Stayed 3 nights and had a wonderful time. Very relaxing place to come back to after all of the great activities. Would love to go back. Beautiful flower garden, right on the beach. Friendly, helpful staff.

Great family holiday. Very easy to locate the resort, and only a few minutes drive from the Kapalua Airport. Best to fly into this airport (JHM) if coming from Honolulu vs flying in the main airport and having the 1hr drive.

There is a choice of two pools. Both great with warm Spa's next to each. The Beach in front is nice and sandy, but rocky as you enter the water. Better for the kids 100m South with sandy bottom to go into the water.

Great boardwalk along the beach down to the other resorts with access to other Restaurants too.

Fantastic Grocery Store right across the road. Some good take-away and dine in Restaurants if you want to stay close to unit. Snorkel and Surf gear rental across the road as well.

All in all, a great place to stay with the family. We have 3 girls aged 2, 5, 7. The two bedroom unit was great with the older ones in a bedroom with 2 single beds and the little one in a cot in the master bedroom.

Room Tip: Rooms on the North Side get all the late afternoon sun. Can get hot if you leave the Lanai doors open. Rooms on the South in the shade most of the time. Rooms near the lobby with Garden View will have some late evening noise with thousands of birds gathering for the night. Goes silent after about 45 minutes and then starts up again in the morning around 7am. No drama as it is quite nice, but can wake the kids if they are used to quiet nights. Request a Garden View closer to the ocean. A few rooms closer does make a big difference for the bird noise. Our room had been recently renovated, so make a request to get a newly renovated one. Done quite well with Kitchens and Bathrooms looking good.

A fantastic true Hawaiian experience. Friendly, helpful, clean, above all our expectations. We really enjoyed staying at this resort. Unfortunately our Travel Agent didn't put us in an Aston resort in Honolulu and the difference was very noticable. We would definately choose Aston for our next holiday, and if we ever return to Maui we will definitely stay at Aston Kaanapali Shores.

Room Tip: Above ground floor have better views of the ocean.

We recently stayed at the hotel and were a bit disappointed. We had booked a oceanview room, and when we got to our room there was ocean but also parking lot below. We returned to the front desk and asked if there were any other rooms and preferably in the sun. We were given another room which was on the inside of the premises. Still in the shade all day long(no sitting on balcony in sun) but much better view for what we were paying. Our suite looked like the kitchen had been renovated but it is definately in need of an update in the whole suite. The place was very dark. Two little low light lamps in the bedroom. Could not see to get anything out of my luggage. The living room also provided very little light. With no sun ever coming into our place it was dark. The daily housekeeping could use some work. The first two days no one came to clean our room until after 4. We then called down and requested it to be cleaned earlier in the day as by 430 we were back in our suite wanting to get supper ready or get cleaned up to go out. Cleaning was minimal each day(garbage was not emptied every day), carpets and couch could use a good steam cleaning. The hotel needs to update their room safes. It was an old style where you needed a key to get into safe. Time to update to a code type so that if one person was out somewhere the other could actually get into the safe vs having to go get the key from the other person who could be gone for the day. Very inconvient. The beach was very disappointing. the pictures looked good, but it was very small and rarely could we find any chairs to sit on. The pool was boring and had rows of chairs back to back. Conscierge was good and helpful, thanks to Kai we booked some great trips to snorkel etc. She was very helpful and provided us with great information about the island. Restaurant was decent at the hotel. We returned late from Hana one night to find a note stating the very next day they would be coming to clean the 7th floor for pests. I get that this needs to be done but a little more than a days notice would be great. We would have booked some of our trips and planned to be gone that day. However with less than 12hrs notice and being pregnant and not wanting to hang around when who knows what chemicals were going to be used we choose to leave the hotel and moved to the Hona Kai. We ended up paying the same price(within $10) and had a wonderful room. Yes we lost our oceanview, but we stayed in a beautiful, new nice bright kitchen. and lovely suite. The Hona Kai property was so much nicer. The Kaanapali Shores is not a bad resort but for the money we expected a lot more. Come on guys it would not cost that much to buy some extra chairs for at the beach for your guests. The pool was crowded and the beach you had to sit on your towel as rarely were their enough chairs. This trip was just the two of us but if we would have brought our children with us it would have been horrible. The beach is small and the the water has lots of rocks that kids could not play in the water, even my husband struggled trying to get out into the water without cutting his feet(and he had water shoes). Pool is a boring square pool, not fun for kids. If you are taking your children this is not the resort for you. They do have a nice grass area for kids to run and play on but little else for little kids. We wish we would have movded earlier in the trip. This being our first trip to Maui we should have looked more closely. If you are going for the beach there are many other hotels with much better beach access where you can walk right out. We ended up driving everyday to find nicer beaches which was fun but also not as convenient and ended up having to pay to park at some. Word of advice nicest stretch of beach along this area was by far the beach in front of the Sheraton. Nice and long and able to go snorkel and actually go out in the water without having to walk over all the rocks. Our biggest disappoinment was the beach, the picture they show is very deceiving.

Room Tip: if you are going for the sunshine make sure you request a room where the balcony is in the sun.

Had 4th ocean front 2 bedroom condo. Requested updated unit per other reviews. Unit was somewhat updated but not to the extent as ones shown on property website, but it was very acceptable. The best part was the large wrap-around lanai accessible from master bdrm, living rm and dining rm. We had outstanding views of the pool, the beach and the nearby islands. We had not planned on preparing any meals which worked out as the kitchen was sparsely furnished. The property staff were very courteous and helpful. The on-site restaurant is ok for lunch around the pool, but wouldn't recommend dining there for bulk of your meals. The beach was almost non-existent except at low tide. Be aware that the boardwalk doesn't extend to this area. There are a couple of places to grab a quick meal across the street along with a grocery store; however, the best shopping & restaurant areas must be reached by car. There is also a local shuttle in the area, but we didn't use it.

Room Tip: If you want direct ocean front and/or updated condo, you must specifically request it. We did not want to be on 1st floor as units open directly onto public lawn area...just a personal preference.
