“temp venue bad food”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

This was recommended to us as very good by friends, the venue was temporary, we were told it was being remodeled. The area the event was held in was just outside a construction site that was poorly disguised by a plastic screen decorated with scenes of vines or something. We were shown a pig and told that was how it was prepared for a Luau, we did not get served that but what was served was fare that was well below what I thought Hyatt would serve. the dinner was buffet style and the food was poor and lukewarm. Chicken backs, shredded pork and an unnamed breaded fish to name a few. the typical luau fare was hard to recognize. The Dancers in the show were talented and enthusiastic though the MC seemed to be pretty flat. I would definitely not attend this if there were any other option.

“Worst Luau Ever Attended”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

September 6, 2013
Tonight my wife and I purchased tickets ($107.00 each- $214.00 total including taxes and fees) and went to the Drums of the Pacific Luau at the Hyatt Regency in the Kaanapali Resort area in West Maui. This was September the third Luau we have gone to. The Luau is being held in a make shift location on the grounds of the Hyatt during construction and is grossly inadequate! The selection of food at the Hyatt Luau was very limited and of very poor quality. The food that should have been served cold was warm and the food that should have been served hot was cold. The deserts were typical cheap smorgasbord style with only a very few selections and no Polynesian choices. The chicken was only chicken backs and were cold instead of hot, the pork was tasteless and was cold instead of hot, and the fish was cold not even a little warm. The show itself had a few good acts including a fire knife act. The problem with the show is that is lasted approximately 40 minutes in total including 10 to 15 minutes of Hula instruction for members of the audience. At a cost of $107.00 a person this Luau is a total and complete rip-off. At very best it is a third rate $29.99 Luau of very poor quality and content. We would not recommend anyone attend this Luau. We would rate this Luau a zero star out of 5 stars!
In comparison the Luau at the Polynesian Village on Oahu was excellent in all categories. The selection of food was totally excellent and the quality was outstanding. The show at the Polynesian Village on Oahu was totally outstanding. The Smith Family Luau on Kauai is also outstanding. The foods selection was excellent and the quality was also excellent. Both shows were fast paced and outstanding lasting more than an hour and at a lesser cost. I would recommend either the Luau at the Polynesian Village on Oahu or the Smith Family Luau on Kauai to anyone. Do not go the the Luau at the Hyatt Regency in West Maui!!

Our waiter JUN was the best and most attentive waiter. We appreciated his positive attitude and kindness. If we needed anything he didn't hesitate to bring it. Due to his service, it made the luau that much more enjoyable. The food was amazing and the show was absolutely interesting. We will most definitely be recommending this luau to family and friends. We will also go to this luau again in the future!

“Drums of the Pacific Lu'au”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

The food was very good and the fire performance was excellent. However, you were seated at long banquet tables squished next to your neighbor with no elbow room to speak of. Also, drinks were included in your ticket price but if they put alcohol in the mixed drinks it was a mystery to me. Even the couple across from us felt the same way, stick to wine or bottled beer. They are building a new location for this Lu'au to be completed in October 2013, hopefully that venue is a little more upscale.

Aloha and thank you for your feedback. It is a valuable tool in helping us to better ourselves and we appreciate the time you took to post this. We have listened and created more spacing among the rows and are providing fresher drinks at the greeting. Our traditional luau grounds are in the midst of a renovation and we are very excited for the unveiling! We hope you are able to join us again in the future at our new and improved location!

Disappointing is the best word to describe this experience. We were hoping to see the "real" luau or as close as it comes, this place is NOT it. From the begining we were told to arrive at 5:30- waist of time, no friendly greetings or demonstrations, just wait in lines.. That was followed by getting "hoarded" to the long tables, being squeezed by stranges ( which is not too bad after a number of extremely watered down drinks). The dinner was mediocre.Btw, no show during dinner. The show itself, is located at the construction site.. And lasts about an hour, the performance has left a lot to be desired.Nothing as it looks like in the photos of the event.. If you have an option of going to another venue for the luau experience, do so. This place is definitely not worth the money it's charging. If you are planing on visiting Kauai visit the luau at Kalamaku Luau.
