We took the Ka'anapali Sunset tour on an overcast evening and had a blast... even though the sunset was, how shall we say, "muted".

Captains Kery and Kevin were wonderful and their assistants Justin and Taylor made sure our drinks stayed flowing. The hor d'oeuvres were perfect for a moving boat.

Although mother nature choose not to show us a sunset, she did provide some amazing spinner dolphins (see photos) for our entertainment. They must trust Captain Kevin, because they kept swimming right up next to the hull of Trilogy III.

Remember to wear short pants because when they say beach loading, they mean beach... not dock.

We recently took the Molokini snorkeling trip with Captain Nick and his amazing crew. The weather was pretty over cast that day and it was a bit chilly, however, Nick and his team made it fun for everyone. On our way to swim with turtles, my husband noticed that he no longer had his iwatch - yikes! Nick got on the radio and alerted the next Trilogy boat and also other tour companies where we’d anchored and jumped in. My hubby was bummed and we figured it was lost for good. Two days later, Nick texted to say that it had been found and was still working! We picked it up the next day (and left an extra tip) the watch charged and paired with my husbands phone just fine! We were thrilled. This was our third trip with Trilogy and we will continue to use them and recommend them to friends and family!!

We did the afternoon whale watch from Kaanapali Beach with a group of 4 adults and 4 children 8 years and under. The ocean was very choppy and we half expected the tour to be cancelled, but it was not. Going out we enjoyed the boat ride but unfortunately did not see any whales for probably the first hour. The boat went out what seemed pretty far and eventually we did have some good whale sightings. The ride back, however, was horrible. The waves were super choppy and the boat was not safe to walk around especially for young children. The boat was going at a very high speed to return to the departure spot. We sat at the front of boat in middle. We we unable to move away from this area safely due to speed of the boat and the choppiness of the waves. We repeated got hit with waves and sea spray but could not safely leave the spot we were in. None of the crew came to check on us to make sure we were okay and honestly we felt very unsafe on the deck. All four kids ended up in tears and we were completely drenched and cold. We also returned back over 40 minutes last because the captain took the boat out so far. I cannot recommend this tour for any who is plans to bring small children onboard. The tour was touted as being family friendly but it was not at all. There are many other whale watches that are far cheaper than Trilogy. Trilogy states they give a better experience but definitely not in this case. I did call and speak with a Trilogy representative and they only stated the ocean conditions can change and they cannot control that. The captain can, however, control the speed of the boat and they can control the way the crew interactions with guests who need assistance getting to a safer area of the boat. I had previously taken a tour with Trilogy to Lanai and had an amazing time. I thought this would be the case as well but it was a huge disappointment and a total waste of our vacation dollars.

Aloha hjeick,

We hate to disappoint, especially families, and would like the chance to speak with you directly to offer a remedy and a human apology. It sounds like your tour day was one of the moodier-weather days we've had this winter season. There are many days where this weather can impact the natural activity of the humpback whales, causing less activity in the water, and because of this our Captains have been trained to check multiple viewing spots during our whale watches. We do apologize that your tour returned late, but had the Captain not ventured farther into the channel where the whales are known to rest, it is likely that the boat would not have been able to witness these amazing creatures! It sounds like we did not live up to our standard on hospitality and service, however, and we'd love to get some more information about your tour date & time in order to follow up with our individual crew. We would never want a guest to feel like their safety was compromised, and we are sincerely sorry you felt this way during your excursion. Although variable Maui weather can certainly make return trips windier with more sea swell, we would never intentionally put any of our guests or crew, in harm's way.

Though this time out with us was not favorable for you, we would love to host you again on your next trip to Maui, so that we can truly make your Whale Watching excursion stand out as a 5-star tour, like your previous Discover Lana'i trip. I feel weather was the main culprit behind your disappointment and we would so love the opportunity to have a second chance.

Mahalo,
Trilogy MGMT

Took the 130pm tour from Maalaea with the wife who was dying to see some whales. Probably the best $60 (each) spent all trip. Saw whales for ~90 out of the 120 mins of the tour (despite being relatively late in whale season). Crew were awesome - friendly and informative! The website advertises 2 drinks / person, but more were offered. The lunch consisted of a variety of sandwiches and cookies which were surprisingly very good! Very much recommended!

We had two great trips with Trilogy during our time in Maui. We did the Molokini snorkel trip with Brian, Cookie, Todd, Carlos (missing a couple of others??) and our 8 yr old daughter tried and loved SNUBA. Whole crew was so friendly, welcoming and attentive. They also kindly watched our 5 year old on deck when he didn't want to snorkel and the rest of us wanted to. Instead he got really excited to 'drive' the boat with Brian. The crew makes the experience! Then we had day trip to Lanai with Captain Turtle, Jessie, Josh, Todd, and LOL. Again their good spirits throughout the day made it seem extra special and like we were truly on vacation. Great snorkelling at Lanai and the best were the shallow pools with fish where my 5 year old was actually comfortable 'snorkelling' (sticking his face in with googles and no snorkel) . He loves swimming around with his face in the swimming pool at home and I was disappointed that the waves in the open water scared him too much. But the deep tide pools were perfect for him at the Lanai beach. So I would highly recommend this trip with smaller children in particular. It's a cliche but there is something for everyone on this trip! Plus awesome cocktails and tunes on the way back. Thanks Trilogy :)
