“One of our favorite spots”

We travel to Maui a few times each year and since staying at Kaanapali Shores originally, have always come back there. The staff is friendly and some of them remember us by name. The rooms are spacious, kept well and provide exactly what we need when traveling with family (love the washer and dryer in the unit). We ate at the restaurant this trip and it was good, but we mostly use the kitchen for our meals. The resort looks good in general. The outdoor areas are pretty and filled with flowers and tropical trees and such. The pools aren’t what you’d find in a mega-resort, but they satisfied our need and were just ok. This trip we had some folks above us that were quite noisy. This is the first time this was an issue. We could hear furniture moving at all hours it seemed. This was a bummer! Overall another great trip and we will be back!

Room Tip: Top floors may be best, less noise.

My husband and I spent 4 nights in a studio condo at the Aston Kaanapali. To be quite honest, I was quite apprehensive about staying here after reading other reviews and looking at the K.Shores website but the price was right so I figured we'd give it a try. The Aston Kaanapali Shores definitely exceeded my expectations!! First, you need to remember this is not a resort but a condo building so it doesn't have all the amenities a four or five star resort however, it does offer a lot. My husband and I received a condo on the top floor and the views were beautiful. There are unobstructed views of the sunset over the ocean if you are on a higher floor and you are able to see the Island of Lanai in the background. The condo was clean and homey feeling. All the units also have a lanai, which made for great mornings sipping coffee and even better evenings watching the sunset. There is a restaurant onsite, which was good and serves all meals. There are also two pools, one with a view of the ocean and the other is set farther back and is quieter. There is also a sandy beach out front with snorkel/swimmer friendly waters. There is a grocery store within walking distance and we were able to make breakfast and lunch in our condo, which was much needed after spending a week prior in hotels.
Also shout out to Nestor, from the activities desk, who helped me a ton prior to our arrival in setting up golf tee times and snorkeling activities.
Overall, the Aston Kaanapali Shores was a great place to stay in Lahaina!

Room Tip: Request a higher floor, as we did, and have perfect views of the sunset every evening!

Great short stay here, the grounds and pool area are lovely. Right on the beach and there's a supermarket across the road for anyone staying in a unit (and a great pizza spot too). Surf spot just off the front for beginners and epic snorkeling a few miles North.

Reception was friendly/informative, we were upgraded to a suite with a great view - rooms are really clean/spacious. Really quiet which is something different for Maui!

Had breakfast here too - eggs Benedict and pancakes, both good with a very friendly waiter.

Will come back again.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool could be on the noisier side.

Great hotel! The rooms are condos....full kitchen, washer dryer on each floor. Our view of the mountains & oceans are breath taking.

Our room was kept clean. We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel lobby is gorgeous. The Aston feels like a boutique hotel. We were checked in several hours early with no hassle. The beach is literally at the side door of the property. Nice pool and Jacuzzi.

We stayed here for a week. Like others mentioned, some of the furnishings were dated, but the beds were comfortable enough, and the two-bedroom, two-bath condo-suite had just about everything we needed. There was a washer-dryer in the unit and daily cleaning service. The front desk staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating.

The resort grounds were lovely, there were many amenities, including some on-site shops, a small restaurant/bar, a salon and spa, free DVD rentals, two pools and hot tubs, and concierge services. The beach was very nice there, never overly crowded, and there were chaises for use and complimentary beach towels, too. The location was near to shopping and the Lahaina strip, other nice beaches and afforded a perfect view of to-die-for sunsets.

On the down-side, the large population of Mynah birds were noisy just before dark and they resumed their chatter at first light, but it didn't dampen our stay. I think earplugs could easily address that inconvenience. There is also a $15 per day resort fee (per room) in addition to a $9 parking fee per day, which we hadn't anticipated, so that added up to an additional $150 out of pocket.

Nevertheless, we found this a very good value. We all felt pampered and comfortable there and really didn't want to go home, so I think that says something.

Room Tip: End units private and quiet.

My wife and I were on a vacation to Maui for our first time. Our friends suggested we go to the Aston because that's where they stayed. They said their hotel room wasn't anything special, but that they didn't stay inside long, so it didn't bother them for the price paid.

Although I agree that it was a low price, I feel like I paid too much as our room didn't have air conditioning. It only was in working condition for 2 of the 7 nights we stayed there.

The staff was friendly and responsive to this issue. They didn't get us a discount for having paid 5 nights with no air conditioning however. I also emailed the hotel regarding our stay having the a/c out. I received NO reply in response to feeling ripped off.

Another part of this hotel was that when we arrived back from Warren and Annabelle's magic show around midnight, we witnessed someone trying to rob a vehicle in the parking garage of this hotel. Although security was on staff, it didn't do much! We were a bit shaken up and after that, we only parked next to the doors entering the hotel, rather than the darker corners of the parking garage where people could apparently climb up to break into vehicles. We never heard of anything after telling the security guard about it. I feel like their parking garages should be more closely monitored and they should have better lighting. So security didn't feel so great after that. Our maid service left our patio doors unlocked one day, which really made us mad because apparently theft happens.

Just know that if you were to go to this hotel, it's not going to be a phenomenal room or security. You get what you pay for. The price is what the hotel goes off of. I thought the staff was friendly enough, but honestly, if you're going to spend the money to go to Hawaii, spend an extra little bit and go to a nicer establishment. Just do it.

Room Tip: Get a balcony facing the garden to avoid theft. Park next to the doors headed into the hotel to avoi...

We thank these visitors for sharing their experience and apologize that they experienced issues with their air conditioning. In our efforts to help conserve our resources, our resort has an energy management system in place that is programmed to shut off the A/C when the unit is not occupied or when patio doors are left open. We'll certainly look into why the system didn't function properly if that was the case.

With respect to the comments about the parking lot and general security, resorts in Hawaii in general, unlike some mainland destinations, are open-air by design. As a resort in a resort area on Maui, we have a very good record of security with very few security issues occurring here. Though we're sorry they felt that way, the insecurity that these visitors speak of having experienced during their visit was neither typical nor warranted (based upon our track record). While our room rates are certainly a good value, we would not categorize our accommodations as "cheap" in terms of their condition. They are clean, contemporary and spacious, which is what most visitors are looking for in a vacation accommodation.

Mahalo.

We thought that for the budget price we were getting quite a deal, until we realized our room's air conditioning didn't work. We spent our nights so hot and sweaty we were glad it was just my husband and I in the room.
I had to get two service requests to fix the A/C. Unfortunately for me, the AC didn't work until the last day of our trip!

On the other hand, there were a few nice things to say about the hotel. We had very friendly front desk people to help us with our trip planning, as well as the concierge, however, the concierge makes commi$$ion on everything she/he sells, so beware that you could probably book some things for less price elsewhere. I wish I had gotten a privately owned sunset sail cruise rather than using a commercial boat. They also try to sell you on a LOT of different things that are FAR more pricey than they would be if you just rented a car and did those things on your own. If you're old, go for the tour bus. If you're not old, rent a car!!

If I were to do it again, I'd stay at the locally owned resort - Kaanapali Beach Hotel. Even if it cost a little more every night.

In the end, I paid for an air conditioned space, but did not receive one. I complained, they tried to help me, but I did not receive any sort of discount. I feel a bit ripped off. Thankfully we spent little time in our hotel. I am glad we had a kitchenette though. That saved a lot of money from having to eat out every night.

In the end, it cost more for us to go to Maui than it cost us to go to Italy! Choose carefully!

Room Tip: If you get a room near the elevator, you will have an easy walk from the parking ramp to your hotel...

Hmmm, based upon the review on the resort itself, it seems like a rating of "two" is disproportionate to the overall experience. The individual ratings of the accommodations, service, location, etc. are all scores of at least 3, yet for some reason the overall scoare registered at a two??

We are sorry to learn of the challenges these guests experienced related to the air conditioning system within their unit. We will research this internally to make sure this unit is addressed such that we don't have future, similar occurrences.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to pay more and get less (paying a higher rate for a hotel room with no kitchen, smaller rooms, less privacy, etc.) as referenced in the posting. Our condo resort units provide the advantages I just listed...and you get all the amenities and services you'd find in the typical hotel as well.

Anyway, we do hope these visitors were able to enjoy the beauty and warm hospitality that the island has to offer and we hope they'll decide to visit us again at some future point.

Mahalo.
