I went on my first Blue'aina trip this week which is put together by Trilogy. If you've ever wanted to help make Maui a better place to vacation, this is the ticket. We started the day with a 45 minute beach clean up. Funny how there were so many cigarette butts all around the ash trays. Anyway, the boat pulled up to Ka'anapali Beach and we boarded to the sounds of chanting from the gentleman who's non-profit would benefit from the days work. Very cool. We motored over the Mala Harbor while listening to information about the non-profit that would benefit and some info on what the chants meant. Then everyone was in the water looking for garbage on the reef. There were really cool fish too. Oh, and turtles. So we pulled out a lot of stuff from the water and headed back to Ka'anapali with sandwiches and a salad donated by a local restaurant. During our trip back, we heard more chanting, more info on both the non-profit and some info from the restaurant that donated the food. It was a really fun time, we helped out some fish and turtles and we learned a few things too. Everyone was really nice and it was really low key. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves the water, the beach and giving back. The donation was $25 and it all goes to the non-profit that is selected for that trip.

We got lucky with perfect weather, so this might be biased... My girlfriend and I did a sunset cruise and had an amazing time. Parking is validated (make sure you go in the right garage, we accidentally parked in the Sheraton one first), and you meet on the beach. The co-captain takes role call and cracks a ton of jokes. Then you wade in the water a bit, get in and sail off. The food they provide is awesome (around 8 different appetizers) and the drinks were good. They also give you more than the 2 drinks they advertise, or at least they did for our group. The captain takes you all over, the staff is super friendly, the boat is comfortable (just be ready to get wet, maybe bring a towel), and the sunset is gorgeous. Worth every penny.

The trip was good and the crew did a good job. At about $200 per person, it was overpriced for the services provided. There is only one small beach on Lanai with average snorkeling. The city tour was informative, but the town is small and has little to offer. That hour and a half would be better spent at the beach. Food was plentiful, but average in quality.

Took the sun set cruise with pupus and drinks - really very nice. We motored down, hoisted the sails on return trip. We were treated to dolphins swimming along side the boat. The wonderful crew, Captain Casey, Kama and Carrie took very good care of us with "adult" beverages and lots of good pupus. Kama, a local boy, was lots of fun to chat with too. This trip is well worth the price and it will do for dinner for the average person. Oh, and the sunset was beautiful. FYI, they say to wear your bathing suit but it's not really necessary to do that - only our feet got wet.
