“Worth giving up St. John for one year!”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

We are Westin timeshare owners in St. John and do not easily give up the chance to go there. However, we wanted to go to Hawaii before our oldest started college. We went this summer and had two studios (our daughter came too) with amazing views of that wonderful sunset. Beautiful pool and beach (though we did not spend that much time on the property). We were constantly on the move. We received great advice from the concierges about trips and restaurants. Can't wait to go back.

We return here every other year with our kids for family vacation. It is a kids paradise and the perfect place for a family vacation!
From the multiple pools, water slides and baby pools…to the pool deck service, sports bars , restaurants and more. We are always happy here. The ability to have a kitchen with kids, and a large living area is a bonus…and the ground floor is so perfect with kids.
The pool staff is amazing as well! Brandon at the pool desk along with the others that worked with him over our trip were very helpful and attentive. As well as Royce who was in charge of snuba! We couldn't get our son out of the pool every morning at 11 as he had to be in there snuba-ing.
Pulehu is the italian restaurant on site, and it is very good food. and the service is remarkable. from manager Mark to our amazing servers...Cant wait to return!

Room Tip: the newer side of the resort is much nicer and a little quieter than the other . the rooms are newly...

Location, location, location!! This resort is on a wonderful beach.. Snorkeling, a boardwalk, whales seen from the beach. Resorts is very good. Great to have the shuttle service to Lahaina and other Starwood hotels. The studio we stayed in was good.. Well appointed kitchen. The only complaint I have is the studio does not have an outside patio area with chairs. Also, the pools in the south towers area were RIDICULOUSLY cold. Charging people chairs and umbellas to use on the beach .. $10.00 a chair and $24.00 for an umbrella was a rip off, especially for Starwood owners. Despite, we will return to this resort in the future.

We booked a room by calling Starwood Hotels. When we arrived, we were not given the room we paid for. The staff told us those rooms were only available to timeshare owners. We received an inferior room and were not compensated for the difference in price we paid.

On top of that, there was fire alarm testing & bug spraying going on while we were at the hotel, and there was NO NOTICE given.

The air conditioning went out for 2 days before they fixed it in our room.

We were on our honeymoon/anniversary (didn't have a proper one after getting married so we had this one for our first anniv) and brought our 7 month old daughter.

Worse experience EVER at a hotel. They did not offer to do anything. They just blamed me. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There are better hotels on the island at cheaper prices.

If you have any problems with this hotel, the staff won't help you. Be warned.

Room Tip: When we booked, we were confirmed for an ocean front room, but they won't give you an ocean fron...

This is our second time back and our third will be for two weeks as one week is not long enough! We had 6 in our party and booked a 1 bedroom and a studio. This was our Christmas Gift to our adult kids (ages 20 to 26). They had the 1 bedroom and my wife and I stayed in the studio. The Ocean View was really just a peek at the ocean but still a nice view. We did not spend a ton of time in our rooms but the rooms were very very nice. Being able to cook in the units helps make the place more affordable.

Check in was pleasant (maybe 10 minutes). The resort itself is gorgeous, most of the staff (not all) extremely friendly and helpful. We purchased groceries at Costco and the staff was very excited to bring them to our rooms and thanked us for the job security (kid was funny in a good way). We did take advantage of the BBQ Grills (Steak, Salmon & Hamburgers).

The food and drinks were reasonable (drink of the day $6). Monday's Cowboy All You Can Eat was great and Wednesday's Crab Feast was even better. Our favorite was the Pailolo Bar and Grill ($10 pitchers of beer during the games). We ended up watching the Broncos next to a few Charger fans and had a blast with them. The food was NEVER disappointing and most of the staff were awesome, we had 2 cranky servers and avoided them both the rest of the week.

Seemed like they really beefed up the security as they were ever present (even in the parking garage), they even made my son turn his inappropriate shirt inside out and the officer was very polite about it. Made us feel better about leaving stuff at the pool while going to the ocean.

The snorkeling and whale watching right in front of the resort was AWESOME. We saw lots of fish and a few turtles.

I am happy they do police people leaving their towels to reserve chairs but they can also be a little over zealous. One time we went to the bar as a group for about 30 minutes and we had a notice left on our stuff which was not a huge deal but irritating as there we plenty of chairs and ours were not PRIME spots. A couple from Texas we got to know left for 20 minutes and we had to stop the towel police (guys in the yellow shirts) from tagging their chairs. Also they could do with a few less chairs and a few more small tables would be nice (just a suggestion).

The kids who schlep your luggage and bring your food to the room FANTASTIC. Kids who set up the chairs at the beach FANTASTIC. Girls (and one gentleman as well) who serve drinks at the pool FANTASTIC. Most of the servers at the Pailolo Bar FANTASTIC. The bartender who looks like he should be in GQ magazine FANTASTIC. The security officers FANTASTIC (made us feel a bit safer) and a pleasant crew as well. Concierge FANTASTIC.

Can't wait for our next trip back! Mahalo to my friends at The Westin Kaanapali!

My husband, son and I stayed at the Westin in April 2013. This was our very first trip to Hawaii so we really did not know what to expect at all. As soon as we arrived to the hotel, I knew we had made the right choice! It was beautiful! We stayed in a studio suite with a queen bed and pull out couch. It had a kitchenette (stove, microwave, fridge), washer/dryer and a huge bathroom! The We stayed in room 2127 on the first level and were very surprised at the view! It was great!

My son, who is 5, loved the pool and waterside! The nice part about the set up of some of the chairs is that you can see the pool/waterslide so no worries about your kids. You can sit back, relax and watch from your lounger. They also have drink/food service around the pool that you can pay right away or charge to your room.

The one thing I wished we would have done a little better is getting some more groceries before heading to the hotel. We did stop at the Safeway to grab a few things but it was quite busy in there and we were so excited just to get to the hotel. For us, we do enjoy going out to eat, especially on vacation. If we had put more thought into it, we would have made a list of easy breakfast/lunch stuff to have on hand. Our room was pretty close to pool and beach so it would have been easy to just run and grab something and bring it down. There were also bbq's that were available for use by anyone that wanted to use them.

Would definitely stay here again!

The front desk clerk mentioned that we had a garden view. He also informed us that there would be a $10/day parking fee which I was unaware of. We checked into our room and it was a view of the parking lot. There was a small strip of plants in between our room and the street. I guess that was our garden view. The room was nice but it smelled chemically. We had to phone housekeeping for new bed linens. We found dried blood on one of the bed sheets and hair on the sofa sheets. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and pots. The moldings that touched the ground in the bathroom area were all warped. I think they had water problems in that room at one time. Our next door neighbors were having a party. We finally had to call security at 11 PM to quiet them down. Security was prompt. The pools were average and crowded. The hotel is next to a park and on the ocean front. Overall, the villas were over priced for what you get.
