I hate to review this place because it is so gorgeous and so reasonable that the result will only be higher prices in the future. There are only six rooms in this house (per the owner it was a built as a spec house) and with six unique bedrooms and the design of the house is exquisite. The showers are outdoors (with privacy) and one feels if they have the house to themselves. The proprietor is quite generous with his time and seems well versed at discussing most any topic and is quite charming. The rooms are lovely and well appointed, save the bed in our room, which was quite tall (but elegant and comfy) but required some work getting in and out. I have a friend back in the mainland whose son is getting married this year, and I recommended he consider coming here for his honeymoon. It is QUITE romantic, even for someone who has been married for 30 years ... you cannot go wrong. My only recommendation would be to get a room facing the ocean ... the view is worth the extra money. It has a small but elegant pool and excellent breakfast. If you prefer big resort hotels or have children, this is probably not the place for you. Also, the Inn is up on the hill, above Lahaina, so it is not within walking distance of the town or the beach ... a rental car is a necessity. That said, if you enjoy your privacy, tranquility and a secluded getaway ... go for it.

Room Tip: They are all nice, but I strongly recommend getting a room facing the ocean or to the side garden, I...

My husband and I got married in Maui and we stayed here for our elopement and honeymoon.
I can only say great things about this place. If you are trying to get away from annoying touristy people please stay here! This place truly makes you feel like your at home because since there are only so many rooms, you barely see other people around. There is also no kids allowed! The outdoor shower was my one of my favorite things about our room as well as the outdoor patio. We stayed in the room Nalu, which I highly reccommend because it has an awesome ocean view. The owners were very personable and accomadating. The location is very close to front street in Lahaina where all the restaurants and shops are. Overall a very postivie experience!

Room Tip: Nalu! Great ocean views, great layout and close to the pool.

We both work for hotels so we wanted to stay someplace that would offer us a little more privacy for our honeymoon being that we were traveling over Spring Break. This is a lovely property with an amazing pool and incredible view. We stayed in the Nalu room for three nights which had a wonderful ocean view, great outdoor shower, and a deep soaking tub. I will warn anyone who may be “shy” that there is no door on the toilet area so if that is a concern for you, this would not be the room for you. For the other nights we stayed in the Wailele which did have a separate toilet closet, a very comfortable bed, nice antique tub, and wonderful outdoor shower with a mountain view. While we didn’t have ideal weather, they views from the property were amazing and the few days we could enjoy the pool were fantastic. We hardly saw any of the other couples. Breakfast was great with a different freshly baked bread and muffin choice daily. There was fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, coffee, teas, and juices to pick from. There was never a shortage of options. We appreciated Dan’s insight on several great places to eat and appreciated the helpfulness. Our standards are high due to our profession and I would not only visit again but would tell anyone considering a trip to look into booking here as well.

Room Tip: Again, be sure to ask if the room has a door on the water closet if you are shy around your partner.

A beautiful and very relaxing place to be in West Maui! It is a great place to get away from the busy touristy centres. Our room was outstanding - very clean, large, and a great set up with the outdoor shower and private patio. Breakfast quality was fantastic, with 2 different freshly baked items each day, fresh fruit, yoghurt, various cereals, boiled eggs. The coffee could have been stronger, but it gave us an opportunity to enjoy the variety of teas. Amy and Dan were very helpful with suggestions to eat, and things to do around Maui. The Eco focus of this B and B was evident everywhere, from the local foods, the solar panels, the soaps, etc. It is a great B&B to support and a beautiful place to spend time at. Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for high quality, peaceful, romantic, and green accommodation in West Maui.

My partner and I stayed at Ho'oilo House (in the partial ocean view Akala Manu room) for 3 nights in late February. We had a wonderful stay and echo all of the other glowing reviews. The property is situated in a gorgeous area and is very beautiful and well-maintained inside and out. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and afforded sufficient privacy. The entire vibe is wonderfully intimate and relaxed. Amy and Dan were very welcoming when we arrived, and made it clear that they would have been available if we'd needed them, but we never did. Being able to take in the gorgeous surroundings from our outdoor shower was one of our favorite things. The breakfast was very tasty and quite extensive considering that they only have 6 rooms. We had absolutely no complaints and hope to return again some day!

My husband and I spent 4 nights in the Nalu room of Ho'olio House in February. We had a little trouble finding the house as there are no identifying signs on the property and the picture on the website is of the backside. Since we had Dan's phone number, we called for directions and he met us in the front. Once there, we settled into the Nalu room. It has a nice (though distant) view of the ocean and the island of Lanai from the private porch, although since it faced west, it was in direct sunlight in the late afternoon when we were most likely to use it. The room layout was odd. The bed was against the wall so that my husband had to crawl over me if he had to get up during the night, and the reading lights weren't in a useable position. After turning off the bedroom light, I had to wander through the dark to find the (comfortable) bed. The bathroom has no door separating it from the bedroom, so there is no privacy. The room was clean, but not pristine. The outdoor shower was terrific! Plenty of water pressure and just a great experience. Breakfast hours were very limited, so we were only able to enjoy it one morning out of four because snorkeling, the Road to Hana, and our flight out required that we leave the B&B before breakfast was served. Dan and Amy were nice, but not particularly engaging, and didn't offer us an alternative or suggestion for breakfast when we told them of the conflict. We did love the peace and quiet of the location, about 3 or 4 miles from the town of Lahaina. Overall, we would recommend the Ho'olio House over most big hotels, but don't expect perfection.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review - it is truly appreciated. We're happy to hear that you had a nice stay with us and we look forward to welcoming you again.

We strive for excellence, but we understand that we're not always able to achieve it. For that you have our sincere apologies. I'm truly surprised that we didn't offer you to-go breakfasts on the days you had early adventures - that's unlike us. Again, you have our apologies.

We hope to see you again and we thank you for recommending us to your family and friends.

This Balinese beauty is gorgeous. The location, view, pool, ponds, living room and decor are all exquisite. We stayed 2 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. Even when we were up early to go whale watching, they kept breakfast for when we returned. The location is close to Lahaina and many beautiful beaches. The hosts were gracious and helpful. Highly recommended.
