I first stayed at Kaanapali Villas around 1995 and loved the location. Right on a spectacular beach.
This resort has plenty of amenities with a nice pool, oceanside licensed restaurant and beach rental shack.

We had a unit in the Dolphin building on the 2nd floor. Loved the pool and ocean view location and I recall the unit had a remote control for the drapes and the stereo, which we thought was pretty cool.

Recently, my husband and I stayed in unit 285 which is right across from the unit I stayed at in the Dolphin.
We actually liked this exposure better as you didn't have blistering hot afternoon sun on the lanai.
The unit is a studio and has had recent upgrades to kitchen and bathroom. The unit is fully furnished and has all the kitchen appliances and utensils that one would need.

I would highly recommend Kaanapali Villas to anyone looking for accommodation in this side of Maui. We noticed that the grounds were very clean and tidy.Very convenient to all the shopping, etc. on this side of the island. Having the restaurant on site was very handy. They also had a small convenience store off the lobby. One late afternoon they were offering free mai tai's and popcorn off the lobby.

Room Tip: I like rooms that overlook the pool or ocean.

We loved the Kaanapali Villas. We were on the second floor of the bungalow buildings and overlooked the quiet pool. Our studio suite was just perfect....full kitchen with everything we needed. Lovely huge lanai allowed us to sit out every morning and evening and enjoy the birds. Beach is very close and we walked it daily. Perhaps not as new and flashy as some of the condos that surround the area, but very clean and adequate. Rooms seemed to be updated although I believe they are individually owned so maybe the upgrades depend upon the owners preferences. I would suggest it to anyone. There were 2 pools...one that was larger and seemed to attract the families and then the other that was much quieter and very peaceful to lay by and soak up the rays! The Villas are close to grocery shopping and the main highway. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: The buildings farthest from the beach and the 'main' pool will be quietest. We loved the 2 story buildings.

My husband and I wanted to get away for Thanksgiving vacation and had never been to Maui, let alone Hawaii so we weren't sure what island to pick, let alone where and after much research we are glad we picked Kaanapali area. Our travel style varies but in general we are use to nice modern accommodations with a mellow vibe but try to stay budget friendly with outdoor activities near, especially snorkeling - this place fit that bill perfectly. So Maui Kaanapali Resort Villas were a good choice for us. Our room was modest/clean/nice with a fridge/tub/bath/flatscreen&cable/closets/two lanais and we booked directly through the condo owner on vrbo.com. It wasn't high end but we loved that owners kept beach chairs/boogieboards/coolers and other beach necessities in the condo for its guests :) The room and resort itself is a bit outdated but not disgusting in the least. We were disappointed that the Castaway Cafe/bar was closed for most of our vacation- I really enjoyed their happy hour drinks- yummy Lava flow! :) The pool was smaller than other resorts but really cute/fun with its waterfall bridge and there was a second pool area that was a nice too.
Location wise this place IS great! I think it was about an hour from airport (traffic can be a bit annoying) and although the area can be a bit windy, it wasn't bothersome. The atmosphere here was mellow, guests were friendly and not really annoying or big partying bothers, so thats nice when you need some R&R. The beach was lovely and the resort is right next door to the Westin Villas(which seemed really lovely), they share a driveway/road entrance. There is a nice boardwalk to walk up and down the shoreline between resorts. Blackrock beach was a bit of a nightmare and Im glad we didn't pick to stay at the Sheraton because it was just insanely busy and I did not enjoy the snorkeling around there because there are a 1000 people smashing into you and you have to watch for people jumping on you! Also I wasn't too keen on the whole whaler's village area, which seemed like a giant shopping mall rather than a resort complex at the beach.
Favorite bits about Maui Kaanapali Villas: We loved just walking out to the beach in front of our condo or down the beach in front of the Westin, much less crowded than blackrock and the snorkeling was fantastic! There is a reef area that you can explore close to shore or far out and you will be sure to see lots of corals, schools of fish, turtles, etc. Further north we really enjoyed Duke's restaurant and the HONUA KAI RESORT & SPA, would maybe look into staying there next time if we go back to Kaanapali area. There is excellent surfing up in that area around Honolua bay.

Wailea area of Maui was more of what I thought the island would be like. Its where all the high end resorts area but they are high up on a bluff, so you don't have quick/easy access to the ocean. Also the spots to snorkel are limited down there although you are close to Turtletown.

All and all I would stay here again because I think its a good deal in a great area.

MKV Unit 188 is the perfect location, charming decor, very clean, it is everything a Hawaiian vacation spot should be. Beautiful sandy beach, manicured grounds, friendly staff, near the lovely pool, and with beautiful sunsets. Easy walk along the boardwalk to Whalers Village and great restaurants. the Castaway Restaurant on site right on the beach was delicious with great service. Whale watching, snorkeling and golf, all near by, It was a wonderful January week, all we had hoped for. We will be back for sure and will request unit 188 again.

Room Tip: Unit 188 is the perfect location

This condo resort lived up to its promise. Our apartment was large, well furnished, and excellently equipped with a full kitchen. The service was prompt, and the staff was very helpful. This was our fifth or sixth visit to Hawaii, and we will definitely consider returning to this resort.
