"10 Stars" - Can't say enough about the Shores. Six of us (4 grown kids) stayed from Aug 31st through Sept 6th and LOVED every minute. We had a 2 bd/2 bath oceanfront that was spectacular and worth every penny. Rainbows outside our lanai, no noise, beautiful grounds/pool and the restaurant was great. Location is wonderful, close to everything. Let's not forget the Staff . . thanks to Ms. Tanner, Kula and too many others to mention. We ALL felt like Royalty. Will definitely see you again soon. Mahalo.

My husband and I just returned from 5 days at Kaanapali Shores. We went with some trepidation based on the reviews on this site, but were pleasantly surprised. We are comfortable recommending it to others.

First off, if you are looking for a Four Seasons experience or a posh Marriott/Sheraton/Westin, you should spend the money and go to one of those resorts in Wailea, Kapalua, or south Kaanapali. The area of Kaanapali beach south of Black Rock has a series of lovely resorts along the beach with Whaler's Village in the mix. The Kaanapali Shores, like the Embassy Vacation Club, is on the other side of Black Rock, also directly on the beach, but without the long beachwalk and nightlife. It is quieter and more devoted to timeshare resorts and condo/vacation apartments. This 'feel' goes north up the coast through Napili and Kohana. For families and those looking for more quiet, it may be just right. We found the location to be good, with only a three minute drive to Kaanapalis (plenty of parking at Whalers' Village) and a 10 minute drive to Lahaina.

Kaanapali Shores is directly on the beach. It is "U" shaped with lovely and well-kept gardens in the "U". There are two pools, each with a hot tub next to it. The pools are very comfortable, but are your basic pool rather than an elaborate water park-style pool that you will find at more expensive resorts. There was a restaurant, gift shop, sundries shop, and activity desks on site. Across the street from the entrance was a very convenient stip mall with a few restaurants, including an excellent java joint/jazz club, Maui Divers, and a market.

We were in a one bedroom unit that had a kitchen, one bathroom, living area, balcony, washer/dryer. Good ocean views from many units, which did not seem to be the case with some of the other nearby resorts. Our unit was nicely updated and spotless. Most units seem to been updated with just a few scattered units in process. No construction noise. Most units have partial ocean views, but some have spectacular views and are right on the beach. Those directly on the beach, two bedroom units mostly, were spectacular: units ending in 01-06. Again, these units have the feeling of an simple condo rather than a plush resort -- but hey, a good, updated kitchen and a washer/dryer? Great to have.

We got an excellent package deal, which left plenty of money for dinners, tours, and shopping in contrast to the more plush resorts' 'hurt me' prices. Most of the resorts in the area with similar prices were much less desirable: not updated, not on the beach, not offering the gardens and pool. The restaurant, which wasn't excellent, was still offering the $100 promotion mentioned by other reviewers, and we took their advice to spend most of it at the bar. Perfect.

So, if money is not an object or if you are looking for a honeymoon resort, you may want to go to a more expansive and plush resort. But if Maui prices are a problem -- this is an excellent budget alternative.

When we arrived it was dinner time, so we headed to the beautiful open air dining room which had a spectacular view of the ocean. The meal and drinks were fantasitic, as was the live music and beautiful sunset. The service in all aspects was top notch. We retreated to our room to again be amazed by the view that we had from our lanai. The decor of the room was perfect. We would highly recommend Kanapali Shores for both its service and outstanding setting.

Stayed at the Kaanapali Shores from August 5th through August 8th. I was on Maui to participate in the Hawaiian Canoe Racing Championships regatta which was held at Hanako'o Beach in Lahaina. Arrived at the hotel quite late in the evening from the airport. The front desk personnel was very pleasant and accommodating. Got to our room, WOW, very impressed...it was gorgeous. It was a two bedroom, two bath condo unit, with a queen size pull out sofa bed in the living room and also with a loft. There was a full kitchen and also a washer and dryer. This unit could have very well accommodated 8 people very comfortably. From the balcony, we could see the two pools and also a partial view of the ocean. Pool side was very relaxing...no problems getting lounging chairs. Hotel was close to a market right across the street and close to Whaler's Village, where they were having the Maui Onion Festival. Would love to stay at the Kaanapali Shores again. Mahalo.

My husband and I we so looking forward to our trip to Hawaii, but when we checked into our room our excitement went out the window. The room was a "studio" with bed and fold out sofa. The bathroom was too small and very outdated. We had stayed at other resorts in Hawaii and were expecting the same luxury we had experienced at those resorts. Not so here. The pools were very small and unexciting, the beach very small and there was a runoff canal right next to the resort that emptied dirty water into the ocean where kids were swimming. We were hungry from the trip and went to the resort restaurant for lunch and I had to send my fish sandwich back. I was so looking forward to fresh fish in Hawaii.
My husband and I went next door tho the Embasy Resort and lucky they had a beautiful room for us for the rest of our vacation. Had we not been able to get a diffrent hotel our vacation would not have been as nice. Thank you Embassy Resorts

I was a bit reluctant to choose aston kaanapali shores because there were mixed reviews. Most said it was great but a few complained. I did not know what to expect, but sure enough it was absolutely wonderful when we got there! It is lovely and well kept with a terrific atmosphere. When you walk in there is a gorgeous water fall and such a excellent decor. It looks just like the pictures! We just got back and i can't stop missing it already. The whole lobby is breezy because they have open areas without doors. Although they give you a free $100 to use for the restaurant i thought the food was not so great so i would recomend using it on drinks while you are by the pool. It is more worth it. Lahina town and Whaler's village are also extremely close by and are fantasic places to shop. I think renting a car is the only way to really get around. By driving yourself the experience is much easier and stress free. My favorite activities were the luau (so cool!) and taking a dinner cruise. I was not fond of the drive to hana but i am not a big fan of rain forests. I prefered hanging out at our cando since we had a awsome garden view from our balcony! I think the room was very nice and the garden view is just as good as ocean view. The sevice was really good too. The room was cleaned daily and we always had clean towels delivered to us. Although we did see a big spider once, but never again after that. So all in all i would love to go back to maui next year and stay at the aston kaanapali shores too! That place is just like home!

We spent only 2 nights at the AKS. Then we moved down to the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel. What a mistake. The AKS was so much nicer. The grounds were beautiful. The restaurant served great food. The pool water was warm. We loved our condo/room. At night the grounds were all lit up and really welcoming to the guests. The lobby was beautiful. The beach chairs were free, but, yes, the beach wasn't the best on the strip. It was rocky and had seaweed on it. We're movers and shakers and only used the beach for a couple of hours at a time, so we were more interested in the room. We expect to get a lot for our money and we did. I would highly recommend this resort to people who don't want to wake up and sit on the same beach for a whole week. The place is great, but there's a ton of beautiful things to see just a short drive away.
