Description: In the early days of the sugar plantations, lunch was a simple affair. Plantation workers gathered in the fields for their mid-day meal. The Japanese laborers would bring teriyaki beef with rice and pickled vegetables. Seated next to them might be their Filipino neighbors with the traditional dish adobo or perhaps a pork or chicken stew. The Koreans had their kalbi or marinated ribs and the Chinese a rice noodle and vegetable dish called chow fun. Hawaiians were known for their kalua pig, roasted in an underground oven called an imu. It wasn't long before they began to share their foods with one another and the "mixed plate" was born. Aloha Mixed Plate features true "Local" traditional plate lunches with open air seating directly on the ccean. We are open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

“Local dining”

Very local place to come and eat. The food is good. Relaxed atmosphere. Seems to be very popular since it was crowded when we came here on a Sunday morning. Good coffee and breakfast.

“great local Hawaiian food”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

The food had great aloha flavor. I especially liked the chicken katsu, korean bbarbecue. The fish was very small in the mixed plate combo. It is oceanview dining.

“Wonder Island Atmosphere”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

The restaurant was exactly what one would expect for an open, on the ocean, restaurant. We could hear the luau music from the venue next door, we overlooked the ocean as the sun went down while we ate dinner, the aloha mixed plate with macaroni, rice, teriyaki chicken, slice of marinated meat and grilled fish on the top was outstanding. All at a very reasonable price for Maui. Would definitely go back there again, and highly recommend that you try it. Great location on Front Street.

“Very good food but especially a bargain”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

Went here on a local recommendation. A short wait but nothing problematic. Outside tables can be hot at lunchtime, but again not problematic. Superior smoothies as well as good entrees and sandwiches at prices that seem normal, not "Maui normal" (extra points if you get the attempt at the Young Frankenstein reference). Alcoholic beverages the same deal. Good for all ages!
