Stayed in one of the ocean view condos. Nice living room, kitchenette, everything we needed. We knew about pay to park and the prices in the restaurant, but no worse than the rest of Maui. We did the couples massage, and the activity desk got us a great deal with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. Two pools, two whirlpools, nice beach with lounge chairs with sunshade.

Stayed from Jan 18, leaving tomorrow morning the 22nd. Didn't quite know what to expect. When we arrived they had us in Room 148. Absolutely gorgeous remodel, complete with stainless appliances, granite, new cabinets, tile floor, etc. Husband wondered if something up a few floors was available. Staff happily allowed us to look at room 333, explaining it wasn't updated, but we could have it if we wanted. Both rooms were garden view. This second room allowed up to leave the slider open all night and catch the wonderful breeze, and the lovely sound of the waterfall! While it was outdated, it was spotless and more than served. Plus it had a flat screen TV in the front room...not that it got much use. But you know, eventually it does get dark, even in Maui. The restaurant is one of the terrific buys, when you eat at a few places in Maui, you'll understand and the food it quite good. Grounds are spotless. Staff very pleasant and responsive. We absolutely will use this place as our base when in Maui. But it is family friendly and if kids bug you, don't come here. The beach may not be primo by snorkel standards, but gee its a very short drive to many that are.

Everything went perfect during our stay at the Kaanapali Shores.

ROOM: We had a great view of the ocean and the island Lana'i. The rooms were nicely decorated and furnished. The Lanai had a table, two chairs and a lounge chair. There were two televisions with cable TV. The Kitchen had all the necessary appliances including a dishwasher, a microwave and utensils. Our room even had a washer and dryer.

SERVICE: All of the employees were pleasant and responsive to our requests. The housekeeping thoroughly cleaned the rooms everyday. There is an activities desk and and a Pleasant Holidays desk on the grounds to reserve activities.

LOCATION: Right on the beach. It is located close to Lahaina, Kaapalua, and other hotels in Kaanapali Beach. It is also not too far from Maalaea Bay. There is a small mall across the street. The mall had a 24 hour grocery store, pizza, Mexican Restaurant, and a jazz bar. Everything seemed so close. Driving around Maui was not a problem. It was relaxing not being in the middle of the action.

HOTEL: There are two stores on the site, a real estate company, day spa, and exercise room. Again, everything downstairs was nicely decorated. The parking in and out was very convenient.

GROUNDS: The entire grounds of the Kaanapali Shores were immaculately manicured. The garden area is beautiful. There are two pools, however, one pool was closed for maintenance.

DINING: There is coffee bar that sells coffee and a few danishes. The other restaurant is near the beach. We had a tasty dinner with a great view of the ocean.

I will plan on staying at the Kaanapali Shores when I return to Maui.

Lovely 1 bedroom condo on the 5th floor overlooking the beach, ocean, pool and garden. Very clean and quiet. Super market accross the street.
Close to Lahaina for shopping and restaurants.
All amenities needed were there.
Would return any time.

My husband and I took our first trip to Maui with our young children ages 10 and 12 over our Christmas break. This was to celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary and also a surprise for our children for Christmas. I have to say that upon arrival we were quite pleased with the hotel. The hotel itself is very well maintained with beautiful landscaping. We chose a single room which included a bedroom with a queen size bed, full size kitchen with dishwasher and refrigerator, sofa bed, dining room table and a washing machine and dryer. The room was updated and very well kept with granite countertops and new appliances. The decorations were very tropical and pretty. Our room(#841) overlooked the garden and pool area which was beautiful although a bit noisy in the morning with the birds chirping. It was nice to sit on the lanai in the morning before we got our day started. I believe that no matter what type of room you get you are guaranteed a beautiful view. My husband loved the view of the hills and valleys across the street from the hotel. There are two pools at the hotel and they were both very nice. A short walk from the garden area and you are on the beach. Very nice beach, not crowded at all and there were plenty of lounge chairs available for relaxing. As other people have said there is a nice store across the street to stock up on groceries and also the sundry in the hotel had all the supplies you could need as well. The staff were very friendly and helpful and there was a very nice security guard named Mike that helped us out alot with our questions about the area. Overall I would recommend this hotel. You can't beat the price and quality. I would also recommend a car. There are alot of places to see and alot of things to do on Maui and it is alot easier with a car.

We made a spontaneous decision to go to Maui for the after Christmas holidays. I had stayed years ago at the Kaanapali Beach hotel on the south side of black rock, then called the Kaanapali Shores. I assumed it was still called the same and booked a week for my family. After sending in the deposit I was informed that the Kaanapali Shores is now a condo located north of black rock on a substandard beach, full of rocks and coral and completely unsuited to swimming or boogie boarding. Since we had committed 2 nights deposit at the Kaanapali Shores, we arrived there prepared to have a good time. The resort is relaxed, with little kids teeming from every angle. The main pool is good., no waterfalls or slides, but well kept. Our condo was a two bedroom condo with a beautiful kitchen, and two bedrooms. The beds felt like glorified army cots. Very HARD. There is a supermarket 2 minutes walk across the street from the hotel, as well as a fantastic pizza place and subway, so you dont need a car . The staff were friendly. Here is the only negative : I left my diamond and gold necklace in the room safe for the entire stay. The day we left my husband opened the safe and took out the money, but inadvertently left the necklace in the safe. We left the room, with the safe unlocked as requested. Upon our arrival at the Westin Kaanapali Resort, we realized that the necklace was still in the safe. We called the Aston and they called housekeeping, who reported that NOTHING was in the safe. I later spoke with Kim, the manager of the property, who went to our room to personally check out the safe. By that time it was empty. I filed a police report with Lahaina Police, who basically told me I would never get my necklace back...I hate so say this, because I am a social worker, and a democrat, but the only people in our room after my husband and I was the housekeeping staff...room 613. I guess the lesson here is to NEVER bring valuable jewelry to the island...buy their 6.99 shell necklaces instead...

We were pleased to learn that these guests enjoyed their experience for the most part, but were disappointed to learn of their situation involving their valuables. Our suites feature electronic locks which track every movement into a guest suite. Our employees are well aware of this, and know that any investigation would track right back to them. We have no history of these types of issues at all at this resort. There have been reports made, but they have been followed by calls or emails from the guests apologizing and advising that upon returning home they found the missing items, or someone else in their party had them and neglected to inform the others that they packed them, etc. We hope this will be the result in this case as well. Mahalo.

My husband and I just got back from our Honeymoon in Maui and this hotel really was brilliant!! The staff are really helpful and friendly, the rooms are great with really comfortable beds, good facilities etc. The beach is gorgeous and not very busy at all, with free sun loungers provided. The restauraunt in the hotel is really good quality, although doesn't have very much variety for vegetarians, but is affordable. There are a few shops in the hotel which is very useful, and a supermarket across the street and petrol station practically next door.

The parking is $9 a day, which for hawaii is quite reasonable, and there are lots of spaces. You really do need a rental car to get around the island as I don't think there is any public transport, but if you are planning on basing yourself at the hotel, you will be fine without one. It is about 40 mins for the main airport (kahului)and our taxi cost about $95. There is a shuttle that you can book as well which is sligtly cheaper.

There is really nothing I can say to fault this hotel, it really was amazing value with brilliant service - the perfect place to stay in Maui!!
