“A lot of history”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

My husband and I enjoyed this museum and learning a lot of Hawaiian history. Plus it is free, they do have a donation box that you can contribute what you would like.

“Some really great local history!”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

A really nice building full of local and Hawaiian general history. We saw octopus lures, something I had never known existed. Lots of other things to make you feel more a part of the local landscape. You can pretend you are before the judge's bench pleading for clemency before going to have a drink nearby.

“Great historic building!”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

Originally built in 1859 from the material from King Kamehameha III Palace. (Hale Piula) It originally housed several government offices: Customs-House, Post Office, Collectors Office and money vault, offices for the governor, Police Court, court rooms, and the office for the sheriff and DA. It was a very important building in its time. Today it continues to be important part of LaHaina. It houses the Visitors Centre and Art Gallery. One can still see aspects of the original building; including the jail cells and vault in the basement. Worth a vist.

“Great small museum, artist gift shop, and clean rest rooms”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

Great small museum, artist gift shop, and clean restrooms.

The basement is an old jail with the cells still intact. A local non-profit artist collaborative sells its works out of the basement (enter on the north side of the building) and in a small gallery on the ground floor.

Worth a stop.

“Wonderful small mseum and it's FREE”
Reviewed December 25, 2013

This is one of the better museums in Lahaina and it is free. There is a lot of history here, some nice artifacts and some great pictures. The courthouse is just behind the big banyan tree and includes a nice gift shop and tourist information on the main floor. The museum and washrooms are on the second floor.
This place is definitely worth a visit.
