“The Help From One Man Made a Difference!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2014

We have been coming to the Westin Kaanapali annually for 10 years. This year, our 3 young grandchildren were joining us. We were concerned about the location of our room so we spoke to the Manager who took the time to listen and to understand what we needed. Jerred Recker did everything he could and he was able to give us a PERFECT suite!! This act of kindness truly made a difference to our holiday!

We were also very grateful for the help from Rachel at the Concierge. She recognized our needs and she was able to ensure we had everything we needed to maximize the enjoyment of our holiday.

We live in a fast paced world where helping others is often forgotten. It is so nice to know that when we travel to the Westin Kaanapali, we know there are people there who understand what simple acts of kindness can do to ensure a perfect family holiday!

The decision for this hotel was driven by the section of the beach,
When you face the ocean go to the left end of the complex, the beach makes a little bend, here is the surf and are the waves the greatest, it is fun so swim there.
For the room categories you must understand the American smartness of wordings and definitions for hotel rooms.
For partial ocean view you must stretch your neck out of the balcony, bend your head to the left and you can see a Little glimpse of blue of the ocean.
The Hotel itself is of oldfashioned architecture in concrete.
The pool area is nice.
The beach is great, the beach Lounge chairs are expensive and they take them away before sunset, so you pay for the entire day but you cannot watch the sunset from your chair.
The Food is good, however I recommend better drive into town.

Room Tip: If you can afford take a front ocean view room or at least an ocean view room

When you go somewhere for the first time, you tend to get caught up in the moment. You are lost in the beauty and you overlook things that might typically bother you otherwise. This is how we were at Westin KOR. We just came back form our second trip and , all I can say is what a let down. While this resort is still beautiful, I do not get the feeling that anyone here truly values you as a guest. We felt like the goal is to turn you over. Get ready for the next set of guests. You will notice that everyone smiles, but to me that is a front. That is required of the job. I am very disappointed. I know everyone wants specific details: well there are many aspects of this trip that did not sit well with us from having to change rooms for two days, to charging us $6 for a mini ramekin of jalapeno peppers and a few slivers of onions, to the nonchalant attitude to get us in a new room as quickly as possible. You see, they know that right after you, there are new guests. They do not have to truly care. They just have to make you think they do.

Room Tip: You will want a one bedroom villa, especially if you bring a lot of luggage. Take the island view a...

- location: if you plan on touring the island, consider other options; felt remote from the majority of what Maui has to offer and added between 40-55 mins to most of the trips we took on the island (Maui winery, Hana, Oheo Gulch, and Haleakala crater); if you plan on staying in Lahaina area, this is a good option
- beach: narrow, gets deep within 2-3 meters starting with sharp coral, seas were rough and not for little kids or those who feel uncomfortable with waves
- property: it is a vacation ownership property, lacks diversity, and thus felt a bit dull (unlike Naples FL which is similarly a 50+ active adult community that parties all night long); our ocean front 2 bedroom with a large living room had a direct ocean view (rooms 5508/5507) on the 5th floor; unfortunately, grill / bar restaurant downstairs creates too much smoke from the grill and kept our windows / sliding doors to the balconies mostly closed except for early mornings before they open their doors for luck through dinner (undoubtedly a huge flaw for the property)
- food: we took advantage of grills scattered around the property and cooked great local produce and fresh fish; one night went to Ocean restaurant in the older part of Westin resort for unlimited crab legs feast (was just OK)
- rooms: predictably Westin, cookie cutter finishings (as many other Westins), fully equipped kitchen, drab but with nice finishes bathrooms; cleaning service was performed only once or twice from Fri to Fri (not enough)
- service: nothing to speak of - did not need much from staff that seemed helpful when we rented activities sports equipment or needed extra toiletries or coffee
Feel free to reach out with questions or let me know if this is helpful in your decision making process ;-)

Room Tip: ocean front rooms where 5507 / 5508 are located will experience smoke from the grill downstairs...

First visit to Hawaii! Maui is very impressive, liked it a lot. Resort was pretty good. As Starwood Gold Member, I often stay at Westins. This is not the best one, but certainly not the worst. Good location, nice beach and resort amenities were quite adequate. Rooms (or what they call villas) are good, a little dated perhaps, and the fact that we were on the first floor without balcony, and with small patio didn't help. Bathroom, shower, and beds are all on a better side. Service was helpful, our concierge Akesa is very nice and pleasant. Enjoyed talking to her, and getting advice. I wish of course there is no push to attend timeshares presentation, but since we arrived on this "package", it was expected. We declined all attempts to lose few hours of our 5 days vacation. I would recommend the stay here, if on a good package and the price is right. Otherwise, it is very expensive.

Wow it was my husband and I honeymoon and from the time we checked in it was a nightmare. When we arrived and checked in we went up to our room and found out it was not what we paid for. We immediately went back down to the front desk and they stated that they would call us and upgrade our room to what it was originally was booked for. The next day they never called us so we called and asked about our rooms on to find out that we were suppose to have checked out at 10 the wait for our room to be ready at 4pm. Mind you we were in the middle of the road to Hana. We get back the manager had given us a credit of $100 for the inconvenience only to find out during check out that we had been moved out of the system. Also the staff is horrible. We asked for directions to a restaurant on property and the directions that was given was wrong. Please never stay at the place. An island view is considered there parking lot. Your probably recieved better service at Best Western. Also if you book a package that starlet your eligible for check out at 2pm don't book. They just kick you out because the "owners" are coming. Worst vacation every. I had such high hopes for this place and was daily disappointed.

These villas are top of the line timeshares in a great location. The rooms are great and the reef right out in front of the resort is very good.
The bellman service of Jason and Tosh were fantastic, helping us with all our needs.
