We stayed for a week in July 2013. Unit 306. Great. Two bedrooms. Dual level. Quiet. Ocean 60 feet away. Best views. Grounds are wonderful. Sandy beach in front and directly north as well. Many turtles close by. In fact, they will run you over in the water. Watch out! :) Low density, old Hawaii feel. I have stayed at Maui Kai and Mahana. They are great as well. Kulakane has a more relaxed vibe.

Unit 306 was clean and well stocked. Will stay here again. I cannot think of a single negative. The resident manager, Willie, is great as is John Kevan, the manager of the unit.

Hesitant to file this as I do not want this unit booked when I visit the next time. A great, relaxing stay.

Room Tip: OOpps. No room service.

We stayed in unit 102 and I cannot express the true beauty this complex offers. The grounds are meticulously maintained, The beach and snorkeling are right in front of the resort. The Pu Pu Party’s are a blast. My son woke every morning to go swim with the turtles as they swam in front of the resort. The people are friendly and it is like you are home. Comparing the stories with the daily activities everyone did that day made this like a huge family vacation. We stayed two weeks and to tell you the truth we almost did not return to Chicago. The resort might not have the amenities the larger resorts do but it has a very family, warm cozy feeling that is just the Aloha spirit. Clean modern updated units and a 20 yard walk to the ocean make this perfect. We cannot wait to get back.

Room Tip: I would stay on the 2nd or third floor so the trade winds are stronger.

Great condo (Unit 302) and offered the best turtle sightings on the Island and sunset views! The location is fabulous: close to Lahaina town and other great areas but also less commercial, more quite area! The condo was well equipped and very comfortable. The farmer's market was a great place to buy groceries and prepared food. One of our daughter's is a vegan and the farmer's market had all the products she needed and more. We were able to see turtles every day from the Lanai and in the beach in front of the condo. Some evenings, the turtles would rest on the sand and spend the night. The snorkeling at the beach in front of the condo was also great and we were able to swim and snorkel with turtles. We recommend "Star Noodle Restaurant in Lahaina. Also recommend Napili beach for great swimming and body surfing, and Sea House Restaurant at the same beach for breakfast or lunch. It was an amazing vacation and we can't wait to return!!! David (condo owner) and Debbie (property manager) were wonderful to work with.

Room Tip: Rooms were very comfortable. If you are a light sleeper there is a neighborhood rooster that will c...

We are so glad you had a wonderful time! We love the views and our neighborhood turtles, also. The neighborhood roosters are part of life throughout the Hawaiian islands and they do have a certain charm! Mahalo for staying with us and we hope to see you back again!

North Kaanapali - could walk to everything we needed and a really short drive to Lahaina for anything else. Everything in 202 was brand new and top quality. Very comfortable and tastefully decorated unit, and greatly appreciated the snorkeling gear, boogie board, and beach chairs that were included with the rental. The views of Molokai and Lanai were breathtaking, and the snorkeling right in front of the building was some of the best I've seen anywhere on Maui. Amazing amount of turtles, but we knew that from just sitting on the very comfortable lanai. Great beaches to either side of the unit. Highly recommend for couples or families with small children.

Room Tip: All the units are only 30 feet to the ocean, but the second floor gives you an even better view with...

Mahalo for staying with us! Glad you enjoyed the great location. The turtles always make their appearance right in front of the property. All of our units are equipped with beach gear so you just bring your swimsuit and the aloha spirit. Hope we see you back at the Kulakane soon!

My friend and I looked at a lot of condos online and called several places before we agreed on the Kulakane. It had everything we wanted - 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a lanai facing the ocean, walking distance to a farmers' market/vegan/vegetarian food place (that was key for me), parking, wifi, complimentary beach towels/beach chairs/beach bags (it's great not to have to rent these each day and not to have to bring your own beach towel with you from home). The condo itself was lovely. We stayed in unit 308 on the top floor (another requirement of mine). It was very nicely furnished, had all the kitchen supplies we needed to make many meals and was very, very clean (I am a stickler for cleanliness!). We cannot say enough about the gorgeous sound of the ocean 24 x 7. While the bedrooms do not face the ocean (they are in the back of the units) you cannot miss the sound of the ocean waves crashing against the sea wall. The ocean lulled us to sleep each night and greeted us each morning. You can easily swim right at the condo - you just have to walk to either the left or right and swim past the first set of low rocks and you have to be mindful of the tides and if there are storms. We were there 5.19 - 5.24 during the tail end of a storm so we couldn't go out the first few days in front of the condo. And, you will see dozens of honu (huge sea turtles). They feed right in front of the condo and are there every single day. Dozens of them. It was amazing watching them from our lanai and also from the beach. Note that they are protected and if you even think of getting too close to them you could be fined $10,000 so just watch them from a distance and enjoy how they play in the water and swim. You can easily walk 4 minutes or less to Honokowai beach park - it's protected and kids can swim there as well. The only down side was the shower water pressure - it was very poor but we both lived with it. Several folks have commented about the roosters, garbage trucks and dogs. We weren't bothered by them at all. I was up by 6am or earlier each morning (who goes to Hawaii to sleep???) :-) I loved the short walk to the farmers market (M/W/F from 7am - 11am). The store is open every day from 7am - 7pm and sells the same things that the farmers sell. I ate there every day and my friend enjoyed a smoothie. We both loved the freshly cracked coconuts which were around $4. We also both loved Honu steak and seafood - it had excellent vegan/vegetarian food as well as all the seafood stuff my friend ate. All in all, we loved staying in Honokowai - it's only a 5 minute drive from the touristy madness of Lahaina - we were soooo glad we did not stay in downtown Lahaina!!

Room Tip: I like top floor units. Note that there is no elevator/lift so if you have a lot of luggage, kids o...

So glad to hear you had a great trip, and mahalo for the great review! Thanks for confirming that we are indeed oceanfront - it would be impossible to be closer to the water. Our neighborhood honu (turtles) are always there to greet our guests! We hope to see you back at the Kulakane very soon.

We loved the Kulakane Condos. 42 units make it a quite place to hang out. The people are great, especially Debbie and Kathy who work in the office. We will come back but will stay in a different unit. We were in #303 and even though it was nice and comfortable, the lanai furniture was impossible to sit on without hurting your back. I mean, what's the point of enjoying the view from the lanai if one has to stand all the time. Also, when the ceiling fan is running in the downstairs bedroom it makes a vibrating noise that can be annoying in the master bedroom. Anyway...this place is a real jewel.

Room Tip: If you like access to pool and beach book a room on ground level. The 2 bedrooms are on the 3rd floo...

Mahalo for your review! So glad you had a great time and will be coming back. We think Debbie and Kathy are the best, too!!

We appreciate the feedback regarding the furniture and fan noise; we need our guests to let us know about these things so we can fix them. Our owners take a lot of pride in these vacation homes and we want them to be great!!

Thank you again and we hope to see you soon!!

The Kulakane is a 70's era condo that sits right on the water. The newer resorts on Maui are not close to the water. The rooms of these newer resorts are even further back. Not the Kulakane. You could toss a dried palm frond from your lanai and hit the water from any room. A little dated but very clean and very well maintained property. This is really a gem in Maui. You can walk to breakfast, stores etc. Beach is not perfect here but seeing turtles every day at the sea wall is a great experience as are the sunsets and the blowing of the conch shells. Debbie, the manager is very helpful and helped me with some printing issues. She is terrific. I would highly recommend this to any couple are small family.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the two "double wide rooms" (#209) and had an expansive view of the oc...

Mahalo for the review and visiting with us!! One of the most frequent questions we hear is from potential guests wondering how close we REALLY are to the ocean. Your review can't make it more clear - each unit is right on the ocean! That's one of the things that makes it so special. We hope to see you back soon!!
