Right in front of the old courthouse in downtown Lahaina, you'll find a park that is dominated by a really huge old banyan tree. And i do mean huge, this thing has limbs sprawling all over the entire park. Not only is it cool to look at, it is cool literally providing some great shade.

You'll also typically find some local artists selling their wares in this park. This makes it a nice spot to either relax for a bit after walking all over downtown Lahaina or do a little arts and crafts shopping.

The downside? Well, how do I say this? You might get a contact high! I've never passed through this park without smelling weed, and I mean a LOT of weed. But then some might consider that an upside. Don't worry, it's safe, and I didn't see anyone overtly dealing or anything like that. Just be aware you might have to answer "mommy what's that smell?" if you pass through with the kiddies.

The other reviewers were right in that there are many people that hang out near the tree including maybe some homeless people. BUT I feel like it's a neat little trip. I wouldn't devote a whole day to it, but it's something cool to stop by and look at while you're in Lahaina. There's an art gallery downstairs in the neighboring courthouse, and other cool shops in downtown Lahaina, but definitely a fun little trip. I would recommend.

While not being overly exciting, if you are in the downtown area, a stop by the park to see this tree, is a must.

A really neat thing to see. You will not see something like this anywhere else. Lots to do within 5 blocks of the banyan tree as well.

So cool - tree around 140 years old (I think) with multiple branches coming down from the primary tree. Is really neat to see.
