“Great for families!!”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

We stayed at this property to use a promotion and it was definitely worth the discounted trip. Because of the promotion, our room faced the parking lot and highway in Bldg 4. It wasn't a big minus for us as we don't spend a lot of time in the room and the deal was so good. However, we did ask if we could upgrade and were willing to pay for it and were told the property was fully booked which I think meant more like … you aren't owners and you are on a promotion so deal with it.

The property is beautiful, the amenities are good and we had a great time. The staff were all very friendly and our room was clean though I prefer housekeeping every day. The pancakes at the poolside cafe were outrageously good. Poolside service could have been a bit quicker.

This is a property for families. If we didn't have a child I would not want to stay here. With that being said, it is a great property for families! The valet guy suggested we request a diaper genie for our room so we called down for one and it was brought within 15 mins. Awesome! It can really suck when you have dirty diapers and the only convenient trash is the little one in the hotel room. Trekking diapers to the trash in a hotel is a bummer.

There is some disparity between the north and south side… it sort of seems like the service or amenities are all a little more convenient for the north side. However, after touring the north side we ended up preferring the south side. If you are in the south side and want to go to the little market in the north side it is much faster to walk from the front of the south lobby to the front of the north as the market is off the front area by the north lobby. This could save you a 20 minute walk!

My wife and I are Starwoods owners and Starwoods Preferred Guests (Gold)..That meant absolutely nothing. I booked 3 rooms for a family vacation months in advance. When it came time to check in, they had assigned us rooms in 3 different buidlings with less than desirable views. Because the property was running at capacity, we had to settle for less with our "family" spread across 3 buildings. And it went down hill from there. From check-in until checki-out, they could never get the correct names on the correct rooms (which is problemmatic when you're charging to your room). And, when I mentioned how disappointed we were compared to our AWESOME experience at the Westin Princeville in Kauai in 2013, the front desk response was "Well, of course, Princeville is so much smaller than we are." REALLY? REALLY? That the answer you give to a loyal owner? "We're too big so we expect/accept mistakes? That said, the Ka'anapali concierge staff is excellent. They truly have the Aloha spirit. If you're booking a vacation, request the North Property which is newer (especially if you're booking a studio. The studios in South have no lanai to speak of. You can barely put your feet on the lanai, No furntiure). Also if you're a couple and want a quiter, romantic Island experience, do yourself a favor and book at the Westin Princeville in Kauai. The Westin Ka'anapali Villas are really geared to families with kids (especially the pools). The only "adult pool" is hidden at the end of the North Buildings in the shade. And speaking of pools, two (2) of the hot tubs need maintenance.. The water was hot, but the jets didn't work. I can understand 1 hot tub down, but 2? The big advantage of the Westin Ka'anapali over the Westin Princeville is the beach. You can walk from the pool to beach. Not so at the Princeville. BUT if you go to the Ka'anapali beach, bring your wallet or your own chairs & umbrellas. The Westin has outsourced the beach chair & umbrella concesssion. If you like to snorkel, go in front of the North Buildings and look for "Frank the Tank" - a giant, 75 year old sea turtle. The snorkeling is amazing. The Italian restaurant in the North building is excellent with an impressive wine list. The main restaurant in the South building is odd in that the layout has guests walking from the lobby literally through the Ocean restaurant to get to a pool, hot tub or Building 3. Also, be aware that all the bars and restaurants in the South and North Buildings close at 10 PM. Period. Aloha !

Room Tip: Book rooms in the newer North Builings especially if you're booking a 1 bedroom studios. The stu...

Green Features: They could do a better job recycling. In the villas, they have recycling. But when you go to the beach, it's "one trash can fits all". No separation of recyclables.

Absolutely perfect! We couldn't have been more pleased with our stay at The Westin Villas. Prior to staying here we were in Kihei and Waikiki. I'm so glad we saved the best for last. We had booked a studio but were upgraded to a one bedroom when we arrived, which was ENORMOUS and gorgeous. It was great to have a full kitchen and a washer and dryer. When we checked in, since we were only staying two nights, we were offered to forgo our room cleaning for one free continental breakfast. We gladly accepted and had a great breakfast the next morning! All of the staff there were super friendly and always willing to help. The only downside was the beach, I think we must've gone on a rough day on the water because it wasn't very calm out there, we opted for of the many pools or we would head down to Wailea Beach (we had some friends staying down there).
All in all, we had a great time at The Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas, we will definitely be back!

If you want to stay in Kannapali and want a resort with nice rooms, great beach and pools, manicured grounds, easy access to Whalers Village and Lahaina (via free shuttle) then stay at Westin Kannapali Ocean Resort Villas .... you will not regret it!!
All of the staff at this resort are exceptional, providing a stress free environment for our family holiday.
The resort has a Southern and Northern section, North being the newer buildings.
We stayed in the South building #3 with a partial ocean view / pool view and we loved it ... We felt it was the better choice as it provided a great atmosphere with a massive pool, welcoming lobby area, easy access to the beach and parking spaces.
The beach is good for swimming and provided us hours of great snorkelling every day.
We would definitely book this resort again when we get back to Maui.
PS ...We booked our stay through Becky at Maui Vacation Getaways. She offered us a great rate and was very helpful throughout the process. I would highly recommend booking your stay via her.

We stayed in the North Buidling in room 6540 in a 1 bedroom ocean view villa.

We arrived just after 2 pm and check in was not yet available so we went to the pool bar for a light meal. Our room was available before 4 pm. The villa was a very good size with well equipped kitchen & laundry (washer with detergent supplied when used; dryer; ironing board), very good size bathroom with bathtub and separate large shower. A queen size sofa bed accommodated our 2 kids well as did the comfortable king bed for the adults. There was also a good size balcony. The room was clean and kept very clean during our stay. The towels were fresh and like new. The only problem is sometimes we were still in our room at 9:30 am when they came and we would ask them to come back later....this meant that sometimes mid-afternoon, our room was still unmade and we would have to call for housekeeping to be done. Rooms were quiet and we could not hear our neighbours.

There is a market in the North building that has ready made salads/rolls on ground floor. You can also buy your supplies such as cereals/milk/juices, however prices in the supermarkets which are easy to get to with a car may be cheaper and you will get more variety.

We hired a car, so it was very easy to get around and also very easy to self park at USD$10/night (you can opt for valet parking for USD$12/night). They do however also provide a convenient and free shuttle service between Sheraton & Westin and one that also goes down to Front Street, Lahaina where the main shops/restaurants are. Having a car made it easy for us to drive around the island and go and eat anywhere. The italian restaurant was not open all of the nights we were there, the night we went the food was okay (the risotto was extremely salty), but nothing extraordinary.

The beach right outside the hotel was great for snorkelling/lounging around (and definitely less crowded than Black Rock, near Sheraton) and there were plenty of fish to see whilst snorkelling close to shore.

There are 2 main generous sized pools and a smaller adult pool. The main pool near the south building had a slide which the kids enjoyed. There is also a shallow pool with a pirate ship suitable for toddlers/preschoolers. There are BBQ facilities around the pool that can be used. Find a pool chair was not difficult. You can hire ones with shades.

All the staff were very friendly. We didn't attend a presentation as we heard from other people's experience what it was about and it wouldn't be relevant to us, but they do give good incentives for you turning up to their 45 minute presentation.

This is definitely the place I would be staying next time and recommending to my friends and family.

Room Tip: Ocean view room, north building, higher level floors.

We booked this resort thinking the brochures and advertisements were photo shopped. This place could not be that great. The brochures do not lie! It is picture perfect, from the front lobby to the huge bathrooms. I have requested my husband purchase the bed we slept in. I have not slept that well in years. The concierge staff went out of their way to help us with our daily schedule and found the best activities for large families. The valet service was exceptional. The pool was well maintained and the beaches were clean and safe. The cleaning staff always greeted us warmly and left our room spotless. The breakfast buffet had something for everyone. Classy and fun. We will be back to visit again.

Room Tip: do not overcrowd the room, having a bed brought in took up too much room.

It doesn't get better than this! We have stayed here 5 times as a family. The resort is kept in tip top shape and every hotel staff member geniunely tries to cater to every guests need. I recommend this resort ten-fold. It has been open for 11 years and looks like it was opened only a few months ago. The property is kept in great shape, the service is impeccable, the restaurants are great, and most of all the view of the sunset is worth its weight in gold!! We will be back next year!!
