My husband and I just returned from 5 days in Maui. We loved the location of this property and the beach was beautiful-just a few steps from the pool area. There is a great restaurant on the property as well-the Castaway-the staff is very friendly and the food is good.
Our only gripe is that we made the mistake of getting a hotel room instead of a condo. This was the first time we stayed in Hawaii and did not have a lanai!! We were disappointed and tried to change rooms, but none were available. The room was OK, but nothing wonderful.
The hotel has a nice lobby and a large room to read and use the computer, as well as a small "general store" for snacks and small items.
When we discovered that our shower wasn't working well, the staff had it repaired within no time! We were impressed with that!
Overall, we liked the property, the location, and the staff-but would not recommend a hotel room unless you can get a lanai!

Located on a great, uncrowded swimming beach and near a surprisingly good and what appeared to be an unknown snorkeling beach, this property proved a great place to stay for my first visit to Maui last April. The privately owned condo we stayed in was immaculate and featured a full well stocked kitchen. The maid service (sparked by a little first day gratuity) was very good.

The beach in front of the resort was coral free and was excellent for swimming, sunbathing and relaxing. A couple hundred yards south lies the famous Black Rock snorkeling area but just 50 or so yards to the north is some coral formations that provide a very easy snorkeling sight that's home to more than a few sea turtles and a wide variety of fish.

The on-site restaurant "Castaway Cafe" had good food at a little above average prices but truly excellent service. Try sitting at it's poolside bar (full menu) at sunset for some great views while eating. Make friends with the bartender and then count on good service at each visit. Other eating out options can be found at Whaler's Village about a 5 minute drive south. Another 10 minutes down is Front Street. Both locations are full of shops, restaurants and tourists.

The only drawbacks to our stay were the "nickel & dime" fees ($100.00 + in phone fees, parking and in-room safe access for a 7 day stay) and a typically overpiced gift/sundry shop. Also the landscaping was somewhat less spectacular than I saw at pricier resorts. The resort itself sits in midst of a seemingly endless string of other resorts, hotels and retail establishments. You'll need to drive bit to see the true Maui. Also, don't assume ocean side or ocean view means you'll have the waves lapping at your lanai. Count on just a glimpse of the ocean from most of the units. But these were minor flaws in an otherwise wonderful week. Also, don't count

We just returned from Maui. The weather turned around for the better and we had a fantastic time on the Island and at the resort. It suited our needs - the condo was well equipped and a perfect size. The location cannot be beat, this is the best beach on the Island by far! When the sun hits the water it is a beauiful aquamarine color and crystal clear and warm. It is very difficult to leave the water. The staff and Manager were very friendly and the Castaway Cafe had awesome meals for a reasonable price. We are very happy we chose this resort for our first trip to Maui and we will be back. By the way, we have been to many different five star resorts in Mexico and all over the Caribbean - Maui had something none of these places had. It was the most beautiful place we have ever been. Enjoy every minute of it!!!

I selected this hotel based on the reviews on this website. I was quite disappointed as the room we were given had not been vacuumed (very dusty as i was coughing), the fridge was obnoxiously noisy, decor (60s/70s era?)/general cleanliness were sub-par. The maid did not replenish our coffee/tea supply for the full 5 days we stayed there. I would only recommend staying here if you absolutely do not spend too much time in the room other than to sleep. It is still over-priced for what they offer. If you do stay, I would imagine that the actual villas are much nicer than the 'hotel rooms'. The only plus to staying here is really the location. It is situated on kaanapali beach, rated the #1 beach on maui and is never crowded. I think it should be downgraded to a 2-star hotel, rather than the 3.5 it has been given.

We have just returned from a week long vacation at Kaanapali Villas in Maui. We planned this vacation in celebration of our 17 year anniversary. I was not sure what to expect at the Kaanapali Villas. All I knew was that KV had a great beach and was close to The Whalers Village. After checking in on a Saturday, we realized our 1 bedroom unit had two beds. We had requested a 1 bedroom with one King size bed, since my husband is so tall (6'4). We quickly brought it to the front desks attention. They told us that they had nothing availabe for a few days. We got the feeling that they were not too concerned and they never apologized or tried to do anything to make things better for us. On Monday, they called us back and said they would have a room for us on Tuesday. So we waited to hear from them... they never called!! After several more calls back and forth, Thursday came around and we were offered yet another room. At that point, it really didn't matter, we were so used to sleeping like Lucy and Desie! Poor Customer service, I will never go back.
