“Resortquest- bait and switch”
Reviewed May 2, 2007

We stayed at Resortquest at Papakea during the week of April 21 to April 28, 2007. There were many areas in which either the facilities did not live up to the promises made, or the staff simply did not do an adequate job. First, we paid extra for an ocean-view condo. What we actually got was a condo from which we could not see the ocean at all, unless we went out to a far corner of the balcony from which we could catch a glimse of the ocean. Both bedrooms actually faced the parking lot, with the added benefit of listening to cars coming in and out all night. When we requested a different room which might actually have fulfilled their promise, we were told there were no other rooms available, and since we had paid for the accommodation in advance, were stuck with what they gave us. The condo was very poorly maintained, with the paint literally peeling off the walls and rust everywhere. One morning we woke to find the carpet soaked as the line feeding the icemaker was evidently leaking. The last weekend we were there was the capper to our experience. Apparently the resort rented a condo to a group having a party, directly below our condo. At 2:30 in the morning, they had a large group of people talking and smoking directly beneath the windows of our bedrooms. When the group refused to quiet down after several requests, I went to the office who said they would take care of it. However, the noise and the smoking went on until after 4:00. My warning to others is that price and value do not always go hand-in-hand. While the price of this resort was certainly less than other facilities, the value was much, much less.

Three bedroom had soiled carpet, laminate counters badly chipped, cheap mattresses, stove that should have been replaced 15 years ago, worn woodwork, etc., everywhere. Clearly, the resort spends time and money on maintenance of landscaping, but it's also clear they don't require unit owners to spend any money keeping the rooms nice.

It's not that much of a bargain when you really compare cost to the quality you receive from a top notch hotel chain. Spend a little extra and avoid this eyesore.

We stayed at the Papakea resort from an Interval International exachange. We were given a unit with no air conditioning which made it unbearable. With the windows open it was noisy and with the windows closed it was horribly stuffy. The units don't have real window, they have louvred windows and keep no sound out. The area does not have good weather and we went to Kaanapali every day. We would never stay there again and did not think it was anything like a 5 star resort.

We stayed at the papakea resort in April and had a wonderful time. We didn't have the nicest greeting though. Upon check in we were told that we weren't official Resortquest Guests cause we rented from vrbo.com, That is where you rent directly from the condo owner, therefore we didn't get the kids packs or anything else that resortquest guests get. Condo, c402 was where we stayed and it was o.k. Room was great for the value. Don't bring heavy pj's as it got pretty got a little warm at night. We had the windows open but still got a ittle warm. THe garbage truck and other construction vehicles started very early waking me about 7am wich was fine cause I loved the mornings on the lanai with the beautiful view of the ocean and whales. People that want to sleep in may not like this room. unit itself was a little outdated, but all in all it was good for the price we paid. The Maui To Do list that Jan provided us was so helpful. I would definately recommend renting through vrbo.com however realize that the front desk may not treat you like you would get treated if you rented directly from a travel agent or the hotel itself. THe pools were great, but kids weren't aloud to play games like Marco Polo or such. Older folks that own places there get a little testy, to testy as far as I'm concerned. We tended to ignore as our kids weren't causing any problems, just having fun. The beach was great, cause we didn't like sitting in the sand all the time. We would sit on the green space above the grass. We didn't get sand on ourselves, and the breeze from the ocean was great. The view from our C402 room was the best. Wasn't ocean front, but when it says oceanview, it means oceanview. Fantastic. I loved watching the ocean early in the morning and at sunset. Great value!! Can't wait to go back again.

We stayed at this condo resort from April 10th to April 15th 2007. The grounds truly are beautiful and maintained every day. Our group was three couples so we had booked a 3 bedroom condo. Imagine our surprise when one room had twin beds. The unit was not very clean. Some of the bedsheets had holes in them, the toilet leaked, the doorhandle fell off the dryer and the kitchen did not come with everything we had hoped for, such as a pair of scissors or sharp knives. The dishwasher also left a lot to be desired. The beds were only made once for us, and although we received clean towels, they did not bring facecloths. We made the best of it and had a wonderful time. The pool and activities were fun, as was shuffleboard and snorkelling just off the beach. This resort is close to shopping and downtown Lahaina. I would probably stay here again, however, I would try to make sure that I knew what I was getting with the unit. All in all, I found that the price did not reflect the value we received.

We stayed at the Papakea for nine glorious nights from Feb. 16th through the 25th. We had a remodeled one bedroom ocean view unit (called and requested it one week before we arrived). It was clean and comfortable. The resort is very quiet, but there is a grocery store and a few restaurants across the street. The location is convenient to both Ka' anapali and Front St. in Lahaina. I would recommend this resort to anyone who wants to relax in peace and quiet and avoid the overcrowded beach in Ka' anapali. There is no beach in front of the resort, but just a short walk away. We bought beach mats at the Star Market across the street and walked down the beach and snorkeled off the reef and watch the whales daily. If you want a peaceful break try the Papakea!!!

We booked through AA Vacations and stayed in C203. It was a very nice room. We had a king size bed in the room w/ a pull out sofa for the kids. There was an a/c unit that cooled the whole place and a view from the balcony of the ocean. We were very happy here no complaints at all. If you have a chance to stay here it's awesome.

Beach/pool towels are given, free newspaper each morning, newsweek magazine and close walking distance to a market, video store and Hula scoops the ice cream shop.

I have nothing but high regards for this place. Honestly I shouldn't be advertising our room because we will never have it available to us it was so wonderful! lol
