Beautifully appointed, comfortable beds, and equipped with everything you could ask for....from kitchen and snorkeling equipment to post it notes! The location is convenient - an easy walk to stores or a 10 minute drive to Lahaina. Although there is no air conditioning, both the breeze, and the fans kept us cool. We spent 6 blissful days here enjoying the private beach and the well kept grounds and pool. The view from the lanai is spectacular - especially at sunset. Mornings were also spent on the lanai watching the sea turtles...all in all a great place to just relax. Super people as well - One of the residents kindly shared his hot bbq coals so we could cook our dinner without waiting. Linda is one of the owners and is informative, well organized and easy to deal with. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

In short, this place is amazing, when we stepped into the apartment we stepped into a postcard of Hawaii.
The fit out of the apartment was tastefully done, no small feat when the lamps are pineapples, the furniture perfectly suited to the environment, and very comfortable, and when you step onto the deck the view is amazing with palm trees, sand and ocean.
We spent 4 nights here on our honeymoon after time in Waikiki and Hilo and this was the easily the highlight of our trip.
The apartment come with everything you could want and with a large supermarket just down the road, we didn't rent a car and the walk was a comfortable 20 minutes, everything is easily available.
The owners are great to deal with and i woudl very happily stay there again.

We just returned from a wonderful 11 day stay at the Hale Mahina. We've been to the other islands but had not been back to Maui since our honeymoon 35 years ago. Things have changed on Maui!!! This one bedroom condo is an end unit, with windows down the side in the living, kitchen, bath and bedroom, which was great for the cross-ventilation and no one walks outside your door. It was nicely appointed with just about everything you'd need for an extended stay. Some things were new, some needed attention, but nothing to make you stay away from this unit. Larry, the manager, was very nice and the grounds are kept impecible. The nice sandy beach is wonderful and shared by only 4 condos. Rarely more than 10-20 people on the beach. The sea turtles were fantastic and sometimes crawl up on the beach to take in the sunshine.

This two bedroom (one bedroom is a loft) two bath condo has been recently upgraded and was a great fit for our group of six. My eldest slept on the lanai comfortably for our entire ten day trip. We took advantage of the snorkeling equipment and boogie boards, and we spent most evenings with a drink in hand either on the oceanfront lounge chairs or on our lanai, taking in the ocean breezes. I was nice and toasty the entire time! The pool was perfect for kids and adults alike and where else are you steps from both the pool and the ocean? It was a great mix of owners and renters. The kids were able to snorkel right off the beach, taking in shells and wildlife. Sea turles (honu) even came right up on the beach! The geckos were a hoot to watch!

The pace was perfect for us. Not crowded at all. The manager, Larry, helped my eldest open a coconut.

20 years go was our first visit to the Halen Mahina and we've stayed in many units over the years. The 52 unit complex is the perfect size to have a more relaxing holiday than the mayhem the mega resorts and include. The 2 bedroom units are on the top (4th) floor of each building and can vary greatly in how they are appointed and what's included. This unit was perfect in the furnishings, comfortable beds, iPod docking stations, Wi-Fi and the comforts of home. The view of the Maui sunset from the lanai was a nightly ritual for us.

The most important thing to remember about Hale Mahina is that there are individually owned properties so research which condo you are staying in first. Not everyone leases the “fish condo” and therefore if you are looking for those exact amenities in another condo you will be disappointed. It was only two of us so we stayed in B-201; a one bedroom condo. I must say the property as a whole is amazing especially for the price paid.

Grounds:
The Oceanfront/beach/pool area is what is gated. The entire complex is not gated. Everyone has access to the front door of your condo but only owners/guests have access to the “backyard” and believe me the “backyard” is where it’s at. The grounds are kept immaculate the pool must be cleaned every night because it is under palm trees and I NEVER saw a leaf in the pool in the morning. The beach is nice, small, but very nice when you don’t want to brave the crowds of other more public Maui beaches. I also noticed that the beach is not a private beach. The condos next door have access also but Hale Mahina is right in front of the beach area thusly the provided lounge chairs and grills and picnic benches have prime space in front of the water. Others can sit on the beach but Hale Mahina’s backyard is a level up from the sand. It is absolutely perfect. Vic, our condo owner was right when he told us to check out other places and make sure you differentiate between an Oceanfront property and an Oceanfront property with a swimmable beach. Swimmable beach is not that easy to come by. We ate at the Gaezbo Grill at another Condo property and people literally had lounge chairs on black-rock sunbathing. No swimming there! HOH fees are worth every dollar here. The groundskeeper keeps things together and everything you need is already anticipated. I mean the “backyard” has loungers and chairs, grills and picnic table and benches. It has a water hose to rinse your feet when you leave the beach and just in case you hate the water hose there is an outdoor shower in the pool cabana. I saw coal and lighter fluid for the grills in a closet behind the pool cabana but I don’t know if it was for general use or not. The spa worked well and the pool was the perfect temperature. There was no fight for loungers when we were there; the property was actually pretty quiet.

B-201:
Our property owner definitely knows how to anticipate what his guests needs. I think that’s a common belief for the whole property. There was automatic dish detergent in the kitchen, Laundry detergent in the bathroom (and we brought our own), blenders, toasters, mixers, wine bottle openers, etc. Little things were definitely provided for, I loved that. The bedroom is by the front door which was a little odd but understandable because the balcony has the ocean view and it is off of the living room. You definitely WANT to see that sunset every night! I have two issues with property B-201.
1. ANTS!!! Not the normal size ants, but those itty bitty ones that don’t bite but are super annoying. They were in the kitchen, in the bathroom and in the bedroom. They crawl over EVERYTHING. We lost our banana bread to them. I hated going in the bathroom because of them. It’s obvious they are a problem in the condo because there was already bug spray. I love a long hot shower and when my DH realized I was jumping in and out quickly he went into the bathroom with the can of bug spray and blasted them all to hell! I saw not another one, in the bathroom, after that.
2. The bed. Vic needs to change the mattress. After a week our backs were killing us.
Aside from those two things, which are the reason for my rating, I loved Hale Mahina. I would definitely go back and if the Ants were gone and there was a new bed I would stay in B-201 again. Wi-fi was great. Amenities were great, liked it a lot. Just a note there is no air condition in the condo. It was not necessary for us as the breeze was enough but could be annoying when there is no breeze.

All in all Maui is amazing and if you ever get the chance to go JUMP ON IT!! And stay at Hale Mahina!
