Owner description: Snorkeling trips to Lanai and Whale watching in season Constantly in search of the "Perfect Day" of snorkeling or whale watching, Captain Steve and his crew will stop at nothing to ensure unparalleled service and quality. Waste no time in discovering the secrets of the reef and playing with dolphins, humpback whales, turtles and rays. There is no telling what we might encounter on any given day. No two trips are alike, and that's probably what keeps the captains and crew so friendly and accommodating. They are as excited about going to work as the guests are about going on a Maui rafting adventure! History Established in 1986. Captain Steve's Rafting is a true example of the words "owner operated." Since he started his business in 1986, Steve has been insisting on personal service and satisfaction for every guest. As he explains, "I want to make sure everyone who comes with us absolutely loves the experience." It's hard to find someone more sincerely dedicated to making visitors happy. That's why so many customers keep coming back to Captain Steve's year after year. A note with regard to the captains and crew: It is widely known that Captain Steve has been the only operator of the family business for the past three decades, but with the advent of his second boat, he obviously cannot be two places at once. He is therefore committed to selecting only people who truly care about the craft of tourism and wish to make a positive impact on the experience of the guests. Thus "going the extra mile" is always sought after when considering a representative of his company.

“Zodiac boats keep you close to the action”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

We took the 7 am. whale watching and snorkel tour, and we were not disappointed. Great knowledgeable staff, amazing buffet lunch, and small numbers on the boat so everyone is close to the action. I would return for sure. Way better than the giant cruise type boats where you are very far away. We had whales swim right beneath us, as well as three different kinds of dolphins.

“A qualified recommendation”
Reviewed March 20, 2013 via mobile

Captain Steve and crew still love what they do and are friendly and accommodating offering a no frills approach (not even bottled water) and their speedy rafts offer a different experience than the typical catamaran. But either the whale watching guidelines have gotten more strict (very believable) or the crew are perhaps a little too conservative in their approach maintaining a sometimes frustrating distance from the humpbacks which were in abundance on our recent trip. One of their stated advantages is the speed of the motorized raft but if you cut the motor when getting within 300 yards of any whale and don't pursue them when you see them in the distance doesn't that kind of offset that advantage? Again, this policy may not be their fault and who can blame them, just set your expectations properly and have a great time.

“Whale watch. Wow!”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

Have gone several times with Steve and the experience has always been above expectations. Went once on a different boat and company and there is no comparison. With Steve's boat, you get up close. He knows how to find the active ones and the whales seem to actually like his boat. Aside from seeing them on top of the water next to the boat, I was actually able to hang over the side with my waterproof camera and take pictures of the whole whale with baby and mother together. Fantastic!!

“Whale watch / snorkeling trip”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

We booked the Lanai snorkeling and whale watch trip. The morning of the trip, there was a small craft advisory and the ocean was a bit choppy. We ended up not making it across to Lanai, but Captain Carl and Lynn took us to some great snorkel places on the Maui side. We say lots of whales and some dolphins. The lunch was delicious.
