Thank you to Misty and Carly of Maui Dreams Come True for providing all the particulars for our stay, and Jim and Margaret for their beautiful Condo.
We stayed in 302B Papakea from February 4 to February 20 of this year. We had to write and thank you for the use of your gorgeous condo! The unit really turned out to be even beyond our expectations from the ad on the website! The unit itself offered everything we could need or wish for and more. We even found a garlic press! The dishes and wine glasses were perfect and the plastic wine glasses were great for around the barbecue.

The decor was so Hawaii and everything from furniture to bedding to washer & dryer was clean, attractive and beautifully functional! Although we spent little time indoors, cooking, sleeping, showering and even doing laundry were enjoyable and effortless. Since the Sochi Olympics were held during our time on Maui, we very much appreciated the large, high- definition TV. (We could turn it slightly to face the lanai) The furniture on the lanai was beautiful and comfortable. We spent a lot of time out there!

We particularly loved your ceramic flip-flop and combed the island shops to find one for ourselves. To no avail, however! All of the other ornaments and artwork were lovely.

Our view from the lanaii was spectacular! We saw whales spouting and jumping every morning from our lanai. During our beach walks, we were blessed with 2 monk seals -- one basking in the sun near Black Rock and one frolicking in the shallow waters on the beach. On one morning walk we counted 5 sea turtles near shore and saw several others during our stay. We experienced sun, cloud, wind, waves and calm waters. All of it was dreamy!

Having come to Maui on a "once in a lifetime" trip, we began planning how we could get back "to paradise" almost the first day we were there. We must return and certainly our experience in your condo unit contributed a great deal to that decision. We hope to be back in 302B within the next couple of years.

What a beautiful place! Ocean view, pool, in-suite laundry, great view, friendly and helpful staff, and met a lot of very nice people staying here as well. The resort is close to everything we needed - grocery store, beaches, restaurants, cafes, etc.

They had shuffle board, a putting green, and poolside BBQs. We had an incredible view of the ocean where we spotted humpback whales breaching throughout the day.

Will definitely return to this resort.

And our room was very clean and spacious - loved it!

Room Tip: Spending extra to get an ocean view is not really worth it - the views are all beautiful.

First of all, do NOT stay in Unit L-202. That was what ruined our 11 night stay! It is in very poor condition, especially all the cabinets and appliances. It is ocean front, but definitely not worth the price. Look everything over BEFORE you unpack and put your groceries away! That was our mistake! Management was responsive to our complaints, but this two-bedroom unit is not up to Aston standards, let alone ours. We booked online through Aston website, and everything sounded great. It wasn't. We found out Aston only manages about a third of the units, with others being rented privately or through other sources. Aston should not be renting this unit out to anyone until the owner does a complete upgrade!

The property itself is very attractive, nice pools and gardens, and is well-maintained. However be alert to the fact that there is no beach at this property; you have to walk down several yards to get to a swimming beach area. Parking is very difficult, and poorly lit at night. There is a grocery across the street, and an ABC close by. There is a restaurant at the condo property next to Papakea.

I love Hawaii, I love Maui. But I like to stay in nicely furnished, well-equipped and properly functioning accommodations. I will think twice before going back to Papakea.

Room Tip: Whichever setting you prefer, be sure to inspect the unit BEFORE you move into it.

Aloha,

I am never happy when a guest is not satisfied and I spoke with the guest and gave her a rate reduction. The unit is not up to Aston standards and we are making arrangements with the owner to take care of the issues in the condo. We are pulling it out of rental rotation as soon as possible for the upgrades.

We actually liked the resort, but the unit we were given was very dated. There were cabinets that looked like they were out of the 70's. The stove was rusted around the edge of the cook top, the doors of the old cheap veneer cabinets didn't always stay shut. The counters were plain white Formica straight out of the 60's/70's. It looked like everyone used it as a cutting board with slices all over it. The fridge had mold all along the door seal. There was some gross looking Ace bandage cold packs in the freezer, for what we don't know. There were some small bugs that kept appearing on the kitchen counter near the sink and I killed hundreds of them. They kept coming back. The walls throughout were textured, but not subtlety textured, more like huge chunks and bumps all over. The bathroom doors/molding had no finish left on them and there was dry rot. There was an old style mirror/medicine cabinet on one wall. The tile was cheap and plain. The toilet paper holder was so old the silver finish was falling off and it's attachment to the wall was loose. There were lots of mirrored walls, and sliding doors and many of the mirrors were starting to lose their reflective finish around the edges. No TV in the bedroom. I had to buy batteries for the TV remote, and for the clock on the kitchen wall. The patio had very old indoor/outdoor carpet that stayed wet the entire week. We traveled with 3 other couples and all of their rooms were far more modern, clean, and updated than ours. We also looked at many other units and didn't see one that was as old as this one. The other couples we were with each had two beach chairs as did we. Theirs were all modern, fairly new chairs, where ours was old, with those large diameter aluminum frames. The one I had broke when I sat on it. I complained at the lobby, but all they said is, that's too bad, but it's the owners issue, not theirs. I am upset that the units that are being managed by Aston are not kept to a minimum standard. If they don't keep them clean, modern and somewhat updated, they shouldn't rent them. We paid very good money for Ocean Front. This room was by far a rip off compared to all those around us and also the couples we came with.

The resort had two nice pools and two nice large hot tubs with crappy looking/stained concrete all around them. There is a covered area at each pool area. Good lawn chairs and loungers around the pool. Also loungers and chairs available on the lawn in front of the ocean. There is a sea wall of about 8 feet tall from the lawn down to the water. There is very little sand/beach in front of the resort, but if you head south, you can find real beach. There were a number of very nice BBQ's. Putting greens were okay, a little slow, but fun. Each room had washer/dryer which was very handy. With a reservation from Aston instead of directly through the owner, you can get towels for the pool and you get a paper every morning. There are some carts available to get your stuff from the car to the room (which can be quite a distance depending on which building and room you have). Sometimes they are hard to find. There were as many as 5 in front of our building at one time, but most of the time there were none. There is no bar or restaurant here, so you bring your own. There was a restaurant at the property next door that was also Aston and you could charge it to your room, and you got a 10% discount. It was just OK. Parking could be difficult if you come back from a night out. Usually can find parking, just not necessarily as close as you would like. They keep the gardens and grounds very nice. There are Koi ponds with some very large fish. Not much in the lobby except an ATM, front desk, and the Expedia kiosk for trying to sign you up for any activities during your stay.

Just through the parking lot you can exit through a gate that takes you to an ABC store. It has a lot of quick stuff. There is a Times Grocery store (very large and full service) just a block or two away and within walking distance.

Overall we tried to ignore the old dated, disgusting room we had and enjoyed ourselves. I guess if you give me a glass of wine or scotch, sun, golf, and a pool, I can be happy even though I felt like I was staying in someone's old cabin they had built in the 1960's. The only thing new in this unit were a few framed paintings and pictures on the wall that had 2011 dates on them.

Just before we left we heard that Aston had just sold to some other property management company. The maid's and employees didn't know what that would mean yet.

Room Tip: Don't pick F-109. A-307 was one that another couple we traveled with had. It was amazing. I...

Aloha,

I am again not happy when we have an unhappy guest, I have gone to look at the unit and have arranged with the owner to have it updated right away. Aston does have standards and sometimes we miss one but I assure you we are correcting the issues in this condo.

My husband and I stayed in C-402 for nine days in February. While the condo owner had done some things to update the unit, it was still a far cry from good. Most of the furniture looks like it could be original to the unit and needs to be replaced, and the bathroom needs a significant redo. The owner indicates that she plans to work on this, but I would see what has been done before renting again, and it didn't help us with our stay. On the positive side, the ocean view from the couch and lanai is beautiful, even though it is a ways off. The waterfall masks most pool noise. The grounds were beautiful. The unit was clean and the kitchen well equipped. We had no one above us and high ceilings, a condo that could have handled a family of 4 or 5 except for the one small bathroom. Other issues--Sometimes we had neighbors who talked loudly on their lanais. Since there is no beach, if you want to be on a beach or swim, it is better to drive to Fleming beach or another beach. This owner also has other units in this and other resorts. I wonder if the decor issues are only with this unit or with others as well. If we had booked through the Aston, we might have been able to switch to another unit, and I feel quite certain the rental units would have been more to our taste. This complex is mostly older people and the noise of younger people was definitely not appreciated.

Room Tip: Book with the Aston. A room in A building would likely have fewer noise issues and a fantastic view.

Our stay at the papakea was amazing. this was our first time back to hawaii in ten years. We brought our two kids with us as well. the papakea had everything we needed. The papapkea had two pools along with beachside access. Very short walking distance to the grocery store and shopping. Our unit was stocked with everything we needed to cook along with a washer/dryer and plenty of towels. We will definitely be staying at the papakea for our next hawaiian vacation.

We ended up staying here for one night after staying at the Hyatt Regency for 6 days because there was a great deal. But after staying at the Hyatt, we just got a bit too spoiled. The pool(s) weren't as nice as there was barely any shade and it was freezing! No beach and had to walk about 5 minutes to the next resort for a decent beach. It's far away from the shops, our teenage girls had to be dropped off at Whaler's Village/Kaanapali Beach to get away from the retirement home feeling . However, the condo was nice and upgraded. There was cigarette smell lurking in the kitchen (so weird). Gardens and ponds were nice. Location and the environment just wasn't for us personally.
