“loved the westin!!!”
Reviewed September 15, 2008

This was my first trip to maui and i did all the research on all hotels in kaanapali. I was on a hunt for a 1 bdrm villa and found the westin. We stayed on the south tower # 3 rm 3106 view of the pool beautiful suite with a full kitchen, HUGE bathroom, double shower head. the most comfortable HEAVENLY beds.( im thinking of buying one now). Great location whalers village nearby. Free self parking and staff were all really nice.
We had 3 adults and 3 kids with us perfect for us. kids loved the pool cant count how many times they went down the slides. The people who stayed there with kids were all so friendly sharing pool toys and the people that were leaving were giving away their floaties to other kids. they had gazebos to rent by the pool which was helpful with young ones.
My friend and I went to the heavenly spa. (westin maui resort and spa) .beautiful spa with ocean view lounge area. we loved it so much we went back the next day. ( highlight of our trip)
miss it already. planning my next trip to maui and i would love to stay at this resort again.

What a huge disappointment in the Westin! Last year we stayed in a 1 BR oceanview unit, it was so beautiful we couldn't wait to return again this year. This year, it was a completely different story.

We checked in around 2pm, the room wasn't ready so we opted to go and walk around Lahaina. We called around 4, and found our room ready, so we headed right back up to the Westin

Check in was friendly, we were given a room in building 4 which is the building to the back of the property in the original, not North section. Off we go to the third floor and open the door, at first glance it seemed bright and nice, on closer inspection it looked as though it hadn't been cleaned in the last 6 months. Chocolate (or something) smeared all over the sofa and the sheer curtains in the living room, a dirty tissue under the tv stand, and the rugs were so filthy I wouldn't let my son take off his shoes.

Then I went into the Bedroom to look at the bed, the mattress pad was covered with a grainy dark red substance and had hairs all over it. Just gross.

My call to the front desk didn't produce another room, so I went down in person and told the nice gentleman at the front desk that I was not going to stay in that room. At this price point (479.00 per nt plus taxes) I would expect a higher level of cleanliness. After waiting for more than 40 minutes, he was able to accommodate us in another room within the same building. Still didn't think it was super clean, but a huge improvement over the first.

What a shame that the Westin management has let this property slide. I know many of the other reviews are good, but it seems as if many of them were accommodated on the North side.

We are just puzzled and sad that our two experiences could be so far apart.

just got back for amazing week... excellent one bedroom villa with wash and dry and a full kitchen... very helpfull... very clean resort excellent concierge and room cleaning service in buliding 2. carlos is the best..
i booked ocean view villa with expedia... do not fool yourself.. unless u r in the ocean front room ocean view does not exist.. it is very partial and limited ocean view.. depend on the floor and the location... u most likely will see the pool and the garden and a bit of ocean... they should be more clear upon booking.
only little complian i have is the front desk people can be a little nicer.. in few ocasion i used them they are very dry and will not go out of their way to help... will be nice if they will crack a liitle smile.. and will be on a positive note...
bell boys were very nice and great specially rob..
this resort is perfect for famalies with kids very convinient... for couples gateaway vacation i will go to the other westin.. i had a chance to visit... excellent.

We booked our 5 night stay through a pre-paid American Express package for $650 including all taxes and fees, plus $185 off our weekly Avis car rental (only had to pay $46 in taxes/fees for the Pontiac G6) and a $100 resort credit. In exchange for this, we had to go to a 90 minute timeshare presentation, but it was actually quite pleasant and took less than 90 minutes. The guy who gave us the tour seemed a little high (eyes were bloodshot, no Westin card to give us access anywhere, didn't know where the game room was) but this made it a lot easier for us to say no (which we were going to do anyway), so we didn't mind. Of course the sales manager came in at the end to try and sell us one more time but we said no again and that was that, definitely worth saving $1500+ off the regular room price. Oh, since it was a special occasion, they upgraded us to an ocean view (not so close but could still see the ocean) studio. It came with a couch, flat screen tv, microwave, washer/dryer, Westin heavenly bed, bubble tub, etc. It was a beautiful new room in the North wing. The pools were nice, not over the top like the other Westin property but perfect for swimming, water basketball and volleyball. They had 2 tennis courts outside if you wanted to play, and 2 nice general stores with a lot of different things to buy at reasonable-for-resort prices. There was snorkeling right off the property, and a shuttle available if you wanted to go to the Sheraton or Westin for a drink or food or to shop or snorkel there. All in all I would definitely go back if the price is right, though I can't see paying $400-$500 for an island-view studio per night, but for our price, it was great. Feel free to email me with any questions.

Can't imagine anyone not LOVING KOR! Everything was fantastic (rooms, beach, pools, service, property)... here's some stuff I didn't see/know when I was doing my research:

- Bring/buy laundry detergent, dryer sheets, dishwasher tabs, coffee filters (they give you 1/each). You get paper towels, TP, trash bags, a small liquid dish soap, kitchen sponge & toiletries in bathroom. Pack zip bags & foil (fold flat).

- Shuttles are GREAT! Shuttle 1 is inner-property- KOR, Sheraton/Blackrock, Westin hotel/Whalers Village. Runs nonstop, every 15 min. Shuttle 2 goes to the three properties, then Lahaina Cannery, Kobe Steakhouse, Hilo Hatties. Leaves KOR at :05. Loops 1x/hr. Both run 9am-10:30pm. We took shuttle #2 to Lahaina at 4:05 for shopping/dinner, then cabbed it back (heard it gets VERY crowded in evening). Cab 1 way was $20.

- The general store was really overpriced. Star Mkt. is 5 min up the road, no crowds (Sat. 1pm), good selection, no club card req., better prices. The Farmers Mkt. (store) a bit further up from Star is really more a health food store.

-You can use shuttle for Safeway @ The Cannery, but plan around the bus schedule or you could be waiting a long time. ABC store at Whalers Village also has most grocery essentials, good prices & better shuttle schedule.

-The new spa is excellent- eucalyptus steam, pineapple water, Tazo teas. Did Lomi-Lomi massage- aaahhh!

- The Property activities & entertainment are very good (some have a nominal fee). Vacation kick-off party & Concierge call to pickup a free gift = timeshare promotion recruit. Skip 'em if you don't want a tour. Were never approached or bugged otherwise

- The kitchen is VERY well equipped. N. property doesn't have a full oven, only stovetop and overhead convection oven/microwave (which was very hard to bake in!). Grills get very crowded, but really good quality/hot! 6 grill areas between both properties (a couple at each spot, along w/ picnic tables, umbrellas).

- Bathroom is HUGE! Whirlpool & heavenly shower- to DIE FOR!

-Both properties have a lending library (books/mags) at Concierge (S- in lobby, N- on 1st floor, just outside the elevator).

-Both properties are laid out well, easy to get to/around, gorgeous, and you get access to everything at either. Biggest difference betw. the two:
*SOUTH property STUDIO doesn't have a porch/lanai (it's more a glass sliding door to a Juliet perch)
*South 1 BR & North Studio- small porch, 2 chairs/cocktail table
*North 1 BR- large porch w/ 4 chairs, cocktail table & dining table (this is what we had, ate all meals outside)

- Hot tubs are used by kids despite 16+ signs, but were well behaved when we were there. The resort is almost all families, so not alot of partying.

- Cliffdiving ceremony @ Sheraton- we expected a "show", but it was really just some local kids and a few drunk tourists. And there's people "diving" all day long. Don't make a special trip.

- UFO parasail (@ Whalers Village beach) was AWESOME- use A3H card for discount. Take the shuttle, and do 800'!

- If you do surfing lessons (we loved Goofyfoot; but there are four schools at Lahaina Breakwall), I highly recommend the 8 am session (4/class). It got much more crowded later in the morning. But you'll have to take a car. It's far from the furthest shuttle stop (and shuttle doesn't start until 9am).

- David Pau Lahaina Grill was the best meal I have ever eaten~ 15 yrs. "Best Restaurant on Maui" award.

Hope that helps make your great vaca even more wonderful! You'll love it!!!!!

We stayed here 8/22-8/29/08. We had visited last year for the timeshare and knew we 'd want to stay here .. WE almost bought but then decided not too.

but we traveled for our wedding w/ our family my fiance's two kids 5 and 8, our son of 6 mths old and the two grammas. WE got a great deal on the 2 bdrm villa..

First let me say the property is gorgeous exactly how it was last year. plenty of pools ,plenty of space not overcrowded except the Pool with the slides was hard to find a shaded area upfront.. we spent most of our time on the north pool and or beach

it was hard to do the beach everyday but the beach location is great too. Last year we stayed at the Sheraton and love that beach and location too , the beach is a tiny bit of a walk but not that bad.

We got there around 2 or so and they said no rooms were yet available check in is not til 4.. kind of late, one of our complaints and we didn't get a room until 4 no earlier.. then we got a room int he North side which was fine the room is gorgeous as others have explained , plenty of room.. but our complaints: we were very far to the north end w/ 3 kids two grammas that meant for alot of walking to and from the pool, to the cars and elevators our room was like the last on the 3 hallways away from the elevator. we asked if we coud be moved NO she said.. so ok we sucked it up and got used to it and found our way around I don't mind the walking but when you have a baby in tow and two grammas you want to make it easy..

The other complaint was the parking. the spaces very small, all virtually all compact so you have to squeeze your car or our VAN we had into these small spaces w/ making it hard to load/unload everyone. We suggest they make larger spots for those larger vehicles that most people have.

The other complaint was the service on our safe. Our safe was broken on the 1 bdrm side they came right away and they couldn't fix it but said they'd be back. the whole week went by and noone returned to fix it. fortunately we had the other room/studio and used that safe..

The pool service there- was NO food or drink service would have been nice and i think for them it would totally drum up buisness for them. we would have loved to order a cocktail by the pool or some lunch w/out getting up ..

Also more shaded areas needed by the pool w/ the slide.. not many areas and the pool was always packed.
Other than that service was great. everyone was friendly at the hotels from our maid service, the concierge the activities desk etc.. the restaurants are nice even tho we only had lunch at the pool bar and wasn't bad at all.. the grounds are amazing. the villa comes w/ everything you need. we even got a nice rollaway crib for the baby etc.. we shopped when we first got there and did all our breakfasts and most of our lunches in the room so made it very nice and the kids had there own area/bed and tv so helpe dout and a huge bathroom on both sides.

by far the greatest to travel w/ Kids . we didn't use the new spa or the shuttle just not enough time. maybe next time. we'd definitely go back as it had all the amenities of a hotel but a huge condo that works w/ kids .

also they have some great grills /bbqing area and lots of people us ing them.. next year for sure i want to do that a few times and just cook out and relax!!!

again we loved it here just w/ the few minor complaints all in all a great stay..
