotels and restaurants. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor ----- ocean view is spectacular

My husband and I just returned from a 10 day stay at the Kaanapali Alli. It was beautiful and more than we expected. Thank you Mr. Altier for your thoughtfulness with the upgrade and to your staff for their help when we needed something.

We were not going to rent a car but since the taxi from the airport would be approx. $80 one way, I looked into car rental through Costco. I rented a car for $166 for ten days. I was told by an agent from Costco to check the price as it can change daily. I originally booked it for $200. It came down to $166. We brought our GPS from home and it was wonderful. We always found parking in the lot and there was no daily charge.

Our condo was a one bedroom oceanview on the 10th floor. It was beautiful. Yes the furniture was outdated but the view was spectacular. The condo was equipped with all utensils, soaps, coffee, laundry room and a big screen TV. We did have WFI. We had a den which doubled as a second bedroom. There was no window but it was a den! We had all the comforts of home.

The food is expensive. I brought a few nonnperishable items from home. Cereals, mixes etc., and they came in very handy. There is a Safeway down the main road (glad we had a car) and we purchased the essentials: bread, butter, eggs, milk. I didn't have my Dominicks card but I gave the cashier my tele # and we got the discount. The bread was freshly baked daily. Very good. We ate breakfast in the condo almost every morning. Actually it was a pleasure to cook, sit on the Lanai and listen and watch the waves on the beach! Very relaxing!! We did eat breakfast on Dukes once. It was about $35.00. They have four grills on the property. They are cleaned daily and are spotless. We grilled a couple of times. Some of the restaurants we ate at were: Leilani's (very good). Drinks were $10. Happy hour drinks (3-5) were $5. The Hula Grill was also good. Our best meal was at Longhi's. Our server Elly was great. We had two pasta dishes and wine. Approx $70. As far as the Luau's go, we decided to go to The Feast At Lele. It was intimate. We had our own table, and the show was awesome. The drinks were not watered down and they kept flowing. Wonderful staff.

All in all I would highly recommend the Alii. Its on a nicer part of the beach and property is well maintained. If I had to give any advice, it would be to request an oceanview condo on a high floor to enjoy the view and definitely rent a car. Explore and see the beautiful landscape.

The apartment was big and well equipped, but one of the two rooms was windowless and the furniture was gloomy and old style cheap, making you feel in the house of retired people, The outlook of the apartment was not in line with the gorgeous location of the building, which is on the wonderful Kaanapali Beach, where you can find all you can wish in terms of nature, sports, services and amenities.
The personnell is professional but not very supportive and flexible in case of need. For istance, they gave us a voucher for a complimentary breakfast we discovered the very last day, we could have only the first morning after our arrival from 8.30 till 10.00, in the context of a local tour operators marketing session. Otherwise, if they have no chance to sell you something (because you are leaving Maui) no breakfast at all! They should find another name rather than "complimentary breakfast" to define a tour operator marketing session, assisted by a cup of coffee!
