We met Vene one of the performers in this show while taking the Ko'ie'ie Fishpond Cultural Tour in Kihei. He mentioned he was appearing in this show and arranged for our tickets. Ulalena is at the Maui Theatre, 837 Front Street, Lahaina, www.mauitheatre.com, you can also purchase dinner/theatre packages. This show is definitely worth seeing; approximately 20 professional cast members and a live band. The singers are phenomenal and the band will blow you away. Sit on the right side of the theatre as the band is a show unto itself, with remarkable musicians, drummers and singers. It is a story of the creation of Hawaii, the early Polynesians and the struggles they now face. Really a worthwhile show to see, the dancing, singing and movement is top notch. CD and DVD available for purchase after the show. We purchased the CD soundtrack and the music is beautiful and haunting. A hidden treasure in Lahaina.

WOW! I just got home from seeing 'Ulalena for the second time in a month. It is the most beautiful show I have experienced in a LONG time.

The production is technically astounding. Absolutely stunning to look at! There is a cast of 16 or 17 men and women. They are dancers, singers, and aerialists.

The lead female singer was absolutely beautiful. More about the finale in a minute.

My favorite dancer was the man playing "Taro". My eyes were glued to the strength of his body, and the fluidity of his movement.

The live band consists of 3 or 4 musicians. The lead percussionist must have close to 50 pieces of percussion in his pit. He is entertaining to watch on his own!

The music is original, and feels fresh and new, yet authentically Hawaiian sounding.

The finale and title song, 'Ulalena was quite an emotional ride. It seems to be the only one with English lyrics. It is mesmerizing! I don't know all the lyrics, and part of it is in Hawaiian, but what I gather is something like: "With a single glance, a thrill possesses me with a thing called love. Oh, where are you, 'Ulalena rain?" Uplifting and makes me cry every time I listen to it. (Bought the CD)

I could attend this show weekly if I was able to!!!!!!

Well done, everyone!
