We recently "sailed" aboard the Scotch Mist II for a family vacation over the holidays and were quite surprised by what we experienced. Not only did the boat show up 30 minutes late with no real apologies from the captain--an hour if you consider that they asked us to check in at 3:30 PM for the champagne sunset sail--but we never even properly sailed on our trip. The captain motored out quite a distance and then had his crew raise the main sail only 3/4ths the way up, which was beyond strange. The weirdest part was that when the crew, who were really the only saving grace of the trip, tried to tie off the excess sail so that it was not flopping in our face, the captain barked orders to let it be. We ultimately had to move and actually stand for part of the journey given that there wasn't much extra room. The champagne and chocolate covered macadamia nuts were a plus but could not mask the overall feeling that we were not wanted. This is my fifth time in Hawaii, and most times I go back to do the same excursions. Will definitely avoid this in the future and will stick with the catamaran sails as at least you feel welcome.
