Expeditions Lahaina/Lanai Passenger Ferry
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 26, 2012

Our Hawaiian vacation started with 4 days on Oahu and then we took Hawaiian Air to Maui for 8 days. We wanted to visit one more island so I booked round trip tickets to Lanai. It was $30 each way so we spent $120 on ferry rides. I chose the 9:15 am departure and the 6:45 pm return. The ferry itself was a lot of fun. The water is beautiful and it is fun to see Maui from the ocean. The people on the ferry were nice and it was very organized. Take something for seasickness before you leave. One of the highlights was watching a youth soccer team arriving in Lahaina for a game. The kids must have been about 10 years old we could hear them cheering as the ferry arrived in the harbor. It felt like we were doing a "local" thing. There was nothing to do on Lanai except snorkel so we checked back in at the harbor and they let us catch the 4:30 pm ferry back to Lahaina. They were very accomodating and nice. It's a great ferry service. Just make sure you know what you want to do on Lanai when you get there. Ironically, the soccer kids were waiting to catch the last ferry back to Lanai. They were cheering because they had won.

It would be nice if they had some computation to keep the pricing honest but what can I say it's far from a perfect world.......lanai is awesome though snorkel in manili bay and there is a good chance to see dolphins plus there is a four seasons there and they have a free bus into town

Nice large boat for the channel crossing makes good time getting to Lanai. They also offer kama'aina which is good.

Nice ferry ride - courteous staff clean, and airconditioned boat, and it left on time.

We went to Lanai on the early boat for day of snorkeling, figuring there would be a few places to buy food and beverages when we got there. When we arrived we found out that the only store at the dock was permanently closed. We walked to the beach, we found that the only place that sold anything was affiliated with the hotel, and they wouldn't sell to people who weren't guests of the hotel. So basically, bring yOur own supplies and food- you won't find anyplace open unless you walk up hill to the hotel. We caught the 2pm boat back to the Maui for a late lunch.

BTW, the ferry service sold us some oil to put behind our ears to prevent seasickness. Amazingly it worked, even on the rough trip back.

This is a great alternative to flying from Lanai to Maui. They left on time and we saw dolphins swimming!
