We had dinner at Leilani's the last time we were in Maui a few years ago, and remembered that we liked it. From 5-6 something there is a limited sunset menu upstairs for only $19.95, which is a great price for that area. We made reservations for 5:30....coming from the east coast, we needed to eat early!
The view was awesome (beautiful sunset as we were eating dessert) and the meal was above average. My husband had the "surf and turf" which was a small filet and a couple of large prawns. He really liked it. I got the parmesan crusted fish of the day and it was served with vegetables and mashed potatoes...quite tasty.

Our server was really good, friendly and on top of things....we told him we wanted to finish before the sun actually fully set, so I could go outside and get some photos....we had the check and were out of there just in time.

We ended with the Hula pie, a specialty that tastes like a hot fudge sundae made into a pie with a chocolate cookie crust and chopped macadamia nuts on top. Plenty for two to share, and it was free as we had a coupon from the Marriott where we were staying. We came back after lunch a few days later to just have the pie again!!! It was that good.

We liked Leilani's, and consider it a great place for a casual meal in Ka'anapali; there are other restaurants that are more upscale around the area for those celebrating an anniversary dinner or other specail occasion that want a gourmet experience.

A bit confusing to start.we made reservations, arrived a few minutes early, we waited in a line of 5 or so couples for our table, when we got to the front we were told we were in the wrong place, told to go to the next sidewalk and go inside. Signage would have been helpful. Once inside our party of 2 was seated at a table for 6 (?). But once seated our experience was wonderful. From appetizers to dessert our server and food was top notch. Sunset, an island breeze and ocean sounds what could be better?

Tonight was our anniversary and we chose to go to Leilani's to celebrate this special occasion. The server was very warm, pleasant and informative, the appetizer we shared (sushi stack-$13.95) was great. Everything else was just okay. The flavors of my salad (simple greens with goat cheese with a balsamic reduction dressing) was just okay, along with the special fish we ordered as well, which was a flaky white fish with mango chutney, goat cheese mash potatoes and sautéed bok choy. Nothing spectacular for the $37.95 price tag for the entree. We've eaten out every night now for quite a few evenings, and unfortunately Leilani's tonight didn't leave us with any special feeling of wanting to return.

We visited Leilani's twice during our trip - once for lunch and once for dinner. The two experiences were very different but consistently good.

Dinner was great at sunset. Our server was very attentive, and the food was great. I got steak instead of seafood (all the TS Restaurants have variations on the same menu, and we had Duke's seafood the night before). The steak was simply amazing - very flavorful and cooked just the way I ordered it. My wife's fish was equally good. We were very impressed. And, we were able to get our parking validated for Whaler's Village (important, as it's expensive!).

Our lunch experience was just as amazing. We chose to eat upstairs, with a better view and better breeze. My wife got a teri burger that was one of the best we've ever had. I had the fish tacos, and they were very tasty. My wife's burger would be the reason we'd return for lunch, though. Lunch was a pretty good value, given the location. Service was good, but not the same as for dinner (expected).

We'll definitely have Leilani's on the short list for our next trip.

Great happy hour, $5 margaritas, $4 sliders. Also, fish tacos were so good, had them twice. Nice atmosphere and great service. We didn't eat upstairs only in the bar area. Had some good entertainment.
