“Great Anniversary Trip!”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

We spent over a week at the Westin KORV (North) and enjoyed our entire stay. Our first night was in a studio (as our one-bedroom villa was not available – we had decided to come a few days early and was only able to book the studio), which was actually a very well-appointed room in Bldg 7. Our room faced the Molokai Lawn and river pool, the quietest of all the pools other than the adult pool between Bldgs 7 and 8. A couple of days later, our move to the one-bedroom suite was seamless: We merely checked out, had the hotel store our luggage while we were out for a day of adventure, and when we checked in for our “new” room, where we’d stay for the rest of our vacation, our bags were sent up soon after we entered.

The staff throughout the property were excellent. Everyone, and I mean everyone, no matter what time of day (and I wake up at 3:00am to hit the gym so I ran into staff in the wee hours), was courteous, friendly, and always offering to help. Speaking of the gym, I used the fitness center on the north side. Loved it. It was never busy (I usually went in the morning and tried the afternoon a couple of times). The spacious workout room provided towels, water, headphones, great music, personal TVs on the equipment, etc. That fitness center was close to Spa Helani, which I reviewed in a separate entry on TA.

Our one-bedroom villa still in Bldg 7 but had a view of the north – wide, green space with the ocean to the west. I was really happy with the amenities in our room – we were set for our vacation (we hit Costco for food and other items) – as the kitchen had everything we needed. We even did a couple of loads of laundry. Anyway, I doubt I can add more than other reviewers about what the premium villas offer. For us, it was a nice, spacious, clean and very comfortable “home base” for our anniversary trip.

We couldn’t understand the people who staked out lounge chairs at the pool and appeared to stay there all day. We’re in Hawaii, folks! But we did take it easy one afternoon after back-to-back activities and ordered food by the beach pool (food from Pailolo). We rather enjoyed our snack, but there was something weird about reclining by the pool and stuffing our faces with hamburgers and nachos – ha! We did go back to Pailolo during happy hour and tried more of their offerings – great service, good food. We also tried Ocean Bar & Grill on the south side – same type of food with live music (this was daytime, so it was nice to be in a quieter area while Pailolo was packed with sports fans).

We’ll definitely return to Westin-KORV North. We had such a great time in general in Hawaii, but it was made better by the fact that we had a really nice and comfortable place to stay. I’ve tried all types of lodging when I visit the Islands, and staying at the Westin was up there for comfort, great service, and ideal location. Seriously, no complaints at all during our trip. I hope we can get back to Maui soon!

We are Starwood Vac Owners and this was our 3rd time back for spring break. We have an island view, 2BR/2BA lock off unit and it's kind of a misnomer because we've always gotten a great view of the ocean. While we would have preferred a ground unit as we have 2 young kids, no biggie. We were in Bldg 7 this time facing the pool and ocean -- 6th floor so no noise.

First - THANKS should always go to the people who really make the stay enjoyable - housekeepers work their tails off and are pleasant, cheerful and take great care of the units. As SVOs - we got a mid week clean up and change of sheets/towels and they've always done a great and thorough job. Second - the bellhops and valet team. Tosh, Lincoln to name a few are top notch and great sources of information on local restaurants etc if you want to avoid the crowds. Always cheerful and they memorize your names, greet your kids asking how their day is going etc. THe units after all these years are in really good condition, no real wear or tear showing yet. The beds are comfortable, plenty of room all around so no one feels like they're crawling over each other -- the middle living room / full kitchen make a great hanging out place and the patios (lanais) for both rooms are nice places to have coffee/b'fast and enjoy the view, peace and quiet. We own every other year intervals but are looking at picking up another year as we go back every year anyway and stay at other locations. Pools are nice and clean, kids always enjoyed the jacuzzi and for those with younger kids - the pirate ship pool is a nice place to hang out.

Room Tip: No real "bad room" on the property --- bldgs 6-8 get nice afternoon sun, 4-5 are nice as w...

This was our second stay as starwood owners and it was as wonderful as we remembered. We stayed in the north section this time and the rooms were beautiful, clean and spacious. We love having the full kitchen as well as the washer and dryer. The grounds are beautiful as well as the pools. Everything you will need is right on property and the shuttle into Lahina is a really nice option if you haven't rented a car or want to have a few drinks. We had a two bedroom lockoff with a partial ocean view.

There are only two things we didn't like about this property. The first is that a two bedroom suite is actually a deluxe one bedroom and a regular one bedroom unit with a connecting door. This leaves you with two king size beds and two pull-out couches. Most of the starwood properties have two bedroom units that actually have two bedrooms, one with a king size bed and the other with either two doubles or two queens. We travel with two teenage sons so this way there is no fighting over who sleeps on the pull-out. The other problem is that there just doesn't seem to be enough parking, especially if you are at the north building. Most evenings we would have to park at the far end of the south building's parking lot. Just seemed to be a large volume of "compact car only" spaces.

Would we stay again, of course. We had a fantastic trip and can't wait to return!

We are Starwood Vacation Owner's at the Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort (North Tower). We have been coming here since 2005. Check-in was a breeze and were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to an ocean front villa.

Our one week stay has been fabulous. The grounds and villas are immaculate. All of this talk about the resort being a bit worn could not be further from the truth. As an owner, that is the first thing I look for on each and every visit and just don't see what other reviewers are talking about. This is as clean and first class resort I have been to. So much so, my wife and I purchased another week of ownership.

The staff are as friendly as the days are long. Oh yea, did I mention that the resort is located with steps of one of the best beaches in the world?

We look forward to our return to the Westin Ocean Resort Villas and the wonderful island of Maui!

This was our second stay as owners and we love it here! We had a beautiful view and could watch whales breaching from our lanai. Love the pool area, the excellent snorkeling and beach right at the property. We enjoy long walks on the boardwalk all along the beach and beautiful sunsets from the property. The units are very comfortable and spacious. It has beautiful bathrooms and kitchen along with a washer/dryer. The shuttle service to Whaler's Village and Lahaina is a wonderful service! All the employees we encountered were both friendly and professional. We are very happy we made this purchase. Our parents were our guest on this visit and we look forward to our ability to have our children also experience this beautiful facility and island with us too!

First off, it's not that bad, after all, you are in Maui. But, here's why there are better options in our thinking.

-It's not really on Kaanapali Beach, as it is about a 1/4 mile north of Black Rock. Even though they have a shuttle to to Kaanapali and Lahaina, being on K. Beach and near Whaler's Village is way better and there are several options there [hotels; Hyatt, Westin, Sheraton: timeshares; Marriott, Hyatt, etc.]. The shuttle can be VERY crowded. Their own beach is small, not good for kids and doesn't compare with K. Beach!

- The venue is very, very large, with long, meandering, institutional-like halls/corridors, and neither indoors or outdoors is particularly pretty or well done, looks like a large apt. complex [The individual timeshare units are large and nice, though]. Lots of kids everywhere, lots of noise and few, uncomfortable chaises near the pools [you have to pay for a chaise/chair on the beach!].

-Its quite windy, all the time, according to staff, because of its situation near the winds coming down from the mountains. As windy or worse than Kapalua.

-the on-site restaurants are mediocre at best, including their high-end Italian one. Much better choices at Whaler's Village and Lahaina.

Would we stay again.......no. But if you got one of their relatively cheap, timeshare preview pkgs or Westin pkgs [ours was 5 nts, rental car, and $75 credit for $799], you might consider it. Timeshare purchase prices are unbelievably high compare to the competition.

Room Tip: Do everything you can to get an ocean view.
