We stayed at the AKS April 20-26 and upgraded to the Aloha Suite room 802. The price was worth it! Breathtaking views, huge wrap around lani! It was amazing!!

The room was another story. Sadly, this was not an upgraded unit. It was stuck in the 1980's, kitchen and bathrooms need to be updated. The master bathroom had a 2x2 inch hole in the tile (with hair and fabric sticking to it) The down blanket had blood on it. The carpet was filthy.

Yes, I am very forgiving, after all it is a beach hotel. I came knowing that we might get an older unit in the Aloha Suites and it was a trade off for the view/lani.

The location is great, all the amenities you could need. Staff was kind and accomadating. Beach infront of hotel is rocky and water is dangerous. A 10 min stroll towards black rock is a nice beach with calm water and family friendly enviroment. Great walking path that starts infront of Honua Kai resort. Dukes at Honua Kai has the best bananna-mac pancakes! A great menu and wonderful view.

Just be sure to ask if you are in an updated room!!!

Aloha. We were so very glad to hear that this party enjoyed the view from what is arguably the nicest, most oceanfront view in Kaanapali. Having said that, we were sorry to read of the unit condition issues. We are pleased to share that this unit is scheduled for renovation next month. Our expectation is that the beauty and magnificence of the views will soon be matched by the luxurious comforts inside.

I was interested to read of the recommendation of Duke's, as our own Beach Club restaurant is a favorite in the area, with great food, service and boasting twice the number of selections at equal or better pricing.

Mahalo.

The hotel and area are fantastic. The hotel staff are unbelievable. This trip was amazing until one early afternoon my boyfriend and father were snorkeling out front of the hotel. There is a riptide that pulled my boyfriend who is 20 out into the sea. There were rescue teams for 3 days searching and he wasn't found; neither was his snorkel. Aston Hotels Kaanapali Shores were so helpful to us. They brought us everything we needed while sitting on the beach waiting for the return of our loved one. They also provided food and drinks to the rescue teams. After the last day of the search they helped us put together a beautiful memorial on the beach in front of the riptide. It is so heart breaking that we lost him in such a beautiful place and at such a young age but we are very thankful for the efforts put in by the hotel staff and the rescuers. THANK YOU! I would recommend this hotel to anyone! I do though suggest swimming with a flotation device; no matter how old you are a flotation device can save your life!

We stayed in an oceanview 2 bedroom/2 bathroom unit for 5 nights over spring break. While the property was at capacity, we never felt it was too crowded. At times there were not five pool loungers for our family, but that was okay. This is a great property for the money, our unit had been renovated and had a well equipped kitchen and offered much more space and comfort than we would have had booking two hotel rooms elsewhere. Our only disappointment was the beach being so narrow and without an area to sit directly in the sand on the beach. We walked about 10-15 mins left of the resort to a better beach and snorkeling area, however you just had to sit on your towels. The staff was great! We opted to shop at Safeway (about a 5 min drive) instead of the grocery store across the street. $9 a day to park and $10 a day to use the gym was an add on, but we knew in advance, I could see where some people would be upset. The Expedia orientation breakfast was informative, but I would do your homework before booking their excursions, there are other savings and options to be had in town. The pool restaurant has resort prices, but food quality is good. Overall, we were very pleased and would return.

We were very impressed with this resort. It had all the ammenities you needed. We own a timeshare at the Maui Marriott and this resort really did compare. It may not have had the massive swimming pool but as far as the rest ot it well worth the money. Not to mention the location was nice. Easy trip to Kapalua or Whalers village. We would stay again anytime.

we just returned from a great vacation @ Ka'anapali Shores. we rented a 2 bdroom 2bath condo. staying in a condo with kids is the perfect way to go. This was so roomy and in great condition. The kitchen has just the basics, but we managed just fine. All of the hotel staff was very friendly, the lobby is beautiful and so are the grounds.this is a great place to stay with kids-2 pools to pick from and a huge grassy area to play ball on. the down side is the beach right out in front of the hotel is very rocky and extremely rough ocean. so long story short, i would definetly reccommend this hotel if you have kids and you don't mind walking or driving to a safer/nicer beach. if you are looking for a quiet resort and excellent beach you may want to stay elsewhere. i hope you find this helpful! ALOHA

We stayed at this hotel in April, with our two teenagers. The hotel was recommended by a travel agent, when we were initially looking in Lahaina. It is a relatively short drive from/to Lahaina. We were looking for something that would be beach friendly for the kids.

The hotel is situated right on the beach, and the views are incredible. The lobby area is very pretty, and the staff were very nice. We had a "garden view" one-bedroom on the seventh floor, which also looked straight out over the ocean. The sunsets were beautiful. The room was clean. My husband and I slept in the bedroom, while the kids had the couch in the living room area. The bedroom was right against the walkway, and we could hear everything and everyone who went by. Also, the pillows were extremely uncomfortable, as they were the little square pillows as opposed to standard size.

A good portion of the resorts are in Ka'anapli. The beach area in front of our hotel was beautiful, but the water was a little too rough and rocky to go snorkeling. Also, it seems because the Ka'anapali area is a bit more northerly, it gets more rain than the areas that are farther south. At least it did in April when we were at the hotel.

The hotel has a fitness center, which actually looked quite nice. However, an additional fee of $10/per day/per person seemed rather ridiculous on top of the room rate. Also, the hotel does charge for parking, per day. It just seemed like a way to nickel and dime guests.

Overall, the hotel was beautiful, the staff was wonderful, the hotel restaurant's food was good (we ate breakfast there several times). However, for a family with active kids, the location was a little farther removed than we would have preferred.
